Strzelecki certainly landed in the best possible place. He has been a one inning guy all year in AAA and last pitched a week ago. He could potentially show enough to get called up to take some innings given the state of our pen. Not to wish it on him, but he could be a future DFA like we have seen plenty of. Potentially more than once. Wish him well.

Agree 100%. What I found odd was that they thought enough of this to issue a press release. That seems unusual for these kinds of pitchers treated as disposable.

Issuing the press release in this case might have nothing to do with Strzelecki’s case being different but rather be due to a slight shift in responsibilities within a FO department or a tweek to policy.

This signing signals to me that some of the guys we have in the current bullpen will not be here after the deadline thus backfill will be necessary.

Between the poor results of the big clubs bullpen, the injury to Rajcic, the promotion of Gastelum, and lack of quality of minor league relief leaves few relief options left. Mautz appears to be ticketed for relief this year. That could be one option going forward, as current starters could get a bullpen shift. This is a last resort, obviously.

The challenge of guys like Strzelecki is that having no options remaining means he could be one and done.

he could be one and done

Maybe he could be one and somebody else could be done. That would be more news release worthy. The bar to clear is low.

Brian, I don’t think Zach Levenson went on the IL on the 23rd. He is still playing!

This one didn’t show up in the official Player News from the Cardinals but was on the transaction page. Can you confirm, Brian? Yordy Herrera is still listed on the FCL page from MiLB, but Facundo is not. Could the Player Development group have listed the wrong name when publishing the latest drops?

07/24/26 – FCL Cardinals released OF Facundo Velásquez.

I mixed up Levenson and Honeyman. Thank you for pointing it out so I could correct it.

Yes, Herrera is correct. I suspect it is an MiLB.com snafu but will check on it. Either he and Velazquez are both released or they mixed up the two names.

Brian, on the matrix you show PB as 29-7 but I think it should be 28-8, as you have five listed on the 7-day IL (Echman, Gálvez, Knowles, Kubrick, and Shelagowski), two on the 60-day (Breckheimer and Young), and one on the full-season (Cruz). I don’t think any of those have been activated. Yes?

Kublick was activated on 7/17. At the time, I changed my master copy but didn’t update the live Matrix to remove the (7 IL) after his name or list the transaction. So, 29+7 should be right. Thank you for bringing this up.

Doesn’t a 40 man spot have to be cleared? I like the Chaims way. Mo would have kept using Roycroft.

Unless an unjury occurs Dobbins can’t be called up for 10 days, right?

I Think he can return if a trade happens 27.

Just curious on why this guy was stashed in PB? Was it a roster crunch in AA-AAA?

There was an open 40-man spot when Blewett was DFAed.

They likely sent Strzelecki to Jupiter first because of the facilities and coaches there.

Options are 15 days for pitchers. An early return is allowed if someone else goes on the IL. A one-day return is allowed for the 27th man in a double-header. I am not aware of a trade rule.

    From the transaction page:
07/28/26 – RHP Tegan Kuhns assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/28/26 – RHP Cal Randall assigned to FCL Cardinals.
07/28/26 – SS Rocco Maniscalco assigned to FCL Cardinals.

Brian, I assume this is just a procedural move to put them on a team since the FCL has already finished their schedule. Can we expect some of the draftees will be moved up to Palm Beach as soon as next week? I would love to see them get into some action!
