ParticipantShady –
How do you feel about Rom, McGreevy, Graceffo, Robberse, and
Kloffenstein? Would appreciate your input. How would you stack rank them as far as their chances to make the major league club and stick in the next year or two? Thanks very much in advance.bccran
ParticipantShady – Just thought you might have some specific ideas about Graceffo, McGreevy, Kloffenstein, Rom, Robberse, etc. Always enjoy your input.

ParticipantThat would be great if they earned a promotion to AAA, Shady. Whom would you project they replace in the Memphis rotation?
bccran
ParticipantTink Hence is only 20 years old, and split his time last year between high A and AA. He had a 6.13 ERA at Springfield in 12 starts. He hasn’t earned a promotion yet and isn’t quite ready for AAA. Roby is only 22 and his development has been slowed by injury. Best to start him out slowly. He has only 14 starts so far at AA.
bccran
ParticipantMikemike – Add Roby to your list. Many feel he and Hence have the highest ceilings in the system.

ParticipantUnfortunately, you can’t predict injuries. I talked to coaches at Spring Training the year after Hudson was drafted and they raved about his 96 MPH sinking fast ball.
Flaherty
Wacha
Hudson
Martinez
Gallen
Alcantara
Etc.There have been some successes.

Participant25 –
Hudson was 16-7 in 2019 with a 3.35 ERA in 32 starts.

ParticipantIf Lynn, Gibson, and Matz continue to pitch well, and Mikolas rebounds as Sonny comes back, this could be a very interesting season. Just hope they all stay healthy.

ParticipantBB – IMHO it’s pen mismanagement.
bccran
ParticipantWill ignore.

ParticipantToo early to talk about trade chips or trade value.

ParticipantThe 9th highest payroll in MLB now is $223.7 million. What’s the answer? Outspend some of the teams above the Cardinals?

ParticipantTough growing pains. Burleson and Scott are 0 for 14 so far.
bccran
ParticipantBurleson right now is 0 for 6 for the season with 3 strike outs.

ParticipantTough day today for Saggese. 0 for 4 with 2 Ks.
bccran
ParticipantThe problem with Burleson is that’s he’s a one dimensional player. He can hit, but he can’t play defense well, and he’s slow on the basepaths. I’m all for him, but he sure has his limitations.
March 29, 2024 at 4:49 pm in reply to: Scott and Saggese provide solid insurance this season #245414bccran
ParticipantUnfortunately there is no room for Saggese as it stands now, unless the Cards trade Donovan. The infield is set with
Goldy, Winn, Gorman/Donovan/Edman/Prieto, and Goldy/Walker/Gorman/Burleson. The outfield is also set going forward. Maybe they trade Saggese for pitching. A package of Saggese and Burleson might bring a pretty good starter.March 29, 2024 at 1:54 pm in reply to: Scott and Saggese provide solid insurance this season #245386bccran
ParticipantAgree about Saggese. He should be playing all over the darn place in order to display his versatility. That might even help his doggone chances of being called up sooner than later!
bccran
ParticipantHow did Goldy do in ST, BB? And how did he do in the 1st game of the regular season?
bccran
ParticipantA long time scout once told me not to put any importance on Spring Training stats – either good or bad.
bccran
ParticipantI’m pulling hard for Burleson, but he hasn’t produced at the major league level very well so far.
bccran
ParticipantIMHO, Walker was rushed too. He only had 29 games at AAA.
bccran
ParticipantBurleson was drafted in 2020, so he missed that summer of professional development. In 2021, his first year as a pro, he went from high A to
AA to AAA. In 2022, in only his second year, he was promoted to the majors after 107 AAA games. So his progression to the majors to me was pretty rushed.bccran
ParticipantBurleson was rushed to
the majors and now has an opportunity to really settle in. Hope he does. He and Gorman are the LH bats we’ve been looking for.bccran
ParticipantI don’t want to see Burleson traded. That them thar guy can take!
