And we haven’t heard from Girsch again. 🙂

14NyquisTParticipant2/24 John Denton:
Marmol confident Cards ‘have what it takes’ to get back to postseason.
The irony is that the Cards would have a better chance without him.
14NyquisTParticipantcardfan64….. I hope that you have a super time. We’ll expect your reports and comments.
14NyquisTParticipantPecota is far more optimistic about the 2024 Cardinals than zips as far as a division championship. P=49.4…. z= 33.2. But they both agree on a WS win….. about 2.8% and 2.9%. Both 84+/- wins.
14NyquisTParticipantHe’s back….. Jacob Bosiokovic signed on to a minor league contract.
14NyquisTParticipantI said that based on some sound starts at the end of ’23. If he can carry that into ’24 remains to be seen but he’s due for a comeback, healthy season.
14NyquisTParticipantThis year, guys mostly just have to do what they have been doing. The exceptions are Winn needs to hit some and Matz needs to stay healthy.
Matz is the X-factor for ’24. He has the potential to exceed expectations and over-achieve. This would not surprise me at all. ***IF healthy.
14NyquisTParticipantThese projections were way off for some teams. But that was what they put out for ’23.
Buyer beware.December 27, 2022 at 9:31
ESPN+ coming out with initial Power Rankings via Steamer with some tweaks from the author (Doolittle). Cards are #4 in the NL with around 92-93 projected wins. Mets are currently first overall with about 103 (that’s with Correa), Padres are 2nd with 100(!!) mostly due to giving Tatis Jr a 5-6 WAR projection despite all the extenuating circumstances and Soto winning the MVP, and Braves round out third with 99. Here’s the top 10:
1. Mets (102.8)
2. Padres (99.9)
3. Yankees (99.4)
4. Braves (99.2)
5. Rays (94.4)
6. Houston (93.2)
7. Cards (92.3)
8. Jays (89.9)
9. Dodgers (89.7)
10. Guardians (88.7)14NyquisTParticipantI went back on TCN’s postings to see what the Cardfs were expected to do last season:

Cardinals’ Dylan Cease trade offer
Prospect rankings via MLB.com.White Sox receive: RHP Tink Hence (Cardinals 2023 No. 2 overall prospect), LHP Cooper Hjerpe (Cardinals 2023 No. 7 overall prospect), OF Travis Honeyman (Cardinals 2023 No. 11 overall prospect)
Cardinals receive: RHP Dylan Cease
I would be well tempted to get it done.
14NyquisTParticipantAfter hearing all the rumors about the Cards picking up just about every free agent reliever, we windup with a guy that, to my knowledge, was not mentioned at all. Kind of makes you wonder if that is the reason Mozeliak selected him to sign on. Mo loves surprises. As far as thee 40-man goes…. a P added and a P dropped has been a trend but I don’t know if Middleton is even a better choice than Zuniga. GZ may have a higher ceiling. I said “may”.
Middleton will have all the competition he can handle from our in-house rotaion prospects moving to the BP.
14NyquisTParticipantI heard that talks with Stanek are heating up.
14NyquisTParticipantThat’s easy…… his puppet characteristics make him ideal for Mozeliak to be Mo.
14NyquisTParticipantI would say 1/1/2 but it should be 1/1/1. Marmol is basically a lost cause and offers very little to any pluses this team has. IMO few people listen to him….. much less the FO. He is the true definition of the word “puppet”.
14NyquisTParticipantBut I will always go with the highest odds scenario while others can hold out for highly unlikely possibilities.
Like the Carpenter signing?
14NyquisTParticipantMo was on Amazon and pressed the wrong “buy” button. Actually I won’t mind seeing him around.
14NyquisTParticipantOf all the hundreds of players mentioned here that the Cards should obtain….. not one comment about bringing MCarpenter back. I guess “Welcome backs” are in order.

Cardinals’ John Mozeliak Expected To Leave Front Office In Near Future
Story by Nate Hagerty •
19hHas anyone else hear anything else on this?
14NyquisTParticipantIronically…. Palacios may be blocked by Arozarena.
14NyquisTParticipantThat is not now. So, why create negatives without evidence?
Sure seems that way. I can see a trade and I doubt Edman will be a Cardinal come opening day.
TWIC or BW….Just a little cynicism. Some people here are still dangling Edman out there as trade bait. Stop it.
14NyquisTParticipantbcc: What makes you think they won’t replace Lynn and Gibson with internal guys?
The internals for ’23 are now on other teams. Liberatore has ’24 to prove himself or he’ll be playing elsewhere in ’25. The FO always has high hopes for these kind of pitchers but maybe one year soon one guy will prove him right.
14NyquisTParticipantbccran: I wonder if long term this is a ticket out of town.
Sure seems that way. I can see a trade and I doubt Edman will be a Cardinal come opening day. Maybe better for him to get out of DeWitt’s Camp Cheapo.
14NyquisTParticipantBikemike:
But I did sit at the same table for breakfast at the old Stouffers Riverfront InnI was working for The Stouffer’s Westchester Inn on their management team. That brought back a memory. A position was offered to me to transfer to St. Louis. I passed and stayed in NY. Good non-move call.
14NyquisTParticipantBrian:
My response followed a discussion in which quality starts was being touted, which of course has nothing to do with offensive support and also excludes unearned runs (bad defense). One can often find some substat (variety of factors) to reinforce a point of view. Not right or wrong, just different things to consider.gscott:
I prefer to focus on ERA, WHIP, and Avg. Against. The top comment suggests that the second comment is more accurate as an indicator. I use gscott’s stats as well as GameScore and K/IP to evaluate performance and effectiveness. I have every GS for the last five seasons including the affiliates. For MiLB games I modify the formula slightly (i.e. a subtraction for HRs allowed.) Also I use a line graph to show improvement and consistency.
