ParticipantThe value of the franchise is down for now. But that value is going to shoot back up again as soon as the Cardinals resume their winning ways.
- WDWJr is a true baseball fan.
He’s good for the city, good for the Cardinal fan base, and good for baseball.
Mud…. with all due respect. Define “winning ways”. There’s no guarantee that the enthusiasm for the team will return as we’re living in a different cultural climate. All the empty seats may never be filled again. IMO, he may be good for the Baseball Village or whatever they call it. And what has he done for the fans lately? There’s no doubt that the franchise is in freefall right now.
I’m going to try very hard to be optimistic…. but that’s a tough row to hoe.

ParticipantDeWitt’s pockets touch the ground. I’d prefer Hoffman, but it ain’t happening. Right now this teamed seems to be cursed.
14NyquisT
ParticipantThe Cardinals will never be any good again as long as the DeWitt’s own the team.
This is sad but true.
Jnev…. I’ll put in everything that I own.

ParticipantGameCard….. exactly. I don’t get it. And not interested in those projections. Maybe, if you show all of the divisions or leagues…. all 30 teams.

ParticipantMy comment on this topic was obviously deleted. What gives brian.

ParticipantEven BDW Jr. misstated this at Winter Warm Up, that the Cards have the no. 1 farm system.
The man is obviously dilutional. He might believe that the Cardinals are even money to win the NL pennant.

ParticipantToo disappointed to comment.

ParticipantHerrera, Nootbaar and Gorman. If only. If wee get 3-4 guys to have over-achieving seasons and a stater or two to step up large….. what are we talking…. third place? If the division regresses… second place?

ParticipantPadsFS:
This is probably the least excited I’ve ever been for a season haha.
All he did was send off the big contracts. Pretty weak rebuild imo.0
Thegreyghost:
Pretty hard to field a competitive team when the 40 man is making under $70 million, it’s pretty obvious they are tanking this year
Memphis should be the team to follow.

ParticipantThe more I’m reading lately re: moving Donovan, the more I hear people backing off from their insistence to a make a move. Now I see stories about keeping Donovan. He will be in our opening day lineup in LF.
14NyquisT
ParticipantThe Velasquez acquisition looks like a Mozeliak move. He’s 27 so he’d have to make the MLB roster out of ST. His numbers are underwhelming but he does have some punch. A RF that was used mainly as a DH, his Cf experience goes back to ’23 (3 games) so he really doesn’t fit into one of our needs. Is he any better than Church who has more flexibility. A hope and pray guy with the Cards at this point.
But really, we were used to this kind of move but will Bloom continue on with veterans who basically have no business being considered for our MLB roster.
14NyquisT
ParticipantAdd Donovan to the OF and suddenly its not so bad. Church-Scott-Donovan. Not a great OF but you can’t go into the season with Walker penciled as a starter. He really needs to show that he can at least hit AAA pitching.

ParticipantBHC:
I want the Cardinals to get the highest return possible.
That would be not trading Donovan.
Donovan for STL OF in ’26.
You all will thank me and Pugs later.

Participantwe simply need more funds going forward.
Has BDW been notified?

ParticipantMr p….. check. And check mate.

ParticipantThis topic began on 11/10 2024 and this is comment #1100. It might be interesting to go back through all the opinions but who has the time.

ParticipantAfter a year of an Arenado trade rumors in which so many predicted this team, that team, this player, that player no one could have predicted Jack Martinez to be the return. The Arenado trade value was not the sticking point it was all the financials that Bloom had to deal with. I guess some are scrambling to find out more about Martinez…. you won’t find him on the ARI top-30 list or too many spots at all. He is a 22 y.o. 8th round pick last year. A RHP who is presently on a Rookie League roster. Nothing against him but the chances of seeing him at Busch are very long.
Anyway, its over. Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief although many are confused, but there is little complaining and some best wishes for a guy that was half of perhaps the greatest STL corner infielders ever. C’est la vie….. onward and upward.
ps. Don’t Trade Donovan. His versatility is way too valuable.

Participant-
Cardinals Insider Adds Another Team To Brendan Donovan Chase.
Another “insider” proposing another team to be a trade partner. It seems the Calgary Flames have been searching for a goaltender and willing to pay in cash to acquire Donny. There’s another rumor circulating around that the Arizona Cardinals are looking for a punter and Donovan’s name has come up.
Well that’s it for today.
Oh yeah….. Don’t trade Donovan.
14NyquisT
ParticipantI am so sick of seeing articles predicting what team Donovan will be traded to. I think I’ve seen just about all of the 29 MLB teams. Just this week I saw stories regarding a trade to three NHL teams (he probably doesn’t own skates) and one NFL team. I expect to see some projecting a Donovan trade to a professional pickleball team and a story about Donovan joining the PGA tour.
Mustn’t trade Donovan.

ParticipantKeeping Donovan.
AlbertTheMachine (this is from the TCN countdown topic) about Wetherholt
Kyle stated:
Wetherholt is the prototype for what every Cardinals fan grew up championing: hustle, baseball intelligence, high character, and leaving it all out on the field.
As we enter a new age of Cardinals baseball, there isn’t a more perfect prospect to ring in the new age than JJ Wetherholt, as he represents all that is right with both traditional and modern baseball.
Wetherholt would flourish just by having Donovan around.
jj-cf-stl:
Donovan is our Mr. Fix it for the Cardinals and many of these metrics don’t capture his glue value that makes a roster better. That type usage, not even knowing his position, our batting order spot can be pretty random, daily. The numbers might say 2B is more valuable than LF, but putting out roster fires in LF, 3B, etc., should bring extra value.
Donovans numbers can withstand super utility duty and he went from batting cleanup to leading off during this season, another fix it job. The Donovan numbers don’t capture the teams added value, but they do solidify his numbers as “under most all circumstances”, daily.
I get it that a lot of fans dream of a monster return (sugar plums) for Donovan. The Cardinals won’t be able to acquire this sort of equal value. He is worth more to this team than any of the other 29.
IMO, Donovan has been a once in a decade type player for this team…. a little rubbing off couldn’t hurt the young guys that are going to be the next generation of Cardinal baseball.14NyquisT
ParticipantI hope that we don’t have to break camp with the rotation above. Five question marks. But that’s what we have now. Our HC may might have pallente of reasons to have fitts by May.
14NyquisT
ParticipantDoes he still have time to add a couple of inches to his 5’8″ 210lbs frame? Probably not, right?
14NyquisT
ParticipantMo and his crew were notorious for rushing prospects which is why Walker is so messed up
Sometimes top prospects just don’t have it. Walker had for a small time but they found how to pitch to him and he hasn’t adjusted.
14NyquisT
ParticipantYou are right Willie. But from where we sit at home all we can do is hope. ala Mozeliak. We’ll find out if we’re fools by 2027.
14NyquisT
Participantthe offense being better overall if Donovan stays and Wetherholt plays every day. Without Donovan, the offense gets worse compared to last season, but there’s a big question about how much worse.
Hats off to Jnevel for coming up with this battle cry. And it is the best scenario for the team going forward.
