The Glendale Desert Dogs were routed by the Salt River Rafters by a score of 11-3. Miguel Ugueto went 2-for-4 with two RBI. D.J. Carpenter recorded one out and yielded two runs. Randel Clemente pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

Glendale Desert Dogs 3, Salt River Rafters 11
The Glendale Desert Dogs were routed by the Salt River Rafters in a home game played at Goodyear Ballpark on Sunday.
Three St. Louis Cardinals prospects played. Miguel Ugueto started in right field and batted sixth. D.J. Carpenter and Randel Clemente each took the mound in relief.
Ugueto was 2-for-4 with two RBI. He stepped into the batter’s box in the bottom of the first inning with the bases loaded and two outs, the Desert Dogs down 2-0, and lined a two-run single to tie the game. Ugeuto singled in the third inning with two outs but was picked off first base. The right-handed hitter struck out in the sixth and grounded into a double play in the eighth.
With two runs already in to break the tie in the top of the fourth inning, Carpenter was called upon in relief with two outs and a runner at second base. The right-hander issued a walk to his first hitter. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a passed ball, and a Carpenter wild pitch allowed the inherited runner to score.
Carpenter then surrendered a two-run home run and followed with his second free pass of the inning. He struck out the next batter looking for his first and only out recorded to close the frame with five runs in, of which two were his responsibility and another was by an inherited runner. Carpenter yielded one hit, a home run, two walks and struck out one. He threw 21 pitches, just 10 for strikes.
With the Dogs down 10-3 to open the eighth, Randel Clemente took the mound. He allowed a lead-off single and induced a flyout by the next batter. Following a challenge on a strike two pitch, Clemente recorded a backwards K. The right-hander secured the final out via a lineout for a scoreless inning of relief. Clemente allowed one hit, no walks, and a strikeout. He threw 21 pitches, 14 for strikes.
No other Cardinals appeared in the game.
Glendale is 3-6 on the season. They are off Monday and will play a doubleheader on Tuesday with the Surprise Saguaros, as the AFL makes up a portion of postponed games due to Tropical Storm Priscilla.
Tuesday’s games: at Surprise Saguaros. Pitching probables have not yet been announced for either game. Game one is scheduled for 3:30 PM CT, with game two to follow shortly after the conclusion of game one.
