Glendale Desert Dogs 1, Mesa Solar Sox 2 (7 innings)
The Glendale Desert Dogs lost a tight seven-inning home contest to the Mesa Solar Sox on Monday.
Two St. Louis Cardinals prospects participated in the contest. Travis Honeyman started in center field and hit seventh in the lineup. Tyler Bradt pitched in relief.
Honeyman was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI.
In his first at-bat in the bottom of the second inning, Honeyman flied out to right field. He came to the plate with a runner at second base and two outs in the fourth and hit a single to score the runner and tie the game at one apiece. Honeyman swiped second base but was unable to score.
In his final at-bat, the 24-year-old grounded out to the shortstop for the final out of the sixth inning.
Bradt took the mound in the top of the fourth inning with Glendale down 1-0.
The right-hander retired the first two hitters he faced on a groundout to second base and a lineout to right field, respectively. Bradt issued a walk and a single, but escaped the jam with a swinging strikeout on a 96mph fastball.
The 24-year-old came back out for the fifth inning and walked the first batter of the frame. After allowing the runner to steal second base, Bradt issued his third walk of the game. The right-hander threw a wild pitch to allow both runners to move to second base and third base with no outs. Bradt responded with a swinging strikeout. He then induced a groundball to allow his defense to throw a runner out at home plate. Bradt was then lifted for a fresh arm, who escaped the jam.
Bradt pitched 1 ⅔ scoreless innings on one hit, three walks, and two strikeouts. He threw 48 pitches, 27 for strikes.
No other Cardinals appeared in the contest.
