Cardinals Minor League Notebook – April 13, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-3 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach right-hander Jacob Odle, fired four innings of one-hit, shutout ball with six strikeouts for his first professional win. Other standouts include Chase Davis, Chen-Wei Lin, Tai Peete, Pete Hansen, Chase Heath and Jack Gurevitch.

Memphis Redbirds 4 at Charlotte Knights 13

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds were pounded by the Charlotte Knights on the road in Sunday’s series finale.

Memphis’ Hancel Rincon made his first start at the Triple-A level. The right-hander threw 2 ⅔ innings and allowed six runs, three earned, on four hits, two walks, and one strikeout. Rincon took the loss.

Max Rajcic yielded two runs and fanned three over 1 ⅔ innings in relief of Rincon. Skylar Hales followed and gave up two runs in one inning. Chris Roycroft collected two outs and maintained his 0.00 ERA with the Redbirds. Tink Hence fired a scoreless seventh inning. Ian Bedell surrendered three runs during the eighth.

Memphis grabbed the lead immediately with a three-run top of the first inning. Colton Ledbetter led off with a single and swiped second. Joshua Báez walked and César Prieto was hit by a pitch to load the bags. Blaze Jordan grounded into a double play as Báez took third, and Ledbetter came home. Leo Bernal scorched a double to score Báez for the second Redbirds run.

Nelson Velázquez lined a single to bring Bernal home and extend the lead to 3-0.

Charlotte erupted for a seven-run third inning to take a 7-3 lead. The Knights added one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three more in the eighth to widen their lead to 13-3.

Down to their final three outs, Memphis looked for a big rally. With two outs, Ramon Mendoza reached on a throwing error. Andy Yerzy singled. Brody Moore lined a single to plate Mendoza for a 13-4 score, but Memphis was unable to rally further in the tough loss.

The Redbirds scored four runs on seven hits. Velázquez was 2-for-4 with an RBI, the lone Redbird with multiple hits. Bernal doubled for the team’s only extra-base hit and drove in a run. Moore singled and notched one RBI. Báez walked twice and scored a run.

On the bases, Ledbetter swiped his third bag of the season.

Defensively, catcher Yerzy and left fielder Velázquez each made a fielding error. Pitcher Rincon picked a runner off first base. Catcher Bernal was tagged with a passed ball.

Memphis is 11-4 on the season following the series split at Charlotte. They hold a one-game lead in the International League West Division with the best record in Triple-A.

The Redbirds are off Monday and will head home to begin a six-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Gwinnett (ATL). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CT.

Springfield Cardinals 2, Tulsa Drillers 7

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals dropped their fifth straight contest to the Tulsa Drillers at Hammons Field in the series finale on Sunday.

Brandt Thompson started his first game of 2026 for Springfield. The right-hander pitched 3 ⅔ innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Thompson took the loss.

Edwin Núñez recorded just two outs and surrendered four runs in relief of Thompson. In his first career relief appearance, Chen-Wei Lin fired four shutout innings on just one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts. Left-hander Michael Watson struck out two hitters in a scoreless ninth frame.

Tulsa jumped in front 7-0 with three runs in the third and four in the fourth.

Springfield chipped into the gap with a pair of runs in the sixth. Noah Mendlinger began the frame with his third double of the season. Chase Davis crushed a two-run home run, his second long ball of 2026, to put Springfield in the run column at 7-2.

Springfield was just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, as they were unable to rally further.

The Cardinals scored two runs on six hits. Davis walked twice and tallied two RBI on a home run. Jeremy Rivas walked and doubled. With two singles, Harris was the lone Cardinal with multiple hits. Mendlinger recorded a double.

On the basepaths, Davis stole his second bag of the year.

Defensively, catcher Graysen Tarlow was charged with two passed balls. Springfield did not record an error.

Springfield is 4-5 on the season after taking just one of six from Tulsa. They are off Monday as they travel to Equity Bank Park in Wichita, Kansas, for a six-game set with the Wichita Wind Surge starting Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game: at Wichita. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CT.

South Bend Cubs 5, Peoria Chiefs 4

The South Bend Cubs scored twice in the ninth inning to steal the High-A Sunday series finale from the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park.

Nate Dohm made his first start of the season for the Chiefs. The right-hander tossed two innings and yielded one run on two hits, no walks, and three strikeouts.

Lefty Jack Findlay fanned two across a scoreless third inning in relief of Dohm. Yhoiker Fajardo followed and threw three innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, with six strikeouts. Bobby Olsen followed and fired two scoreless frames. Jason Savacool surrendered two runs in the ninth inning and was charged with a blown save and the loss.

South Bend took a 3-0 lead with a run in the first inning and two runs in the fourth.

Peoria claimed the lead in a four-run fifth. Cade McGee led off with a single. José Suárez doubled to move McGee to third base. Miguel Villarroel followed with a single to bring McGee home and put the Chiefs on the board. Tai Peete brought everyone home with a three-run home run, his second blast of 2026, to give the Chiefs a 4-3 lead.

South Bend plated two runs in the top of the ninth to grab a late 5-4 lead. Peoria was unable to respond in the bottom of the ninth.

Peoria scored four runs on nine hits. Peete was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run. Villarroel went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Suárez doubled and scored. Rainiel Rodriguez singled twice. McGee singled and scored.

The Chiefs did not steal a base.

On defense, shortstop Jesús Baéz committed a fielding error.

The Chiefs are 3-6 after taking just two of six from the Cubs at home. They are off Monday and will travel to Neuroscience Group Field in Appleton, Wisconsin, for a six-game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, beginning Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game: at Wisconsin (MIL). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM CT.

Palm Beach Cardinals 6 at Bradenton Marauders 0

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals completed the six-game road sweep over the Bradenton Marauders with a shutout win on Sunday.

Pete Hansen started his second rehab game for Palm Beach, as he works to rejoin Springfield. The left-hander threw four scoreless innings on three hits, no walks, and four strikeouts.

Jacob Odle followed and pitched four shutout frames on just one hit with six strikeouts in relief of Hansen. Odle began his season with 5 ⅓ shutout innings in his first two outings. The 22-year-old also collected his first professional win.

Patrick Galle fanned two in a shutout ninth inning.

Palm Beach opened the scoring with three runs in the second. Brayden Smith walked and Ian Petrutz singled. Yordalin Peña followed with a single to bring Smith and Petrutz home and put the Cardinals in front 2-0. Cameron Nickens walked and Chase Heath singled to score Peña.

The Cardinals added a run in the third. Jack Gurevitch belted his first home run of the season and the second of his career, a solo shot, to extend the lead to 4-0.

Palm Beach stretched the lead to five with a run in the fourth. With two outs, Heath crushed his second home run of 2026, a solo shot.

The Cardinals padded the lead with a run in the sixth. Smith drew a leadoff walk and took second on a passed ball. Peña brought Smith home via a sacrifice fly.

Palm Beach pitching did not allow a hit with runners in scoring position in the win.

The Cardinals scored six runs on seven hits. Heath was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Gurevitch walked and hit a solo home run. Peña singled, scored a run, and drove in two. Smith drew two walks and scored twice.

On defense, catcher Heath committed a pickoff error. Pitcher Hansen picked a runner off first base.

Palm Beach is 7-2 following the sweep of Bradenton. They hold a three-game lead in the Florida State League East Division. They are off Monday as they head home to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium for a six-game series with the Jupiter Hammerheads, starting Tuesday.
