The Cardinals appear to have some decent trade chips when Edman, Nootbaar, and Carlson return. Ex. Burleson, Saggese, Prieto, Fermin, Pages, Baker, etc. And why wouldn’t Arenado not want to join the Dodgers if he really wants a chance at a WS ring? And Goldschmidt might still be attractive to a contending team needing a power threat.

The trade deadline is July 31. That is four months from tomorrow. We have no way of knowing which players will play well and which ones slump. We don’t know if the Cards will be in the race and will want to add players or be in last place and want to dump. It appears you are assuming the latter. They’ve only played two games…

Brian, just looking ahead. Whether they are in the division race or way behind at the deadline.Especially, the way the roster is shaping up when some talented players return.

The excess players will go to Memphis. This isn’t the time of year for trades. But those who want to talk about future trades are certainly welcome to do so. For me, there are way too many variables to have any idea what to say.

Brian, I guess I just like to anticipate potential trades to help the team now and in the future. I commend Mo for doing that at the last deadline. Especially, for the future.

We actually have a Trade Ideas thread pinned at the top FYI. Thanks.

Why trade young talent if they don’t know if competitive yet? Jumping the gun.

    We can revisit in July.

    Thanks. I see that now.

I think if the discussion tends toward who might be building value, and who might be becoming expendable due to the emergence of others, that sort of thing, it could be a worthwhile thread to have around as the season unfolds. Hopefully it will not become cluttered with ‘trade ideas’.

The mods can correct me if I am wrong but I think the rationale behind the limited threads idea is that it is easier for posters to have a more thorough and complete discussion about a particular topic if it can be done inside the same thread where everyone’s ideas reside instead of having to bounce around to multiple threads to discuss the same topic.

Obviously new threads will need to be created from time to time but reducing the redundancy seems to make for a more robust and enjoyable experience for all. A majority of the posters have been able to live by this model for some time.

Again no one is suggesting the number of posts be limited. It is just easier to discuss the issues in a common thread.

Burleson might have increased his trade value with his strong performance, defensively and offensively, last night.

Mr Shade, do you really think one game, in a 162 game season, is going to increase or decrease a player’s trade value? That seems to be a bit of a stretch, but of course, you’re entitled to your opinion.

Same for slighting a player after first two games. Agree?

No. If Player A has been really bad for two seasons and then starts the season off poorly, it’s fair to wonder if said player is simply a bad player.

But to take any player, pick out one game, and believe teams will either upgrade or degrade their rating/evaluation of the player based upon one game, well, that’s is a bit of a stretch and a totally different scenario.

Are we trading Burleson now? This could potentially be as disastrous as a Steve Carlton fiasco…

Baloney ! So you weren’t impressed, at all, with Burleson’s clutch performance last night. Is that correct? By the way, I have a feeling Burly impressed at least one other team by last night’s performance. And there were likely scouts from other teams observing, too.

You guys take the bait everytime. The topic is almost irrelevant. It is all about starting a new thread.

There is a difference between enthusiasm and narcissim. The former is highly encouraged while the latter is highly annoying.

Seems like the roster might get a little crowded in the outfield with the return of Edman, Nootbaar, and Carlson. Along with with Walker, Scott and Burleson. Right now, it seems Burleson is the primary DH versus RHP.

Pirates at 3-0 are trying to get out of the gate similar to last season. They won 11 of 12 games in April of ’23 and were at or near the top of the NLC before they hit the wall in mid June.

Doubtful. Thought you were coached to use existing trade thread?

Too early to talk about trade chips or trade value.

Yesterday you thought Yamamoto was a Left Handed Pitcher. So maybe it would best suit you to listen and learn from those more informed?

BOCfan, another subtle attempt to belittle and antagonize. Your ulterior motive is pretty obvious here. I messed up on Yamamoto. I admitted it. Why turn it into a another jab?
