The Glendale Desert Dogs fell to the Surprise Saguaros in Sunday’s AFL action. Miguel Ugueto collected a hit to bring his batting average to .327. D.J. Carpenter pitched the seventh inning in relief.

Glendale Desert Dogs 1, Surprise Saguaros 9 (Game one, 7 innings)
The Glendale Desert Dogs fell to the Surprise Saguaros in a seven-inning contest on Sunday.
Two St. Louis Cardinals prospects participated in the game. Miguel Ugueto started in right field and batted seventh. D.J. Carpenter pitched the seventh inning out of the bullpen.
Ugueto was 1-for-3 in the game.
In his first at-bat in the bottom of the second inning, Ugueto stepped to the plate with a man on first base and one out and grounded into an inning-ending double play. He came to the plate in the fourth with runners at first and second with one away and grounded into a forceout as Ugueto reached first to thwart the double play attempt.
The right-handed hitter came up to bat in the sixth with one away and runners at first and second and lined a sharp single to load the bases, though back-to-back strikeouts left all three runners on base. Ugueto is batting .327 in the Arizona Fall League. On defense, he committed a throwing error.
Carpenter took the mound in the top of the seventh and the final inning with Glendale down 7-1.
The right-hander retired his first two hitters on a groundout to the shortstop and a popout to the catcher. He then issued a walk and a single to put runners at the corners.
Carpenter yielded a second consecutive single which brought one Saguaro home, with a second scoring on the play via a throwing error. The 25-year-old secured a swinging strikeout on three pitches to end the frame. Carpenter threw one inning and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout. He threw 14 pitches, eight for strikes, and holds an AFL ERA of 10.80.
No other Cardinals saw action in the game.
Glendale Desert Dogs vs. Surprise Saguaros (canceled)
The second game on the schedule for the Desert Dogs and Saguaros for Sunday was canceled.
Glendale is 6-15 on the season. They are off on Monday and will play a home contest with the Peoria Javelinas on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Peoria Javelinas. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 PM CT.
