ParticipantThere’s not enough room in the park for extra guys. I honestly don’t know how this game will pan out venue-wise. Williamsport is in the middle of nowhere.
This is going to be a big boost for the NYPL which I follow more closely because there are several teams within driving range for me.
14NyquisT
ParticipantWhat are the chances of AlReyes working out of the BP in ’18?
14NyquisT
ParticipantRosenthal to the 60-day, ouch, that’s going to hurt in many ways.
14NyquisT
ParticipantBrian, It seems to me that your 1-20 is focused mainly on a prospect’s potential. 20-30 on a combination of potential and production and 30-50 mostly production and some potential. I’m more of a production guy and weigh a prospect’s promotion with effectiveness highly.
I respect your list because I know that you put your signature on it and will always defend it. As you know, I enjoy seeing any responsible lists and take into account the thinking process of others. I feel that the aggregate I put together (pre-season) was a fair list and I used it in compiling my future rankings.
When our MiLB teams conclude their seasons I’ll start trying to figure out who will be where next opening day and who won’t be around to see it. That will take me most of the off-season, which I dread every year. I follow the NHL but certainly not like I do the Cardinals and their organization. It’s a great deal of enjoyment.
ps… how about that bc not reading your notebooks. He better get up earlier to find the time.

ParticipantLyons isn’t stretched out, but I guess it would depend on the type of injury.

ParticipantI’m wondering if Herget will be used in Weaver’s spot and who will take Lucas’ closer role in Memphis. Last night’s agme against the New Orleans Baby Cakes drew 10,532 ( capacity listed at 10,000). Nice start for Gant takes the Redbirds up to 83-44 (ties team record) and puts them up 22.5 games. Wisdom is now t-3rd place in the PCL in HRS.(28). Despite their success Bader (.103 in last 10 games) and Diaz .158 in last 10, are struggling this Aug. On the other side, Mejia (.422 in last 10) and Ravelo .395 in last 10 are hot. Ravelo left last night’s game after being hit by a pitch in the 1st inning. Crossed fingers.
Zac Gallen suffered through another rough start last night. He hasn’t been able to match his July effectiveness in Aug. Hot… Anthony Garcia, .429 in last 10 Cold… Arozarena .107 last 10.
If Johnson City fails to make the play-offs, (they’re up by 1 game over the Greenville Astros for a spot) their season will end on Aug 31st, just 12 games to go.
14NyquisT
Participantbc…. I would think that it would be Gant. He and Mayers are on the 40-man roster which is now full with Lucas being added.
14NyquisT
ParticipantSince Oquendo left he hasn’t exactly endeared himself with the organization. What is with all this undermining of Matheny’s position? He’s not going anywhere.

Participantbikemike, what player uses two hands to catch today? Back in the 50s and 60s we had those little gloves with the short fingers… some were four fingered and we had to use two hands. Young players of today would laugh ’til they peed if they ever actually saw one. (where are the young players of today? All I see is empty baseball fields). And the 1st baseman’s and catchers mitts weren’t too much bigger. Them days is finished… along with corner cigar stores.
ps… how can a ball pop out of one of the mammoth-sized gloves of today?14NyquisT
ParticipantJacob Schlesener is leading the Appalachian League in Ks with 60. 60…. in 39.0inn. He’ll be 21 in Octso it’s his age appropriate level. A 12th rounder out of H.S. in ’15. Last season he struggled mightily ending with a 9.00 ERA. After two seasons, (working in the BP and interrupted with injury, it looked like his career might have been in jeopardy. Moving JS into a starting role this season has had magical results, and he’s back on track as a prospect.
Derian Gonzalez pitched his 1 inn rehab at GCL-Cards yesterday. It’s good to see some injuried players returning to finish out the season.Sean Gilmartin is back with Memphis,Jordan Schafer is rehabbing in the OF, Eddy Sosa is 4-9 at GCL.
As fast as they can get them back on the field they’re losing more and more to the dreaded DL.

ParticipantValera started 33 games at SS (AAA-AA)last season. Valera is very versatile (2B/SS/3B/OF) and a switch hitter. His defense isn’t that bad for someone playing all those positions and he let’s his bat do his talking for him.
Is he flawed in some other way? I don’t think he causes internal problems. Does he stink, literally?
I can easily see him contributing in St.Louis.14NyquisT
ParticipantMLB’s list is bogus, as many know. IMO, all 5 are still overrated where you have them placed. One has been demoted, one put in the BP, one has had an up and down season… mostly down, one is in a very bad slump and hasn’t been a serious prospect anyway, and one can’t hit his weight.
Anyway, you still missed my original point.
14NyquisT
ParticipantI wonder if he caught the same plane as Rosenthal.
This might close down Wainwright for ’17, and for that matter he might have started his last game, at least as a Cardinal. That might not be a bad thing because with the sketchy season he’s had he would only be blocking a younger pitcher in ’18. C’mon Adam go out in style.
14NyquisT
ParticipantYes, #14 is fair. My point was that you tried to show him as being quite inferior to the two other Ps noted. Showing nothing for Helsley is spin. At least you are consistent regarding Helsley.
14NyquisT
ParticipantBig game for SC tonite. They’re 3.0 games out of the wild card spot and the West Virginia Black Bears (PIT) have been tough on them. Castano should get the better of their spot starter Beau Sulser. Go Spikes.
14NyquisT
ParticipantThat is a shallow argument… those are all subjective selections and POtW=spot analysis, sometimes based on 1 start.
These are actual Game Start averages:
Helsley:- PB 16 starts = 60.2—SPFD 4 starts – 59.5 (solid candidate May-June July) System POM.
Hicks:– PEO 14 Starts = 52.6—–PB 5 starts – 61.4 At Peo (May-June-July) 10 starts =u 49.3
Fernandez:PB 16 starts = 53.4Anyone can spin different arguments pro/con. You tried to show how superior Hicks and Fernandez are compared to Helsley. Some might buy that, some won’t.
ps… I put Hicks ahead of Helsley and Fernandez right after him on my list.pps… you make it seem like you are anti-Helsley and people pick up on that. IMO, you do the same with overrating some prospects that you seem to talk up: JAGarcia-Seijas-Mayers-Seferina-Plummer. You have your pets, others like Helsley. These are my observations, we’re all fans of the Cardinals and their organization.
One more thing, give some love to Valera once in a while. Sometimes it seems like you have him in the Helsley doghouse. Happy Friday 🙂14NyquisT
ParticipantIt’s time to give more playing time to Kelly…. Molina is slipping a lot sooner than most thought he would. He can’t even catch well anymore… that play at the plate was on him.
That triple play should embarrass Yadi… is it that he doesn’t care… he steals bases, but can’t run to 1st????? That’s a problem I have with Molina. WTF, run out grounders and stop being an automatic DP or now TP. Actually, does any team need an over-the-hill C that just signed a sweetheart contract?
I’m sick of the Yadi being Yadi passes.

That’s why we are all commenting here and not in the Card’s F.O. Very, very few are privy to that info. Us guys can only guess and argue about others’ guesses. And that’s why most trades and other personnel moves are such surprises to us. Eh…. you knew that already.
14NyquisT
ParticipantRegarding the August “refresh”: I have 11 different prospects on my latest top 50 list (before the Aug. refresh). The Perez injury news will need an updating… I had him at #22 because I suspected he was injured when he wasn’t playing. I don’t know where to place him now. Too much time lost and way too much baggage.

ParticipantHelsley’s rankings
TCN Community 12-’16 = 13
TCN Official…….. = 15
MLB 2-23-’17…….. = NR
MLB 7-16-’17…….. = 29
MLB 8-7-’17……… = 24
VEB Community 3-’17. = 26
Redbird Daily 3-’17. = 15
Prospects 1500…… = 26The Aggregate of the many lists that I used = 23. Dragged down by some “expert” lists.
The most recent list that I created myself. =13
IMO… Some have underrated Helsley for the last two seasons …. but not all.
14NyquisT
ParticipantHalf way through August the leading contenders for Pitcher Of the Month IMO are Gomber (SPRF)- Warner (Peo)- Summerville (SC)- DeJesus (GCL-Cards)
14NyquisT
ParticipantInteresting items…. Thanks for sharing your experience at Fenway, first time?
Diaz wants back into MLB badly.
There is so much to read into Moz’ “just playing…” comment regarding Piscotty. I have my own ideas. SP hit his 3rd HR at MEM last night.
That’s some news about the instruct. league. It sounds like the core of players will be different.
Have the time of your life…. ps. don’t root too loud for the Cards… Bosox die-hards don’t take kindly to that. How much did it cost you to park? Get home in one piece.
14NyquisT
ParticipantUpton is by far superior to any of those on our depth chart, except for Fowler. Sure I could see trading those 8 for Upton. I hope Mozeliak thinks the same way.
14NyquisT
ParticipantWHIP is a very good indication of a pitcher’s long-term success, along with progressing up the organization.
Same Ps moving up levels this season:
Weaver- up and back
Flaherty- yes & WHIP down .04
Hudson- yes – same
Alcantara- no & WHIP up .13
Fernandez- no & WHIP down .05
Gallen- yes & WHIP down .02
Hicks- yes & whip down .04
Gomber- no & WHIP up .13
Woodford- no & WHIP up .10
Seijas- no & WHIP up .28
Jones- no & WHIP up .01
Oviedo- yes & WHIP up .17
Helsley- yes & WHIP up .01This plus several other factors should rearrange the Prospects List… for some rankers. Some will still go with the subjectable “potential”.
14NyquisT
ParticipantJordan Hicks pitched 3.0 inn of relief for PB last night at Dunedin… 49 pitches- 0runs- 3H-3K.
Brady Whalen is 9 for his last 20 for Johnson City.
Jordan Schafer began his rehab at GCL… as a DH… 0-2, 1BB.
Noel DeJesus is making the most out of his chance to start. Last night in his 9th game and fourth start and got his 2nd win. The 20 y.o. has a 2.76 ERA and his last 4 Game Starts have been 62-42-69-63. (the rest of the staff has 2 GS over 60 for the entire season)
Jon Machado (18) is 13-26 in his last 6 games…. getting his BA. up to .353
