Brian, I think a list of relievers with an era under 5 for Memphis shows how few are near ready to help the big club. Perhaps that was your point. Fernandez has had middling results after a good 2025 campaign.
July 27, 2026 at 5:59 am #314208Yes, that was my point.
July 27, 2026 at 6:22 am #314211I think Winquest would be serviceable if called up today. He is striking out a good amount and not walking guys which gives him a 4.14 FIP. He has given up some long balls which hurt him. I don’t think he would come up and be amazing right away, but he would be better than Svanson is right now.
July 27, 2026 at 6:58 am #314212Winquest’s ERA by month.
April 12.00
May 1.59
June 6.30
July 5.63Can I have the May version, please? 😉
July 27, 2026 at 7:40 am #314217We know the org doen’t like Winquest as much as at least a couple pretty useless deep depth guys that got 40 man slots instead of him.

July 27, 2026 at 11:58 am #314242I am expecting to see a bullpen of O’Brien, Graceffo, Gastellum, Mautz, Fernandez, Hjerpe, Soriano, and Winquest in a week. I could see Dobbins in one of those spots if Matthews becomes the fifth starter or O’Brien is traded.
Maybe not Hjerpe if they aren’t able to trade Bruihl.
July 27, 2026 at 1:54 pm #314251Hjerpe needs to stay healthy, annd innings. But I doubt he’s ready for the big leagues.
July 27, 2026 at 2:50 pm #314252I wonder how busy we’ll be at the deadline. We all know who we may trade, players like Nootbaar, May, and/or Romero. But what are our needs in return? If we could net a starting pitching prospect that would be nice. As has been noted, our bullpen needs shoring up particularly from the side side if we trade Romero. Another possibility is a right handed bat who could play center. Any players acquired should be young controllable players.
July 27, 2026 at 3:15 pm #314259It would be nice to acquire a young OF and a young 3B but I am not expecting everything to happen in the next week. Some of it may have to happen in the offseason, which may consist of one week in March due to the upcoming CBA strife.
July 27, 2026 at 3:29 pm #314260Hjerpe has 26 innings above A level. 113 pro innings altogether. I have no confidence the Cardinals will do what makes sense when it comes to pitcher development, so who knows.

cardsfan64ParticipantPersonally, I don’t expect more than 2 or 3 trades this week, unless you count the Cards DFA’ing a player and trading them for cash. I expect them to sell Romero and maybe May, but not much else, unless teams get crazy desperate on the last day. Noot would be the one that would cause a team to overpay at the deadline and blow my theory. I guess Stanek could be had as well for a low level prospect or two.
July 27, 2026 at 5:06 pm #314268Well, by name anyway you would much rather see a pitcher come in to a game named Winquest than Blewett. 😄
July 27, 2026 at 7:30 pm #314287I always thought that Roy O. and Linda R. coined the best name for a pitcher…
July 27, 2026 at 7:47 pm #314289Good point mike. Some observations just can’t be argued with.
