The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 3-1 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield infielder Jon Jon Gazdar, was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI in his second game in Double-A. Other standouts include Brody Moore, Brycen Mautz, Austin Love, Deniel Ortiz, Darlin Saladin and Rainiel Rodriguez.

Memphis Redbirds 3 at Oklahoma City Comets 4
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds lost a close contest to the Comets in Oklahoma City in Sunday’s series finale.
Curtis Taylor started his 21st game for Memphis. The right-hander pitched 4 ⅔ innings and allowed two runs on five hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.
Left-hander Anthony Veneziano threw a scoreless frame in relief of Taylor. Zack Weiss fanned three across 2 ⅓ shutout frames. Nick Raquet secured two outs in the bottom of the ninth but surrendered two runs and took the loss.
Memphis broke the scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. Noah Mendlinger was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on an Andy Yerzy single. Brody Moore singled to bring Mendlinger home.

Moore and Yerzy advanced to second base and third base, respectively, on a Michael Siani groundout. JJ Wetherholt walked to load the bases with two outs. Bryan Torres drew a bases-loaded walk to force Yerzy home and double the lead to 2-0.
The Redbirds added a run in the fifth. Matt Lloyd walked Mendlinger was hit by a pitch. Moore singled to bring Lloyd home and extend the lead to 3-0.

The Comets plated two in the fifth to move within a run and scored two more in the bottom of the ninth on former Redbird Luken Baker’s double to walk off the win.
The Redbirds scored three runs on seven hits, all singles. Moore was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Torres was 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI. Lloyd walked twice and scored a run. Wetherholt, Mendlinger, and Yerzy singled.
On the bases, Moore swiped his sixth bag with Memphis.
The Redbirds turned two double plays in an errorless performance.
Memphis is 70-60 overall, and 29-28 in the second half after taking four of six at Oklahoma City. They reside in fourth place in the International League West Division. The Redbirds will head home to AutoZone Park for a six-game set with the Rochester Red Wings, starting Tuesday.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Rochester (WSH). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM CT.
Springfield Cardinals 3, Midland RockHounds 2 (10 innings)
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals walked off the Midland RockHounds for the third consecutive contest, completing the six-game sweep at Hammons Field.
Brycen Mautz made his 23rd start for Springfield. The left-hander pitched five innings and allowed two runs on six hits, no walks, and six strikeouts.
Hunter Hayes fired two scoreless, hit-less innings in relief of Mautz. Luis Gastelum followed with a shutout eighth. Austin Love fanned five across the final two innings and collected his sixth win of the season.
The Cardinals struck first with a two-run third. Trey Paige walked. Miguel Ugueto reached on a fielder’s choice, with Paige safe at second base via a fielding error. Jon Jon Gazdar roped a double to score Paige and Ugueto and put the Cardinals in front 2-0.

Midland knotted the score at two apiece in the fifth. After both teams stranded multiple runners in the ninth, the game went into extra innings. Love and the Cardinals kept the RockHounds off the board in the 10th.
Ugueto began the home 10th at second base. Graysen Tarlow reached via a fielding error, with Ugueto advancing. Gazdar came through with a single to score Ugueto and for the walk off win.

Springfield pitchers stranded 11 RockHounds on base in the victory.
The Cardinals scored three runs on seven hits. Gazdar was 3-for-5 with all three RBI. Jeremy Rivas recorded a double. Tarlow and Dakota Harris each singled. St. Louis rehabber Victor Scott II tallied a single in four at-bats.
On the bases, Scott II swiped his first bag with Springfield. Harris was caught stealing second base.
On defense, pitcher Hayes picked a runner off first base.
Springfield is 79-47 overall, and 36-21 in the second half following the sweep of Midland. They hold a two-game lead in the Texas League North Division with 12 games left. The Cardinals will travel to Arvest Ballpark in Springdale, Arkansas, for their final road series of the season; a six-game set with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, beginning Tuesday.

Peoria Chiefs 6, South Bend Cubs 3
The High-A Peoria Chiefs won Sunday’s series finale over the South Bend Cubs at Dozer Park to finish the six-game sweep.
Springfield rehabber Brandt Thompson started for the Chiefs. The right-hander threw two innings and allowed two runs on three hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.
Darlin Saladin fired five shutout, no-hit frames on two walks and four strikeouts. D.J. Carpenter threw a scoreless eighth inning. Mason Burns finished the game with a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts and lowered his Chiefs ERA to 1.85.
South Bend took a 2-0 lead in the first.
Peoria erupted for six runs in the home sixth to grab the lead. Anyelo Encarnacion singled and swiped second base. Tre Richardson singled to put runners at the corners. Christian Martin lined a single to score Encarnacion and put the Chiefs on the board, with Richardson to third.

Won-Bin Cho singled to bring Richardson home. Cho and Martin advanced on a Jesus Baez groundout. Deniel Ortiz crushed his third home run with Peoria, a three-run blast, to clear the bags and move the Chiefs further ahead at 5-2.

With two outs, Sammy Hernandez pummeled his first High-A home run, a solo shot, to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Chiefs scored six runs on seven hits and went 4-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Ortiz walked and drove in three on a home run. Hernandez belted a home run. Cho singled, scored, and drove in a run. Martin drew two walks, singled, drove in one and scored.
On the basepaths, Encarnacion swiped his fifth bag. Martin stole his first with the Chiefs.
On defense, third baseman Encarnacion committed a fielding error.
Peoria is 50-74 overall, and 24-35 in the second half after sweeping South Bend. The Chiefs reside in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division, nine games out of first place. They are off Monday and will travel to ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit, Wisconsin, for six games with the Beloit Sky Carp in the final series of the regular season, starting Tuesday.

Palm Beach Cardinals 6 at Jupiter Hammerheads 5
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals edged the Jupiter Hammerheads in Sunday’s series finale.
Nelfy Ynfante started for Palm Beach. The right-hander pitched four innings and allowed two runs on six hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
Alan Reyes yielded a run across three innings in relief of Ynfante and collected his third win of the season. Reyes lowered his ERA with Palm Beach to 2.21 and 1.37 on the season. Sam Brodersen threw a shutout eighth. Jovi Galvez surrendered two runs in the ninth but held on to pick up his first save at the Low-A level.
Jupiter took a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Palm Beach tied the game in the fourth. Rainiel Rodriguez crushed his 13th home run with Palm Beach, a solo shot.

Jack Gurevitch followed with his first career triple. Jose Suarez doubled for the third extra-base hit in a row to bring Gurevitch home and knot the game at two apiece.
Jupiter reclaimed the lead with a run in the fifth.
Palm Beach tied the game once more in the sixth. Rodriguez singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Suarez walked. Luis Pino lined a double to bring Rodriguez home as the tying run, with Suarez out at home plate to end the frame.
The Cardinals moved in front in the eighth. Rodriguez, Gurevitch and Suarez drew consecutive walks to load the bags with no outs. Michael Dattalo took a fourth straight free pass to force Rodriguez home. Gurevitch touched home plate on a Pino sacrifice fly, with Dattalo and Suarez advancing. Suarez scored on a wild pitch for a 6-3 lead, with Dattalo receiving credit with a steal of third base on the play.
Palm Beach held off a late Jupiter rally in the victory.
The Cardinals scored six runs on seven hits. Rodriguez was 2-for-4, including a walk, three runs scored, and a solo home run. Pino doubled and drove in two. Suarez walked twice, scored, doubled, and tallied an RBI. Dattalo walked, singled, and drove in a run. Gurevitch walked, tripled, and scored twice. Yordalin Pena doubled.
On the bases, Dattalo stole third base for his first career steal. Ryan Weingartner was caught stealing second base. Yordalin Pena was picked off first base.
On defense, Pena nailed a runner at first base from center field to highlight an errorless game.
Palm Beach is 60-64 overall, and 28-31 in the second half following the series split with Jupiter. They reside in third place in the Florida State League East Division, 12.5 games out of first. The Cardinals are off Monday and will begin their final series of the season on Tuesday in a six-game home set with the Daytona Tortugas.
