The Glendale Desert Dogs dropped a close contest to the Scottsdale Scorpions by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. Travis Honeyman was 0-for-2 with an RBI and Miguel Ugueto scored a run. Randel Clemente pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Graysen Tarlow was 1-for-3 plus a walk.

Glendale Desert Dogs 3 at Scottsdale Scorpions 5
The Glendale Desert Dogs dropped a tight contest to the Scottsdale Scorpions on Thursday.
Four St. Louis Cardinals prospects played. Travis Honeyman started in left field and hit second. Miguel Ugueto entered the game in the fifth inning for Honeyman. Graysen Tarlow started at catcher and batted ninth. Reliever Randel Clemente threw a scoreless inning.
Honeyman went 0-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base. With a runner at third base and nobody out in the top of the first, Honeyman grounded out in his first at-bat and was unable to bring the runner home.
In the third, Honeyman reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second base on the play via an error. Honeyman picked up an RBI as Tarlow scored on the play. He stole third base, but he was unable to cross home plate. The right-handed hitter was hit by a pitch in the fifth, and he was lifted for a pinch-runner in Ugueto.
Ugueto was 0-for-1 with a run scored. The outfielder entered in the fifth inning to run at second base for Honeyman and scored on a single for Glendale’s third run of the game. He grounded into a double play in the sixth and was hit by a pitch in the ninth but did not score. Ugeuto took over duties in left field for the final four innings.
Tarlow went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. The catcher hit a lead-off single in the third inning, his first at-bat of the game, and came around to score. Tarlow lined out in the fourth, walked in the sixth, and struck out in the eighth.
Clemente took the mound in the bottom of the eighth inning and retired the Scorpions in order. The right-hander recorded his first out via a flyout, the second on a lineout, and recorded a strikeout to end the frame. Clemente threw 12 pitches, six for strikes.
No other Cardinals saw action in the game.
Glendale is 2-4 on the season and will play the Surprise Saguaros on Friday. Chen-Wei Lin is slated to start for Glendale in his second AFL outing.
