The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield’s Brycen Mautz, allowed just two hits and fanned five across five scoreless innings. Other standouts include Luken Baker, Darlin Moquete, Trey Paige, Ryan Campos and Braden Davis.

Memphis Redbirds 2, Charlotte Knights 4
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds lost a close contest to the Charlotte Knights in Sunday’s series finale at AutoZone Park.
Zach Plesac started for the Redbirds. The right-hander pitched four innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on two hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Plesac took the loss and holds an 0-6 record through seven starts with Memphis.
Alex Cornwell struck out two in a scoreless inning in relief. Zack Weiss yielded a run but fanned four across two frames. Left-hander Oddanier Mosqueda tossed a scoreless eighth inning. Andre Granillo threw a shutout ninth.
The Redbirds scored a run in the first inning. Nathan Church drew a leadoff walk and stole second base. Luken Baker lined a single with Baker thrown out at second base on the play.

Charlotte plated three runs in the third and one in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. Memphis narrowed the gap to two runs in the home eighth. Luken Baker crushed his ninth home run of 2025, a solo shot, to conclude the scoring.

The Redbirds scored two runs on six hits. Baker went 2-for-2, including a solo home run for the team’s lone extra-base hit, a walk and two RBI. Michael Siani, Gavin Collins, Matt Koperniak, and Matt Lloyd singled.
On the bases, Siani swiped his 15th bag. Church stole his sixth.
On defense, pitcher Plesac committed a fielding error. Catcher Andy Yerzy made a throwing error.
Memphis is 47-44 overall, and 6-12 in the second half after dropping four of six to Charlotte. They reside in fourth place in the International League West Division and are seven games back of the lead.
The Redbirds have four days off for the All-Star Break and will begin a three-game weekend series with the Toledo Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio, on Friday.

Springfield Cardinals 9 at Corpus Christi Hooks 0
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals completed an impressive six-game sweep over the Hooks in Corpus Christi on Sunday to extend their winning streak to seven games.
Brycen Mautz made his 15th start for Springfield. The left-hander fired five scoreless innings on two hits, no walks, and five strikeouts. Mautz collected his third win of the season.
Osvaldo Berrios, Zane Mills, Austin Love, and Ricardo Velez combined for four shutout frames in relief to finish the game. The group combined to allow just three hits and one walk in protecting the shutout. Velez lowered his ERA to 1.31 following the scoreless outing.
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the third inning. Trey Paige blasted his third home run with Springfield, a solo shot.

Springfield extended the lead with a four-run fifth inning. Paige walked and moved to second base on an R.J. Yeager single. Darlin Moquete connected for a double to score Paige and Yeager. Moquete came around to score on the play via a throwing error.

Jordan Walker hit the second double of the inning. Leonardo Bernal followed with a single to put runners at the corners. Chase Davis lined a single to plate Walker for a 5-0 Springfield lead.
The Cardinals stretched the lead further with three runs in the sixth. Paige reached on a fielding error and advanced to third on a double from Yeager. Moquete walked to load the bases. Noah Mendlinger reached base on a throwing error, with Moquete to third base as Paige and Yeager came home to move the Cardinals ahead 7-0. Moquete scored on a double play ball from Walker for an 8-0 lead.
Springfield added a run in the seventh. Chase Davis began the frame with a ground-rule double. Joshua Baez legged out an infield single, with Davis home due to a throwing error for a 9-0 lead.
Springfield scored more runs (9) than hits allowed (5) in the dominant win. The Cardinals offense pounded out 13 hits. Moquete was 2-for-4, including a walk, a double, two runs scored, and two RBI. Davis was 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Yeager was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. Paige walked, hit a solo home run, and scored three runs. Mendlinger singled and drove in a run. Walker doubled.
The Cardinals did not record a stolen base.
On defense, catcher Carlos Linarez committed a fielding error after entering the game in the eighth inning.
Springfield is 56-31, and 13-5 in the second half following the six-game sweep of Corpus Christi. The Cardinals have won 13 of their last 15 contests and are 25 games over .500, a season high.

Peoria Chiefs 8, Cedar Rapids Kernels 10 (10 innings)
The High-A Peoria Chiefs dropped Sunday’s series finale at Dozer Park to the Cedar Rapids Kernels in extra innings.
Cade Winquest started for Peoria. The right-hander pitched 4 ⅓ innings and allowed three runs on four hits, one walk, and nine strikeouts, the latter tying his career high.

Michael Watson threw a scoreless fifth inning in relief. D.J. Carpenter yielded two runs across 1 ⅓ innings. Angel Gonzalez recorded just one out and surrendered three runs. Benjamin Arias threw a shutout frame and was charged with a blown save for allowing an inherited runner to score the tying run. Dionys Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth but allowed two runs in the 10th and took the loss.
The Chiefs struck first with a three-run first inning. Travis Honeyman walked and stole his first base with the Chiefs. Zach Levenson drew a walk. Ryan Campos scorched a double to score both runners.

The Chiefs widened the lead with a five-run third inning. Kross and Graysen Tarlow began with singles. Won-Bin Cho lined a double to plate Kross, with Tarlow to third base.

Michael Curialle walked. Tre Richardson hit into a forceout, with Tarlow scoring. Jon Jon Gazdar reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to third along with Curialle and Richardson scoring on the play via a throwing error.

Gazdar came home on a Brayden Jobert sacrifice fly to stretch the Peoria lead to 8-0.
From there, it was all downhill as the Peoria pen could not hold the huge lead. Cedar Rapids stormed back with three runs in the fifth, two in the seventh, and three in the eighth to tie the game at eight apiece.
The score remained deadlocked to force extra innings. The Kernels scored two runs in the 10th to take their first lead of the game at 10-8.
Gazdar started the home 10th at second base and advanced to third on a Jobert groundout. Levenson walked to put the tying runs at the corners. After a strikeout, Levenson was caught trying to steal second base to end the game.
The Chiefs scored eight runs on 11 hits. Campos was 3-for-6, including a double, a run scored, and two RBI. Cho walked, doubled, and drove in a run. Tarlow tallied three singles and two runs scored. Levenson singled twice and drew four walks. Jobert and Richardson each recorded one RBI.
On the basepaths, Honeyman swiped his first bag at the High-A level. Levenson stole his seventh and was caught stealing second base. Tarlow was also caught stealing second.
Defensively, shortstop Gazdar committed a fielding error. Jobert nailed a runner at home plate from left field. The Chiefs turned two double plays.
Peoria is 35-51 overall, and 9-12 in the second half following their seventh consecutive loss. They reside in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division but are just 3.5 games back of a first-place tie.
The Chiefs are off for the All-Star Break and will resume on Friday with a three-game set against the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa.

Palm Beach Cardinals vs. Dunedin Blue Jays (suspended)
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals’ series finale with the Dunedin Blue Jays at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium was suspended in the top of the fifth inning on Sunday due to inclement weather. When the game resumes, Dunedin will be batting with a runner at second base and two outs in the fifth.
The Cardinals announced that the game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on August 5 in Dunedin, as the Blue Jays do not return to Roger Dean for the remainder of the season.

Braden Davis started for Palm Beach. The left-hander pitched 4 ⅔ scoreless innings on one hit, one walk, and six strikeouts before the game was suspended.
Palm Beach recorded four hits, all singles. Yordalin Pena had a 2-for-2 start at the plate. Chrsitian Martin and Jonathan Mejia each recorded a hit.
Palm Beach is 40-44 overall and 8-11 in the second half. They reside in third place in the Florida State League East Division, 5.5 games back of first place.
The Cardinals are off for the All-Star Break and will continue the season on Friday with a three-game road set at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida, with the St. Lucie Mets.
Friday’s game: at St. Lucie (NYM). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 PM CT.
FCL Cardinals (off-day)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals are off Sunday and Monday, as they prepare for a doubleheader with the FCL Astros on Tuesday. The Cardinals will serve as the road team for game one and the home team for game two.
The Cardinals enter the week coming off a 5-4 victory over the FCL Astros on the road on Saturday.
The FCL Cardinals are 19-28 on the season. They reside in fourth place in the FCL East Division and are eliminated from playoff contention.
Tuesday’s games: at FCL Astros. Pitching probables have not yet been announced for either game. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 9:00 AM CT. Game two is slated to follow shortly after the conclusion of game one.
DSL Cardinals (off-day)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals were off Sunday, as they prepare for a home contest with DSL LAD Mega on Monday.
The Cardinals will look to get back on track after being shut out by the DSL Mets on Saturday.
The DSL Cardinals are 16-14 on the season and are tied with the DSL Marlins for first place in the DSL Southeast Division.
Monday’s game: vs. DSL LAD Mega. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 AM CT.
