Complete list of Memphis relievers with a Triple-A ERA under 5.00:

    Brycen Mautz 3.18 (5 2/3 innings – on 40-man)
    Victor Santos 3.38 (10 2/3 innings)
    Ryan Fernandez 3.96 (on 40-man)
    Hancel Rincon 4.20

    That’s all folks!

Svanson is not out of options, but the choices to replace him are few.

Palm Beach (Cardinals) and Jupiter (Marlins) play in the main stadium. The FCL teams play on the back fields.

Palm Beach is there all season, too.

Plus, the Jupiter complex is the busiest facility in the US for youth tournaments.

Palm Beach County owns the complex and paid much of the renovation cost. The Cardinals and Marlins lease their parts.

Move more of the player development expense to colleges.

    C27 asked:

How much does mlb save by having the Fcl start earlier? Shouldn’t player development Abe more important than $$?

They save a month of salary for up to 35 players and coaches. Until the past few years, players received no salary for extended spring training. Since teams have to pay them now, the partial solution was to cut a month of development out of every season.

Since they eliminated two entire levels not long ago, the primary motivation seems clear.

It hurts that they end the FCL season so early that none of the draft picks can play. A few of the college hitters may debut with Palm Beach at some point in August.

Well, it hasn’t worked for Baez yet. Last I checked he leads Triple-A in home runs.

The challenge of guys like Strzelecki is that having no options remaining means he could be one and done.

PCA was a Mets first rounder. One of many terrible trades made by them.

If someone said that Noot should be sold at a discount, I disagree also. But if he can fetch full value, I say, “Do it!”. The potential fill in role in CF does not justify keeping him, IMO, if they get a good offer. My view is that his value will likely never be higher as he proved he is healthy and playing close to his career norm. But when all is said and done, he is a 5-10% above MLB average player (OPS+).

He is a year and a half away from free agency and he isn’t going to be here when the Cardinals are truly competitive again. If they don’t get the good offer now, I bet he will certainly be traded in the upcoming offseason.

However, because of a potential lockout stalling all offseason activity, if I was the Cards, that would give me additional incentive to move him now. Either way, Noot walks after the 2027 season. He is not a core player to get a big, multi-year deal – at least not here.

Agree 100%. What I found odd was that they thought enough of this to issue a press release. That seems unusual for these kinds of pitchers treated as disposable.

Do you think they would play Nootbaar every day in CF? The last year he was a semi-regular there was in 2023, when he split time with Tyler O’Neill.

Rats, some other team had to DEVELOP that MOTO bat and really good SP you want. The Cardinals’ plan is to do the development themselves. And if they still have gaps 2-3 years down the road when those additions could help the team go deeper in the playoffs, then they will go into the market. It isn’t going to happen now.

They had the MOTO bat (Contreras) and the really good SP (Gray) you want as recently as last season and the Cardinals still didn’t win. It was because the rest of the roster isn’t good enough. You have to wait until the entire roster improves.

I think it is a fair argument to say the Burly and Herrera don’t fit on the roster together and one should go.

Why do you say that? One plays first and the other DHes. One bats left, the other right. There is no redundancy and neither one of them is blocking anyone else.

The Cardinals already cleared up the redundancy at these positions when they traded Contreras.
