I haven’t heard any updates on Chase Davis. What is his injury and when he expected to return?

3 weeks ago he was diagnosed with a tight hamstring. The thought at the time was he’d only be out around the minimum time (around 7-10 days). I haven’t seen anything since. He’s well beyond the timetable.

Speaking of well beyond the timetable, Ixan Henderson was shut down mid February and at the time we heard :

“Bloom says Henderson has a mild flexor strain that cropped up during his ramp ump,” Jones wrote on X. “Imaging showed no underlying structural issues with the elbow, but he’s no throw for now. ”

    Since then, nothing. 4+ months.

Davis appears to be a bust. Nick Plummer 2.0. He still has time. We have had some bad first round picks.

Nick Plummer a solidly appropriate bust comp here- and recent.

Is Chase yet another first round bust?

Could be. Or maybe he becomes more of a “Mickey Moniak” where he finds success later with another organization.

We will just have to see. Some guys eventually put it together and others not so much.

Another comp could be Darnell McDonald. An absolute stud who had a full ride offer from Texas to play football, but took the signing bonus from the Orioles and went the baseball route. Had some success in baseball but not what was forecasted for him. Darnell struggled to adapt to wooden bats.

Whenever a high draft pick or a tout gets promoted without having played their way out of the previous level its a bad sign.

It is a sign that the player is close to becoming Rule 5 eligible and is getting a last chance to show he deserves a 40-man spot.

Davis seems like a good choice for the Arizona Fall League!

If he makes it as a fourth outfielder that normally would be a good outcome, but as a first round pick he should at least be a second division starter.
