ParticipantThe FO is in a tough position. If they go get a good catcher it would mean that they feel Yadi won’t be back or he won’t be the Yadi of days gone by. Is the 90 day IL an option?
He is probably having a good time at home with not much motivation to get back to work accept the farewell visits to all the other teams on the away schedule.
Who knows what’s going on in his head?

ParticipantI think they locked the door to his doghouse.

ParticipantDid the organization totally forget that they have a team in Peoria? I can’t see how they can score any runs at all now. They’ve given up 9 players to Springfield and haven’t gotten much help from Palm Beach.
It can’t be a positive for individual progress but being on the Chiefs can’t be helping.July 15, 2022 at 10:44 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 92 thread – Thursday, July 14 vs. Dodgers #19132114NyquisT
ParticipantI agree with the front office on Yepez staying…. more versatility and his bat is adequate. His 11 HRs mean something. I won’t criticize Lars because he has provided some spark… but .198 = ng.

ParticipantC’mon in all fairness Irving Lopez was clearly the player of the day. 4-5 3R 3RBI 2B HR BB. A little less favoritism here would be nice to see.

ParticipantGiants picked up on Rondon.

ParticipantLast night’s game was heart-breaking and mind-blowing together. LAD faced Wainwright 2/3 times and then the BP pitchers looked like batting practice pitchers. They all stumbled and the Cards fell. Just a little more offence in the later innings was missing. We’ve seen it before but this one hurt. We had ’em beat with Gonsolin on the mound…. we had ’em beat damn it.
Anyway AW pitched a good game against a good team.

ParticipantWho slipped and didn’t select Paniaqua as player of the day? He only pitched the best game of the season in the organization.

ParticipantI feel that there is reason to think that Dickerson was playing with an annoying injury and his stint on the IL gave it time to heal. Let’s hope that I’m right. The guy knows how to hit.
Good to see the bottom of the order give most of last night’s production. Now if the top can step up vs. the LAD we’ll take 2 out of 3…. at least.

ParticipantOne more hope bites the dust.
Jeez, will we ever see Flaherty again in STL?
Do we pencil him in for the ’23 rotation?
14NyquisT
ParticipantI’ll bet a lot of Card fans were excited about that ’18 list. Only Knizner is on our active list now. Not very surprising to me as. Let’s see how our ’22 prospects turn out four years from now. I’ll get back here in ’26 to go over the ’22 list.
How many do you feel will still be on the Card’s active list 7/12/26?

ParticipantPugs… AP is there for show. Just like he is in STL. But you knew that.

ParticipantThese bats can’t stay cold any longer….. Cards win tonight behind Mikolas and take two of three from the Bums…. Liberatore- Wainwright- Hudson.
As for the Brewers….. they hit the road for two at MIN and then 4 in SF. Those two teams will be waiting for them. They go 2 and 4.Ya just have to expect the unexpected.
ps….. Where is Larry Jaster when you need him?

Participant. I have just never been terribly interested in events that celebrate the individual players over the teams, which is why I don’t get too worked up over the end of year awards either.
I’m with you gscott…. 100%.

ParticipantMozeliak won’t admit he made a mistake in hiring Marmol as his puppet manager. And Mo will never criticize him like Marmol openly does some players.
The lack of superior defense is catching up to the Cards. O’Neill will help that but his hitting is what we need to see improved. The loss of Bader for possibly the rest of the season will be sorely missed.
There is a couple of posters that nearly always put a negative spin on Edman…. you know at least one of them. He’s been down on Edman since Tommy stepped on the field in STL. Unrelenting and he’d be glad to see Edman go elsewhere.

ParticipantIf you read this it will give you something to ponder while waiting for the game this evening.

ParticipantThis is what the IL looks like today.
PITCHERS
Cabrera ? little to read about
Flaherty TBD
Hicks early July
Matz July
McFarland ?
VerHagen TBD
Reyes 6o day… maybe’23
PLAYERS
Molina happy in PR
Bader TBD… could be a long time…. bum wheel
Dickerson late July
O’Neill Rehab next weekNot all these guys will be back at once… but will dibble back. That’s a lot of roster moves to make. Any ideas how this all plays out? The who-s the when-s and the why-s.
Milb-ers on the 40 man roster
Liberatore next rotation spot?
Pacheco
Rondon
Walsh
Whitley first to go… lousy thus far.

ParticipantI thought that Torres would break out this season (and said so here)…. not happening. He was bothered by early season injury and really hasn’t got going. He’ll be on my break out list for ’23….there’s a lot of talent there.
June 28, 2022 at 11:17 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 77 thread – Tuesday, June 28 vs. Marlins #18946214NyquisT
ParticipantThe June 30th off day gets us through to July with the 4 starters we’re left with. After that its 17 straight days with no open dates. Either Liberatore or Woodford needs to step on it…. this is a great opportunity dropped in one/both their laps. Oviedo needs to get down to Memphis to be stretched out. The IL has the pitching depth drying up.
Those waiting for Matz to come back, good luck. He’ll be out for a while yet….. rehab.
I guess the FO will force him in the rotation when he is healthy. You know the FO $$$ thing.

Don’t get to far ahead of yourself. Things have a way of working themselves out, and way more prospects flame out than make it. Players age, get hurt and aren’t the same. The offense now is pretty darn good, just hope the pitching is helped. And you’ve got 2 guys in positions they’ve yet to play an inning at.
This is the most sensible way to approach this topic.
It will be fun to check back here about a year from now to see who has the best magic-8 ball.

Participantcc…. Jack is pitching very un-Ralston-like in his rehab at Palm Beach. In the game Saturday 0.0 IP 4 BB 22 pitches 6 strikes and a wild pitch. Since it is his rehab assignment he just doesn’t seem ready. Perhaps I shouldn’t have made that remark but just using similar historic results.
Incredible…. Both Springfield (NWA) and Palm Beach (St Lucie) swept their 6 game series. St.Lucie is the 1st-place team. Unbelievable. Springfield got some good pitching by McGreevy and Leahy and St. Lucie got two super-well games from Cornwell.
Scotty Hurst…. 9 hits in his last 3 games for Memphis. He’s only getting starts because Nootbaar went back up to STL. He went into the series batiing .191 and ended up coming out with a .257 avg.

ParticipantGriffin Roberts struck out the side in the 9th for PB, a 7-6 win (5th win in a row against the 40-27 St. Lucie) and got his second win in 4 seasons (’20 DNP). Lifetime he’s pitched in 29 games with 15 starts. You’d think he’d have more than 2 wins.
Jack Ralston may be shut down for ’22.
Peoria played their game in 2:17. A 1-0 lose to South Bend. Gragg pitched 5 inn. of shut out ball.
June 24, 2022 at 9:35 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 73 thread – Friday, June 24 vs. Cubs #18903414NyquisT
ParticipantCubs get Pallante-Miko-Flaherty. Pallante has kept the Cards in the game. Mikolas has pitched well in June. (the best of our starters) but Flahery is iffy and we don’t know when or if we’ll see our past ace stand tall.
On June 23rd who had Nootbaar in right, Carlson in center and Yepez in left field in the starting OF pool? Oh and Herrera catching. Things in the clubhouse change so often. In the 50s and 60s you more or less knew what the lineup would be for every game. Players took the field with minor injuries in those days. The bench players usually only pinch hit or replaced starters in blowouts, and sometimes got a rare start.
14NyquisT
ParticipantSome players couldn’t do that if they tried. Maybe Fletcher wants to keep his sign on money then become a lawyer.
