Mautz and Mathews could help us year. After Dobbins, of course.

Looking over the Peoria box score i see that both teams struck out 21 times, 42 total. This is beyond ridiculous. It has to be a record.

Another underrated part of the game is base running. I’ll veer off Edmonds on this as he was average. But Pujols, Walker, Rolen, and Molina were exceptional. Those players made more out of their lack of speed with high baseball IQ.

Edmonds was a great fielder, and IMO that should put him over the top in making the Hall. His batting was much better than Jones’. Edmonds and Ozzie are the 2 greatest fielders I ever saw. Also on a fielding note Omar Vizquel should be in as well. He as great fielder, and IMO ann average bat, but he played many years, which should also be factored in.

Another interesting move could be to promote Molina and release Zimmerman. Unless Henderson is actually coming back in July. Molina has been really good.

I keep seeing Thompson and Henderson’s rehab return dates pushed back. Now July 1st. I really thought Henderson might help the big club this year. And Thompson help the left side of the bullpen.

This Rojas is another interesting catching prospect. He is putting up good numbers for our DSL team.

While it’s not likely they’d be taken, both Jesus Baez and Cho will be Rule 5 eligible this fall. I’d imagine they’d both play in the AFL.

I’ve never been concerned with Wetherholt and his hitting. Handling the lead off spot I thought would be a challenge. But he’s been very good at that. And has played exceptional defense, damn near gold glove worthy. I think he made 2 errors early in the year, and hasn’t made any since.

If they would consider adding anyone else to the 40 man roster, who be on the chopping block? I see players with some value, like Prieto. He is pretty far down on the depth chart though. So barring injuries or trades, this may be our 40 man roster. I am thinking Baez is the starting left fielder by the trade deadline because Baez doesn’t have to be added. Now adding Gastelum or Mathews would be trickier again unless there is a trade. And we have Dobbins and Mautz on the 40 man roster

I didn’t t realize how good Padilla numbers are. He has hit well, stolen 46 bases in just 76 games. He doesn’t strike out much. I am going to bump him up to my top 10. With Rodriguez, Luna, Hernandez, and Dos Santos they represent a strong international group. It’s by far the best group I can remember.

I didn’t think Memphis had half seasons. Is that something new this year?

Cana struck out 11 in 5 innings for our DSL team. I have been intrigued by his numbers. I was a bit surprised he did come stateside this year. He is 18.

I agree about Chase Davis. But on the other hand I think Mitchell has some traits I like. Considering he was in high school last year and is on a full season team this year he has done pretty well. He has 6 homers, so there is some pop in his bat. Does he have a lot to work on, yes. Like any drafted prepster you have to give them more time.

Cana had 11 Ks in 5 innings for our DSL team. Player of the day? Also, I’d like to spotlight 2 players.

    1) Campos, who I’d catching for Springfield along with Rodriguez. Campos hasn’t got much attention due to the logjam the Cards catching prospects. He’s hitting .287 with 7 homers and 39 rbis.

    2) Mitchel, last years 2nd round pick, is hitting less than .200, but his ops is above .700. This is due to him drawing 51 walks.

I think there is potential for both, particularly Mitchel. If he can be more aggressive and cut down on his strikeouts. He’s awfully young.

Do we move Liberatore to the bullpen? He hasn’t been very good this year. Maybe skip him for a start or 2?

Lin, Rajcic, Gastelum, Mathews, and the other Baez will be Rule 5 eligible this November. I also like Mendoza replacing Urias next year. Love and Rincon are eligible as well, but at this point unlikely to be added to the 40 man roster. I believe Urias and May will be free agents. Romero or Nootbaar could traded along with May being dealt.

The next CBA help clarify Mays future. Also, it seems like we have depth at starter with Dobbins being ready, Mautz and Mathews near ready. They could conceivably replace May and replace any injuries/inneffectiveness.

What do we do with May? I don’t think,he’ll be back next year unless he signs an extension. A qualifying offer could be in order.

Is it just me, or has the umpires performance improved this year? I’m not sure the numbers support my statement. It’s just the eye test I’m going by.

Why are reliever performances from year to year so volatile? Svanson has really good stuff, but his results have been abysmal until recently.

I wonder if we are in a roster crunch. But as Brian says, roster moves are not as complicated as we think. Pozo, Roycroft and Prieto are possible DFAs. I would prefer not losing Prieto though. And trades might be a factor too like Romero, May, and Nootbaar.
