The St. Louis Cardinals system went 0-5 on Sunday as the pitching yielded 43 runs. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield OF Justin Toerner, had three hits including a home run, a walk, four RBI and an outfield assist. Other standouts include Paul DeJong, Chase Pinder and Jake Burns.

Memphis 8 at Nashville 10

The Memphis Redbirds (50-40) were topped by the Nashville Sounds (MIL, 54-35) at First Horizon Park on Sunday.

Matthew Liberatore tossed six innings and gave up five runs on nine hits and two walks. The left-hander fanned six.

The Redbirds scored five runs in the third inning. Ben DeLuzio plated two with a double and Paul DeJong brought across one. Luken Baker added another run with a double. In the fifth, DeJong hit a solo shot, his 14th for Memphis. Clint Coulter and Delvin Pérez hit back-to-back solo home runs in the sixth to take what looked to be a comfortable 8-1 lead.

However, Memphis yielded nine runs in the sixth through eighth innings – five charged to Liberatore and five to James Naile. The 29-year-old reliever surrendered five runs on four hits and two walks and took his third loss in Memphis.

DeJong is heating up with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Baker and Pérez both had two hits. The lineup went 4-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Pérez, Irving Lopez and DeLuzio all stole a bag.

The Redbirds went 4-2 against first place Nashville this week and are 4.5 games back of the Sounds.

Springfield 14, Tulsa 16

The Springfield Cardinals (10-8) were topped by the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 7-11) at Hammons Field on Sunday night. Every Cardinals pitcher yielded at least one run.

The game was tied at 3-3 after the second inning. In the first, Matt Koperniak scored a run. Nick Raposo and Justin Toerner each plated a run in the second.

Michael McGreevy tossed just three innings and gave up three runs on three hits and two walks. Michael Brettell threw 1 2/3 innings and was charged with three runs. Johan Quezada pitched 1 1/3 innings and surrendered one run.

In the fifth, the Cardinals scored six runs to take a 9-7 lead. Nick Dunn doubled to plate one. Chase Pinder scored on an error and Roberto Baldoquin brought a run across. Raposo scored on a wild pitch and Justin Toerner hit a two-run homer, his second of the season. Toerner scored another run in the seventh and Pinder plated two.

The lead was lost as Leonardo Taveras yielded five runs in 1 1/3 innings. Domingo Robles took his fourth loss of the season and gave up four runs in the final 1 2/3 innings.

The Cardinals tried to stage a late comeback in the ninth inning. After Koperniak reached, Pinder hit a two-run home run, his eighth of the year. With the tying run at the plate, Malcom Nunez struck out and Chandler Redmond grounded into a double play.

The Springfield lineup recorded 16 hits and 11 walks but could not win the game. Toerner had three hits, one walk, four RBI and two runs scored. Pinder went 2-for-4 with two walks, two runs scored and four RBI. Dunn had two hits and four walks. The lineup went 7-for-20 with runners in scoring position.

Mike Antico took two bases for a total of 50 stolen bags between Peoria and Springfield and is 13-for-13 at Double-A. Toerner recorded an outfield assist.

Springfield went 4-2 against Tulsa this week and are one game back of first place Wichita.

Peoria 1, South Bend 3

The Peoria Chiefs (7-14) fell to the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 15-6) on Sunday at Dozer Park.

Starter Dionys Rodriguez tossed three innings with one run surrendered on three hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Nathanael Heredia pitched three innings with a run yielded on three hits. The left-hander fanned three and recorded his third loss.

After the Cubs scored one in the third, Brady Whalen plated Ramon Mendoza to tie the game at 1-1. South Bend scored a run in each of the fifth and eighth innings.

Chris Roycroft recorded a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Gianluca Dalatri yielded a run in the eighth inning and Colin Schmid pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

With the tying run at the plate in the ninth, the Chiefs struck out three times in three at-bats to end the game.

Mendoza had two hits, the only Chief with multiples. The lineup drew just one walk and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

The Chiefs went 2-4 against the Cubbies this week and are eight games back of first place.

Palm Beach 7, Lakeland 8 (Game 1, 7 innings)

The Palm Beach Cardinals (12-8) were edged by the Lakeland Flying Tigers (8-11) at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday morning in Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Starter Alex Cornwell tossed four innings with six runs yielded on nine hits and one walk. The left-hander took his third loss of the season.

After the Flying Tigers scored four runs in the first, the Beach Birds plated one in each the second and third innings. Elijah Cabell hit a solo shot in the second, his fourth of the year. Lizandro Espinoza scored one in the third.

Bryan Pope pitched a scoreless two innings with three strikeouts. Chris Holba surrendered two runs in the seventh inning.

The Cardinals tried to stage a late comeback in the final two innings but fell short. In the sixth, Darlin Moquete, Leonardo Bernal and Mora each drove in a run but Lakeland added two more in the top of the seventh. In the home half, Thomas Francisco hit a two-run homer, his first in 2022 for Palm Beach, but the lineup could not score again.

The Cardinals went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Bernal went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Cabell went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and one RBI.

Palm Beach 5, Lakeland 6 (Game 2, 8 innings)

The Palm Beach Cardinals (12-9) fell to the Lakeland Flying Tigers (DET, 9-11) at
Roger Dean Stadium in Game 2 of the Sunday doubleheader. This was a makeup game from Saturday, July 16th.

Inohan Paniagua tossed three innings and gave up three runs on six hits and two strikeouts. Jack Ralston recorded a scoreless two innings with two strikeouts.

After the Flying Tigers were up by three, the Beach Birds staged a late comeback, only to fall short again. In the seventh, Patrick Romeri plated two with a double. Sander Mora tied the game with an RBI double and the contest went into extra innings.

After Lakeland scored three in the top of the eighth, Palm Beach could only answer with two in the home half. Francisco plated two with an RBI double to make the score 6-5.

Gustavo Rodriguez pitched two scoreless innings and fanned three batters. Nelfri Contreras gave up three runs, two earned, on two hits and one walk in the eighth inning. The left-hander took his second loss this season.

The lineup went 6-for-11 with runners in scoring position and struck out 10 times in eight innings. Jake Burns went 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. Francisco and Romeri each plated two runs.

The Cardinals went 3-3 against the Tigers this week and are in first place by one game.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 5-1 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, MLB Futures Game invitee Masyn Winn, had three hits, a walk, three RBI, four runs and two stolen bases for Springfield. Other standouts include Irving Lopez, Thomas Francisco and Jose Cordoba.

Memphis 19 at Nashville 4

The Memphis Redbirds (49-38) destroyed the Nashville Sounds (MIL, 52-34) at First Horizon Park on Thursday. Every player in the lineup either came across or drove in a run.

10 of the 19 runs came in the first three innings. Scott Hurst scored on a wild pitch in the first and Moisés Gómez hit a three-run homer, his third with Memphis. In the second, Scott Hurst and Paul DeJong hit home runs for an 8-0 lead. Irving Lopez added two more in the fourth with a two-run shot.

Jake Woodford tossed five scoreless frames with only three hits given up. The right-hander struck out five and earned his first 2022 win for the Redbirds. James Naile yielded a run in 1 1/3 innings and Kyle Ryan tossed a scoreless 1 2/3 innings.

The Redbirds added nine more runs in the final three innings. Delvin Pérez tripled to score two in the seventh. In the eighth, Luken Baker and Iván Herrera both plated a run. Memphis capped off the night with a five run ninth. Paul DeJong hit a three-run homer, his second of the night. Herrera and Lopez both drove in a run to take a 19-1 lead.

Jacob Bosiokovic surrendered a run in 1/3 of an inning and Zach McAllister was touched for two runs in the final 2/3 of an inning.

The lineup had 23 hits, five walks and five home runs. Hurst, Gómez and Lopez all had four hits and three RBI. DeJong went 2-for-5 with a walk, two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored.

The Redbirds have won the first three over the Sounds this week and are 3.5 games back of first place.

Friday’s game: at Nashville, RHP Tommy Parsons (6-2, 4.26) vs. RHP Alec Bettinger (1-4, 6.68) 7:05 CT

Springfield 13, Tulsa 5

The Springfield Cardinals (9-6) crushed the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 5-10) at Hammons Field on Thursday night. Every player was on base at least once.

Starter Kyle Leahy recorded his sixth win despite giving up all five runs in five innings. The right-hander yielded seven hits, three walks and five strikeouts.

After the Drillers scored one in the first, the Cardinals responded with two in the home half. Masyn Winn and Chase Pinder each drove in a run.

Tulsa answered back with four runs in the second but Springfield added four in the bottom half of the inning. Winn doubled to plate two and Jordan Walker singled to score two.

In the fourth, Mike Antico hit a solo shot, his first in Springfield. Walker grounded out and Winn came across to take an 8-5 lead.

Domingo Robles tossed a scoreless three innings with two hits and three strikeouts. Leonardo Taveras pitched the ninth with no damage done. The right-hander has a scoreless 2 2/3 innings since he was promoted to Springfield.

The Cardinals added three runs in the sixth. Julio Rodriguez and Jonah Davis hit back-to-back home runs to start the inning. Malcom Nunez plated Winn to take an 11-5 lead. Walker hit a solo shot in the eighth, his eighth of the year. Rodriguez scored one more via sacrifice fly.

The top three spots in the lineup did most of the damage for Springfield as they had seven RBI and eight runs. Antico went 1-for-2 with three walks, a home run, three runs scored and a stolen bag. Winn had three hits, a walk, three RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases. Walker went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a home run.

The Cardinals are in first place in the Texas League North and have a four-game win streak.

Peoria 1, South Bend 5

The Peoria Chiefs (5-13) fell to the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 14-4) at Dozer Park on Thursday. The lineup only recorded two hits.

Starter Austin Love surrendered five runs in five innings on five hits and one walk. The right-hander fanned eight and took his eighth loss. Nathanael Heredia tossed a scoreless two innings with two strikeouts. Gianluca Dalatri struck out three batters in two scoreless innings.

The only Chiefs run came in the second inning after the Cubs scored all five runs. L.J. Jones blasted a solo shot, his seventh of the year. The Chiefs had the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning but Osvaldo Tovalin could not bring any across.

The lineup left four runners on base and struck out 10 times. Jacob Buchberger and Jones recorded the only hits. Brady Whalen and Francisco Hernandez struck out three times each.

The Chiefs are tied for last place in the Midwest League West, nine games back of South Bend.

Palm Beach 7, Lakeland 5

The Palm Beach Cardinals (11-7) topped the Lakeland Flying Tigers (7-10) at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday.

Carlos Guarate tossed six innings with two runs given up on four hits and one walk. The 21-year-old struck out eight and earned his fourth win.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the fifth inning. Jhon Torres singled to plate one and Thomas Francisco doubled to clear the loaded bases. Three more runs were scored in the seventh. Matt Chamberlain recorded an RBI triple and Francisco drove in his fourth of the game. Patrick Romeri singled to plate one and take a 7-3 lead.

Roy Garcia yielded a run in two innings pitched. Nelfri Contreras gave up two runs in the ninth inning. The left-hander surrendered three hits and two strikeouts.

The lineup had nine hits and four walks. Chamberlain, Francisco and Torres recorded two hits each. Francisco had four RBI and a run scored. The left-hander is batting .571 in four games since returning to Palm Beach.

Sander Mora took his seventh base of the year.

The Beach Birds are tied for first with the St. Lucie Mets in the Florida State League East.

FCL Cardinals 3 at FCL Mets 2 (Game 1, 8 innings)

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (12-14) edged the Mets (16-11) at St. Lucie Sports Complex in Game 1 of a scheduled doubleheader.

Starter Yonael Dominguez tossed 4 1/3 innings with two runs surrendered on three hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Ludwin Jimenez took the remainder of the fifth inning with no damage done. Brayan Ramirez pitched a scoreless sixth inning with one hit, one walk and a strikeout.

The Cardinals struck first as Jose Cordoba hit a leadoff home run in the first inning, his fourth of the season. They went down 2-1 in the fifth. Jeremy Ramos plated Cordoba in the sixth to tie the game. In the eighth, Cordoba drove in the go-ahead run via sacrifice fly.

Randel Clemente earned his first win after a hitless 1 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. Victor Villanueva saved his first game of the season after he struck out the last batter in the eighth inning.

Cordoba was involved with every run after he went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Samil De La Rosa also recorded two hits. The lineup went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

FCL Cardinals 0, FCL Mets 9 (Game 2, suspended in the fourth inning)

In a makeup from June 30th, the Cardinals and Mets contest was suspended in the fourth inning due to lightning and will be completed on July 29th.

In the partial game that was played, the pitching surrendered nine runs and De La Rosa recorded the only Cardinal hit. Alejandro Cervantes only lasted 1 1/3 innings with two runs given up on four hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Augusto Calderon yielded five runs in 2/3 of an inning. Two runs were charged to Wilmer Ortega in 1 2/3 innings.

The Cardinals are 7.5 games behind the first place Nationals in the FCL East.

DSL Cardinals 8, DSL Mariners 6

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (16-15) beat the Mariners (16-13) on Thursday afternoon.

Starter Nelfy Ynfante tossed 4 2/3 innings with a run surrendered on four hits and five strikeouts. Juan Severino gave up two runs in 2/3 of an inning.

The Cardinals and Mariners traded runs in the first inning. Yordalin Pena plated one via sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Yancel Guerrero scored on a wild pitch. Elias Reynoso walked with the bases loaded in the sixth to tie the game 3-3. Guerrero was hit by a pitch to score one and Miguel Vargas came across on a wild pitch.

Samuel Fabian yielded three runs in 1 2/3 innings on three hits and one walk. Bruno Lopez threw the final two scoreless innings and earned his second win this year.

After the Mariners took a 6-5 lead in the eighth, the Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom half. Jonathan Mejia scored a run to tie the game. Two runs came across on a forceout and a throwing error by the opposing catcher.

Mejia went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Guerrero went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. The lineup had five hits and eight walks.

Miguel Vargas, Arfeni Batista, Elias Reynoso, Guerrero, Mejia and Jose Suarez all took one bag. Suarez attempted to steal home but was caught.

The Cardinals are five games back of first place Colorado in the DSL South.

After the Marlins scored one in the eighth, the Cardinals responded with two in the home half. Felix Taveras and Brandon Hernandez got on, then Adari Grant tripled to plate both.

The Cardinals only recorded four hits and went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Grant recorded the only RBI for the Cardinals. The pitchers were remarkable on Monday and kept the Cardinals in the game.

The Cardinals sit in fifth place and are six games back of the Nationals in the FCL East.

Starter Darlin Saladin gave up an unearned run in five innings and earned his first win. The right-hander yielded three hits, three walks and nine strikeouts. Esteban Contreras surrendered two runs in 2/3 of an inning on two hits, two walks and one strikeout.

Maikel Hernandez doubled to drive in two runs in the fourth inning. In the sixth, Alejandro Loaiza and Anyelo Encarnacion both singled to plate one to extend the lead to 4-1. Yaisel Ramos added one more run in the seventh.

The lineup had 13 hits and five runs. Arfeni Batista had three hits and a run scored. Every player in the lineup was on base at least once in the contest.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis left fielder Scott Hurst, went 4-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Other standouts include Aaron Brooks, Masyn Winn and Luis Rodriguez.

Memphis 5 at Durham 1

The Memphis Redbirds (46-38) beat the Durham Bulls (TB, 45-39) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Sunday.

Aaron Brooks tossed six scoreless innings with five hits and one walk surrendered. The right-hander fanned nine and earned his fourth win.

The Redbirds scored their first run in the fourth inning as Alec Burleson recorded an RBI. In the sixth, Moisés Gómez drove in a run and Burleson doubled to add another one. Scott Hurst plated one with a double in the seventh. Hurst brought in another run in the ninth.

James Naile pitched two innings and gave up a run on a hit and two walks. Freddy Pacheco tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

Hurst went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Ben DeLuzio recorded two hits and came across twice. The lineup struck out 15 times but still recorded nine hits and four walks.

DeLuzio stole his 22nd bag of the year and Hurst took his eighth.

The Redbirds went 3-3 against the Bulls this week. They are 6.5 games back of Nashville.

Springfield 4 at Arkansas 1

The Springfield Cardinals (6-6) topped the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 7-5) at Dickey-Stephens Park on Sunday afternoon. Jordan Walker had the day off.

Edgar Escobar tossed six innings with a run yielded on two hits. The right-hander struck out four and earned his fifth win.

Mike Antico singled to bring in a run in the third inning to take a1-0 lead. The Travelers responded with a run in the fourth. In the sixth, Nick Raposo hit a two-run homer. Nick Dunn added one more in the seventh.

Tyler Pike threw a scoreless two innings with two walks and three strikeouts. Logan Gragg closed out the game and earned his first save.

The lineup went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Masyn Winn and Julio Rodriguez recorded two hits apiece. Malcom Nunez left eight runners on base and Chase Pinder went 1-for-2 with three walks.

Winn stole his eighth bag for Springfield.

The Cardinals went 3-3 against the Travelers this week and are one game back of Arkansas.

Peoria 5, Beloit 6

The Peoria Chiefs (5-10) fell to the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 8-7) on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park.

Wilfredo Pereira tossed five innings with three runs given up on three hits, one walk and three strikeouts. St. Louis right-hander Drew VerHagen made another rehab appearance and yielded an unearned run in two innings.

The Chiefs scored all five runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Luis Rodriguez and Tommy Jew both plated one in the seventh. L.J. Jones hit a two-run shot in the eighth, his sixth of the year. Noah Mendlinger tied the game at 5-5 with a solo homer, the first of his professional career.

Nathanael Heredia gave up a run in the eighth inning. The Sky Carp scored the go-ahead run off Nick Trogrlic-Iverson in the ninth. The right-hander surrendered two hits and took his third loss.

The lineup went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base. Rodriguez had three of the seven Chiefs hits. Jacob Buchberger and Francisco Hernandez struck out three times each.

Peoria went 2-4 against Beloit this week and is six games back of first place South Bend.

Palm Beach 4 at Jupiter 7

The Palm Beach Cardinals (9-6) were defeated by the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA, 8-7) at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday.

Starter Alex Cornwell tossed five innings with six runs, four earned, yielded on eight hits. The left-hander fanned four and took his second loss. Chris Gerard gave up a hit and a walk but fanned three in one inning.

The Beach Birds scored all four runs in the third inning. Matt Chamberlain plated one and Patrick Romeri hit a three-run homer to take a 4-3 lead. Jupiter answered with three runs in the home half, however.

Jose Moreno surrendered a run in 1 2/3 innings on four hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Alfredo Ruiz struck out a batter in 1/3 of an inning.

Leonardo Bernal had two of the six Cardinal hits. The lineup went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and struck out nine times.

Jesus Orecchia, Sander Mora and Lizandro Espinoza all committed an error.

Palm Beach went 2-4 against Jupiter this week but remain in first place in the Florida State League East.

Memphis 9 at Durham 2

The Memphis Redbirds (45-38) topped the Durham Bulls (TB, 45-38) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday, snapping their three-game losing skid.

Starter Jake Woodford pitched two scoreless innings with one hit, two walks and two strikeouts. In a rehab assignment from St. Louis, T.J. McFarland tossed a 1-2-3 inning with one strikeout.

In the second inning, Luken Baker and Cory Spangenberg hit solo home runs. The Redbirds added on two more in the fifth after Alec Burleson and Clint Coulter both singled. Scott Hurst drove in a run in the sixth.

Thomas Parsons won his team-high sixth game after giving up two runs in 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander yielded three hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Zach McAllister closed out the final 1 1/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

Memphis added four more runs in the eighth inning. Irving Lopez doubled to plate one and Moisés Gómez brought across one via sacrifice fly. Burleson hit an RBI double and Baker closed out the inning with an RBI single.

The Redbirds recorded 14 hits and five walks. Coulter had three hits and five other players had two. Burleson and Baker both recorded two RBI. Hurst and Evan Mendoza came across twice each.

Mendoza took his 11th bag of 2022. Hurst recorded an outfield assist after he threw out a runner at home.

Springfield 2 at Arkansas 5

The Springfield Cardinals (5-6) lost to the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 7-4) on Saturday at Dickey-Stephens Park. TCN’s no. 3 prospect, Masyn Winn, had the night off.

Starter Connor Lunn gave up five runs in four innings on seven hits, two walks and four strikeouts. The right-hander took his fourth loss of the season. In his first game back with Springfield, Griffin Roberts tossed a scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout.

In the fifth, Mike Antico plated Roberto Baldoquin with a single. Aaron Antonini scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.

Dalton Roach and Michael Brettell closed out the last three innings. Roach threw a perfect two innings before Brettell yielded two hits in the final frame.

Antico and Baldoquin had two hits apiece. The lineup went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times.

Antico recorded an outfield assist and Baldoquin committed a fielding error.

Peoria 1, Beloit 6

The Peoria Chiefs (5-9) fell to the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 7-7) at Dozer Park on Saturday night.

Starter Zane Mills gave up four runs on 13 hits in 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander fanned three and took his fifth loss with Peoria. Enmanuel Solano surrendered two runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. Andre Granillo tossed a scoreless two innings.

The only Chiefs run came off the bat of Todd Lott in the sixth inning. The right fielder drove in Tommy Jew via groundout.

The lineup went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and recorded only five hits. No player recorded a multi-hit game. The defense turned three double plays.

Jew stole his 20th bag of the year and Reichenborn recorded an outfield assist. The opposing DH went 5-for-5 with three RBI.

Palm Beach 7 at Jupiter 8

The Palm Beach Cardinals (9-5) were edged by the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA, 7-7) at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday night. Every Cardinal pitcher gave up at least one run.

Trent Baker yielded five runs in five innings on five hits and three walks. The right-hander fanned five. Jack Ralston tossed two innings and yielded one run, two hits and three strikeouts.

After the Hammerheads scored four runs in the first, the Beach Birds plated all seven runs in the fifth through seventh innings. Jhon Torres scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. Jesus Orecchia plated one and Darlin Moquete scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. In the seventh, Aaron McKeithan and Moquete both scored one. Torres hit a two-run double to take the lead 7-6.

Roy Garcia pitched the eighth inning and yielded two runs on two hits and three walks. The right-hander took his second loss and third blown save.

Patrick Romeri and Torres recorded multi-hit games. Torres had one walk, two hits, a run scored and two RBI. The lineup went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

Moquete stole his third bag of the year.

Sunday’s game: at Jupiter, LHP Alex Cornwell (3-1, 3.86) vs. TBA 11:00 CT

FCL Cardinals 1 at FCL Marlins 2

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (10-13) lost to the Marlins (14-10) on Saturday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium.

Starter Hancel Rincon tossed five innings with two runs surrendered in the first. The 20-year-old fanned five and took his third loss. The rest of the pitching did not give up any runs. Augusto Calderon pitched 1 1/3 innings with three hits and one strikeout yielded. Edwin Nunez threw a hitless 2/3 of an inning and Victor Villanueva recorded a scoreless eighth inning.

The only Cardinal run came off the bat of Luis Pino in the sixth inning. The 18-year-old singled to plate one.

The lineup struck out 17 times and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Adari Grant and Francis Reynoso struck out three times each.

Jeremy Ramos came across once and stole his third bag of the season.

DSL Cardinals 4, DSL D-Backs 5 (7 innings)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (12-15) fell to the D-Backs (18-7) on Saturday morning. Only seven innings were played.

Starter Leonel Sequera pitched three innings and surrendered an unearned run. The 16-year-old fanned three batters. Samuel Fabian tossed one inning with three runs, two earned, given up on two walks and one strikeout.

The Cardinals scored three of their four runs in the first inning. Justin Guerrero plated one via sacrifice fly. Yordalin Pena and Arfeni Batista both singled to drive in a run to take a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, Jonathan Mejia hit a solo home run, the first of his professional career.

Miguel Martinez took his first loss of the season in two innings pitched. The right-hander yielded a solo homer and struck out two. Juan Severino closed out the game with a scoreless inning.

The Cardinals had six hits, two walks and went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position. No player had more than one hit. Yancel Guerrero struck out three times in three at-bats.

Yordalin Pena stole his fourth bag of the year. Justin Guerrero, Mejia and Batista all committed an error.

Memphis 7 at Durham 8 (10 innings)

The Memphis Redbirds (44-37) fell to the Durham Bulls (TB, 44-37) in extra innings at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Steven Matz started on a rehab assignment from St. Louis. The left-hander tossed 3 1/3 innings with two runs yielded on two hits, one walk and four strikeouts.

Regular starter Connor Thomas relieved Matz and threw four innings with three runs surrendered. The lefty fanned seven in his outing. Zach McAllister gave up a run in 1/3 of an inning.

After the Bulls scored two in the fourth, The Redbirds were trading runs with the opposition from the sixth through 10th innings. In the seventh, Moisés Gómez hit a solo shot, his 25th of the season and second in Memphis. Luken Baker hit a two-run homer to take a 3-2 lead until the Bulls responded with one in the home half.

Scott Hurst hit a two-run home run in the eighth but the Bulls scored three in the bottom half after two walks and two hit by pitches from McAllister. Memphis responded in the top of the ninth after Pedro Pages hit a solo shot to tie the game 6-6.

In the 10th, Ben DeLuzio brought in Delvin Pérez via sacrifice fly but the Bulls won the game in the bottom half.

Freddy Pacheco threw a scoreless 1 1/3 innings. Grant Black was charged with two runs, one earned, on two hits in the 10th inning and took the loss.

Pages had three hits and a solo homer. Gómez went 2-for-3 with two walks and a home run. Baker and Evan Mendoza also had two hits. Gómez still leads the MiLB in home runs with 25 between Springfield and Memphis.

Corey Dickerson went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in a rehab assignment.

Gómez and Pérez both stole a bag and Mendoza was picked off.

Friday’s game: at Durham, RHP Angel Rondon (3-1, 4.04) vs. RHP Kevin Gerget, 5:35 CT

Springfield 6 at Arkansas 5 (10 innings)

The Springfield Cardinals (4-5, second half) were walked off by the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 6-3) on Thursday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Gordon Graceffo tossed 5 1/3 innings with four runs yielded on six hits and three walks. The right-hander fanned five. Tyler Pike gave up one run on three hits and three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

By the sixth inning, the Cardinals were down 5-0 but staged a late comeback. In the eighth, Malcom Nunez cleared the loaded bases to make it a two-run deficit. Nick Raposo and Justin Toerner both scored in the ninth to tie the game at 5-5.

In his first game for Springfield, Leonardo Taveras threw a scoreless 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout and three walks. Dalton Roach surrendered the game-winning run in the 10th inning and took his sixth loss.

The lineup went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position and struck out 13 times. Raposo recorded the only multi-hit game with two. Nunez went 1-for-3 with two walks and three RBI.

Mike Antico and Nunez both stole a base.

Peoria 3, Beloit 1

The Peoria Chiefs (4-8, 2H) topped the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 6-6) at Dozer Park on Thursday.

Edgar Manzo threw a no-hitter into the sixth inning but surrendered a solo home run in the seventh. The right-hander struck out five and earned his first win in Peoria. Gianluca Dalatri pitched three hitless innings with six strikeouts and saved his fourth game.

In the first inning, Jacob Buchberger hit a solo home run, his second of the year. The second baseman came across on an error in the fourth inning. Brady Whalen scored Todd Lott in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead before the Sky Carp hit a solo home run in the seventh.

Buchberger went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Manzo and Dalatri struck out a combined 11 batters and gave up only one hit.

Buchberger and Tyler Reichenborn both stole a bag.

Friday’s game: vs. Beloit, RHP Austin Love (4-7, 6.72) vs. LHP Dax Fulton (2-5, 5.16) 6:35 CT

Palm Beach 3 at Jupiter 4

The Palm Beach Cardinals (9-3, 2H) were edged by the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA, 5-7) at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday.

Carlos Guarate took his second loss after yielding two runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Jose Moreno threw two innings with two runs surrendered on four hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Andrew Marrero pitched a scoreless 2/3 of an inning.

Adanson Cruz scored on a wild pitch in the sixth but the Hammerheads scored four runs in the next three innings. The Beach Birds tried to stage a ninth-inning comeback but fell short. Elijah Cabell hit a two-run home run but the Cardinals could not get any more across.

The lineup recorded only four hits and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Cabell came in as a pinch hitter in the ninth and hit a two-run homer.

Cruz recorded an outfield assist in the first inning and Aaron McKeithan was picked off.

FCL Cardinals 9 at FCL Astros Orange 3

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (9-12) topped the Astros Orange (11-9) on Thursday at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. Starter Yonael Dominguez tossed five innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits and no walks. The right-hander fanned five and earned his second win.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the first two innings. Fernando Diaz plated two and Samil De La Rosa drove in one with a double in the first. Romtres Cabrera came across in the second on a stolen base attempt and an interference error by the third baseman. Jose Cordoba hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning, his third of the year.

In the sixth, Cordoba scored on an error for the second time. Carlos Linarez hit a solo shot, his first of the season.

Wilmer Ortega surrendered an unearned run on two hits in the sixth inning. Edwin Nunez and Brayan Ramirez both tossed a scoreless inning. Randel Clemente closed out the game with a hitless frame.

The lineup went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times but found a way to win. Cordoba went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Lizandro Espinoza, Fernando Diaz, Romtres Cabrera and Linarez all recorded two hits.

Cabrera stole two bags and Cordoba took one.

In the field, Diaz, Espinoza and Raul Guzman all committed an error.

Friday’s game: vs. FCL Astros Orange, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT

DSL Cardinals 18, DSL Giants Black 4

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (12-13) destroyed the Giants (10-13) on Thursday and was highlighted by an 11-run sixth inning.

Nelfy Ynfante tossed five innings and surrendered one run on three hits and four walks. The 17-year-old fanned seven and earned his third win.

Yancel Guerrero plated two in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Yordalin Pena and Justin Guerrero both scored on errors.

The Cardinals scored 11 runs in the sixth. Anyelo Encarnacion tripled to score one and Jonathan Mejia brought a run across. Maycol Justo and Mejia both scored on an error. Pena came across on a wild pitch and Carlos Carmona drove in one. Yaisel Ramos scored on an error and another wild pitch scored Carmona. Justo plated one and Pena cleared the loaded bases with a triple.

Jovi Galvez tossed a scoreless sixth inning. Bruno Lopez gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks in three innings.

Two more wild pitches scored Batista and Carmona in the seventh to make it an 18-1 game.

The Giants committed four errors and seven wild pitches. With the 18 runs that came across, the lineup drove in 10 of them. Yancel Guerrero and Pena both drove in three runs and Ramos came across three times. Every starter in the game scored at least once.

Batista stole his first bag of the year.

Mejia, Justin Guerrero and Pena each committed an error. Carmona recorded an outfield assist.

Moisés Gómez hit an RBI double and Burleson drove in another run on an opposite field single. Luken Baker’s two-run home run, deep to left-center, his 13^th, extended the lead to 6-3.

Freddy Pacheco yielded a run in 1 2/3 innings and Zach McAllister earned his second save after he secured the final two outs.

Springfield 4 at Arkansas 13

The Springfield Cardinals (34-42) were walloped by the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 41-35) on Monday at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Edgar Escobar threw four innings with seven runs surrendered on eight hits and four walks. The right-hander struck out four and took his fourth loss. Michael YaSenka yielded three runs in two innings.

Chase Pinder hit a home run in the second, a solo shot. The left fielder added a three-run homer in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-4. The Cardinals could not score further after the sixth.

John Beller yielded three runs in the seventh inning on two hits and two strikeouts. Tyler Pike tossed a scoreless eighth.

Jordan Walker had two hits. Pinder recorded two home runs and four RBI. The Travelers had 18 runners in scoring position in the contest.

The Peoria Chiefs (31-45) were topped by the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 36-39) at Dozer Park on Monday.

Starter Wilfredo Pereira threw six innings with two runs, one earned, yielded on five hits and one walk. The right-hander fanned nine batters.

Todd Lott hit a leadoff home run in the first inning and added another solo homer in the third, his fifth with Peoria. Francisco Hernandez added another run in the fourth.

The pen failed the Chiefs as Enmanuel Solano gave up three runs in 1/3 of an inning and Leonardo Taveras surrendered two runs in 1 2/3 innings. Chris Roycroft only pitched 2/3 of an inning with four runs given up. Levi Prater secured the final out but the damage was done.

Lott, Jacob Buchberger and Wade Strauss all recorded two hits. The lineup went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position.

The Palm Beach Cardinals (38-36) beat the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA, 38-36) at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday. TCN’s no. 19 prospect Inohan Paniagua threw seven scoreless innings with only one hit given up. The right-hander fanned six.

The Beach Birds scored three runs in the third inning. Darlin Moquete drove in one and Aaron McKeithan plated two. Leonardo Bernal brought in a run in the sixth. Sander Mora added one more in the ninth.

Nelfri Contreras tossed the eighth inning with one run surrendered. Gustavo Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth with one walk and two strikeouts.

Moquete, McKeithan and Mora all recorded two hits. McKeithan had two of his team’s five RBI. The lineup went 5-for-16 with runners in scoring position.

FCL Cardinals 6 at FCL Astros Blue 1 (7 innings, Game 1)

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (8-10) defeated the Astros Blue (3-15) in Game 1 of a holiday doubleheader at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.

Jose Davila tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings with three hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Ettore Giulianelli pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and earned his first career win in his 21^st outing.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the first two innings. Fernando Diaz and Carlos Linarez each drove in a run in the first. Jose Cordoba doubled to bring one in and came across on a wild pitch in the second. In the sixth, Albert Iona scored and Diaz plated another run.

Johan Quezada threw a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts. Edwin Nunez surrendered a run in the seventh inning.

Diaz and Linarez recorded two hits each. Cordoba had a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. The lineup went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Adari Grant stole two bags and Cordoba took one.

FCL Cardinals 0 at FCL Astros Blue 4 (7 innings, Game 2)

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (8-11) were shut out by the Astros Blue (4-15) in Game 2 of Monday’s doubleheader.

Starter Hancel Rincon surrendered all four runs in three innings and took his second loss. The right-hander yielded six hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Augusto Calderon tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings and Randel Clemente closed out the final 1 1/3 innings with no runs given up.

The Cardinals only recorded one hit, off the bat of Felix Taveras in the sixth inning. The lineup left two runners on base and could not get a man in scoring position.

Tuesday’s game: vs. FCL Astros Blue, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT

DSL Cardinals 4, DSL Angels 14 (7 innings, Game 1)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (8-11) were crushed by the Angels (11-9) on Monday morning.

Starter Ronny Oliver could not record an out in his start and took his first loss. The 18-year-old gave up six runs on six hits and one walk. Diego Dominguez yielded four runs on six hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings.

All four Cardinal runs came in the first two innings. Yaisel Ramos hit an RBI single and Yordalin Pena tripled to bring in two. In the second, Jonathan Mejia singled to plate a run and make the score 7-4.

Yordy Herrera tossed an inning with four runs given up. Juan Severino threw the seventh inning with no runs surrendered.

The lineup recorded five hits and seven walks but went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Carlos Carmona went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Pena had one hit with two RBI.

Luis Rodriguez, Miguel Vargas, Yancel Guerrero and Dominguez committed errors in the seven-inning contest.

DSL Cardinals 8 at DSL Angels 4 (7 innings, Game 2)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (9-11) topped the Angels (11-10) on Monday afternoon.

The Cardinals scored early with an RBI double off the bat of Yordalin Pena in the first inning. The Angels responded with four runs in the first and second.

Darlin Saladin threw four innings with four runs, three earned, surrendered on seven hits and three strikeouts. Henry Gomez tossed a perfect three innings and earned his third win of the year.

Down 4-1, the Cardinals staged a comeback in the fifth. Yaisel Ramos singled to score a run. Yancel Guerrero walked with the bases loaded and Pena came across on a strikeout to tie the game 4-4.

In the seventh inning, Pena came home on a throwing error. Guerrero scored on a fielding error and Marcelo Perez plated two to make the score 8-4.

Pena went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Guerrero recorded one hit, two walks, an RBI and a run scored. The lineup went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Palm Beach lefty Alex Cornwell, who pitched eight innings with a run surrendered and 11 strikeouts. Other standouts include Justin Toerner, Chandler Redmond and Jacob Buchberger.

Memphis 2, Jacksonville 7

The Memphis Redbirds (43-35) fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (MIA, 42-36) at AutoZone Park on Sunday night.

Starter Thomas Parsons threw seven innings and surrendered four runs, all on solo home runs, and took his second loss. Zach McAllister tossed a hitless eighth inning. Blake Parker gave up three runs in the ninth inning.

The only Redbirds runs came in the ninth inning with the club down by seven. Moisés Gómez hit a two-run shot, his first with Memphis.

The Memphis lineup went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times. No player had more than one hit.

The Redbirds went 2-4 this week against the Jumbo Shrimp. They are 4.5 games back of Nashville.

Springfield 10, Wichita 9 (8 innings)

The Springfield Cardinals (34-41) were edged by the Wichita Wind Surge (MIN, 38-36) in eight innings. The game at Hammons Field was called due to rain.

Connor Lunn threw 3 1/3 difficult innings with six runs given up on seven hits and two walks. Domingo Robles pitched 1 2/3 innings and yielded two runs, two hits and three walks.

After the Wind Surge scored three in the second, the Cardinals responded in the home half with three. Chandler Redmond blasted a three-run homer to tie the game. Nick Raposo scored a run in the fourth.

Michael Brettell took his first loss of the season after he surrendered two runs, one earned, in 2 1/3 innings. Dalton Roach tossed the final 2/3 of an inning with no further damage done.

In the sixth, Redmond drove in two runs. Mike Antico tied the game with a two-run single. Roberto Baldoquin added an RBI single in the eighth inning.

The lineup went 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Redmond was 2-for-4 with five RBI and Baldoquin went 4-for-4.

Justin Toerner had three stolen bases and came across four times.

The Cardinals split the series 3-3 with the Wind Surge. They are one game back of Arkansas in the second half.

Peoria 3 at Quad Cities 2

The Peoria Chiefs (31-44) topped the Quad Cities River Bandits (KC, 29-46) on Sunday at Modern Woodmen Park.

Zane Mills tossed 4 2/3 innings with a run yielded and seven strikeouts. Nathanael Heredia pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up one run. The left-hander earned his second win.

Andre Granillo threw a scoreless ninth inning and recorded his third save.

The lineup went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base. Buchberger had two hits and scored twice. Hernandez had one hit, two walks and two RBI.

The Chiefs are five games back of South Bend in the second half and went 3-3 against the River Bandits this week.

The Palm Beach Cardinals (37-36) beat the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 32-42) at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday.

Starter Alex Cornwell tossed a very strong eight innings with one run surrendered. The left-hander fanned 11 batters and earned his third win. Hayes Heinecke saved his fourth game with a clean ninth.

In the third, Leonardo Bernal drove in two. Darlin Moquete added another run in the sixth.

Jeremy Rivas, Matt Chamberlain and Jesus Orecchia recorded two hits each. Bernal had two RBI. The lineup went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position, just enough as Cornwell pitched a gem for the Beach Birds.

Palm Beach went 4-2 against Daytona this week. They are in first place with a 7-2 record in the second half.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 4-2 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Memphis center fielder Conner Capel, who had two hits, two walks, a run scored, two RBI, a stolen base and an outfield assist. Other standouts include Julio Rodriguez and Gustavo Rodriguez.

Memphis 4 at Indianapolis 3

The Memphis Redbirds (39-30) edged the Indianapolis Indians (PIT, 34-33) on Thursday night at Victory Field.

This was a bullpen game with Thomas Parsons taking the mound for the first four innings. The right-hander yielded three runs on six hits, one walk and a strikeout. Kyle Ryan threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two hits surrendered.

Memphis scored a run in both the first and second innings. Conner Capel came home in the first and Paul DeJong walked with the bases loaded in the second. Capel recorded another RBI in the fourth to tie the game 3-3.

Blake Parker tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. The right-hander earned his first win of the season. Kodi Whitley recorded a scoreless inning with two walks given up and three strikeouts. Jacob Bosiokovic recorded his second save of 2022 with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.

The go-ahead run came off the bat of Alec Burleson. The left fielder hit an RBI double in the eighth inning to score Capel.

Capel went 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored. Burleson and Delvin Pérez also had two hits. Scott Hurst had a hit and three walks. The lineup left 14 runners on base with eight hits and 12 walks recorded.

Capel, Hurst and Ben DeLuzio all stole a base. Capel also recorded an outfield assist.

Springfield 11 at NW Arkansas 2

The Springfield Cardinals (28-38) crushed the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (KC, 31-34) on Thursday at Arvest Ballpark.

Edgar Escobar threw five innings with two runs given up on three hits and three walks. The right-hander earned his fourth win.

In the first, Jordan Walker scored on an error and Julio Rodriguez walked with the bases loaded. Justin Toerner hit a two-run homer in the third. Rodriguez scored another run in the fifth with a single.

The bullpen had a very solid outing for the Cardinals. Dalton Roach pitched three hitless innings with two strikeouts. In his Springfield debut, Michael YaSenka tossed a hitless ninth inning.

The Cardinals broke the game open in the eighth and ninth innings. Toerner scored on a fielding error in the eighth. The center fielder drove in a run in the ninth inning. Rodriguez plated two more with a double and Jonah Davis scored one. Masyn Winn added one more.

Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and four RBI. Toerner went 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBI and three runs scored. Walker had two hits including a triple and came across three times. The lineup went 4-for-17 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.

Toerner took his second bag of the year.

Peoria 6 at South Bend 9 (10 innings)

The Peoria Chiefs (28-38) were walked off by the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 34-32) at Four Winds Field on Thursday.

Starter Wilfredo Pereira tossed five innings with two runs yielded on six hits and a walk. The right-hander fanned six. Leonardo Taveras threw 2 2/3 innings with two runs, one earned, given up on three hits and five strikeouts.

The Chiefs scored four runs over the second and third innings. Carlos Soto drove in a run and Mike Antico plated two with a single in the second. Soto brought in another run in the third. In the sixth, L.J. Jones recorded an RBI double to increase the lead to 5-2.

After the Cubs scored two in the eighth, the game was tied and went into extra innings. Tyler Reichenborn drove in Noah Mendlinger in the top of the 10th.

Andre Granillo surrendered five runs, three earned, on five hits and two walks. The right-hander gave up a game-winning three run homer in the 10th and took his first loss of the year.

The lineup left 13 runners on base after scoring six times on 12 hits. Reichenborn, Jones and Mendlinger all recorded multi-hit games. Soto drove in two and had one walk and a hit.

Palm Beach 7, St. Lucie 3

The Palm Beach Cardinals (30-34) defeated the St. Lucie Mets (NYM, 40-25) at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday night.

Starter Inohan Paniagua tossed six innings with three runs given up on seven hits and one walk. The right-hander fanned eight and earned his fourth win.

The Beach Birds scored six of their seven runs in the second and third innings. Elijah Cabell recorded an RBI double and Adanson Cruz plated one. Cabell came across on a wild pitch to close out the second.

In the third, Aaron McKeithan brought in one. Jesus Orecchia and Cabell both plated one to increase the lead to 6-3. Jeremy Rivas came across on a wild pitch in the seventh.

Gustavo Rodriguez pitched the final three innings with only two walks surrendered. The 21-year-old struck out four batters and saved his second game.

Cabell went 3-for-3 with a walk, one run scored and two RBI. Brady Whalen, McKeithan and Orecchia all had two hits. The lineup had 12 hits but struck out 14 times. Matt Chamberlain had a very rough night at the plate with a platinum sombrero (five strikeouts in five at-bats).

FCL Cardinals 1, FCL Astros Orange 3

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (7-5) fell to the Astros Orange (6-6) at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Cards used seven pitchers in the contest.

Starter Diorys Guerrero pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings with two hits, three walks and five strikeouts yielded. Ludwin Jimenez tossed 1 1/3 innings with a run surrendered on two hits and two strikeouts. Augusto Calderon took his second loss after an unearned run given up in the fifth inning.

The only Cardinal run came in the fourth inning as Patrick Romeri plated Lizandro Espinoza via a sacrifice fly.

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (6-8) topped the Mariners (6-6) on Thursday morning in a seven-inning contest.

Starter Ronny Oliver tossed three innings with three runs surrendered on three hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Juan Severino threw two innings and gave up two runs, three hits and a walk.

The Cardinals scored their first two runs in the fifth inning. Maycol Justo tripled to drive in two runs. The Mariners added a run in the home half to increase their lead to 5-2.

Esteban Contreras recorded his first win of the season after an inning pitched. Omar Yanez closed out the game and took his first save of the year.

The lineup mounted a comeback in the seventh inning with five runs scored. Yordalin Pena plated one and Yancel Guerrero scored three with a triple. Keshawn Rombley brought in one more to make the score 7-5.

FCL Cardinals 2, FCL Astros Blue 9 (8 innings)

 The Florida Complex League Cardinals (7-4) fell to the Astros (3-8) after the game was suspended in the eighth inning due to lightning.

Starter Benjamin Arias tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings with two hits, two walks and four strikeouts yielded. Yonael Dominguez threw 1 2/3 innings with a solo home run surrendered. Ettore Giulianelli took his first loss after he gave up two unearned runs.

The first Cardinal run came in the third inning off the bat of Lizandro Espinoza. The shortstop hit a solo shot, the first of his professional career. Luis Pino drove in Espinoza in the sixth inning.

Americo Lugo and Randel Clemente closed the last two innings. Lugo was charged with two unearned runs on three hits and two strikeouts. Clemente had a rough outing with four runs given up on five hits.

The Cardinals lineup had four hits, five walks and 11 strikeouts after batting for only seven innings. Espinoza went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Pino had two hits and Won-Bin Cho walked twice.

Cho and Espinoza both stole a bag. Raul Guzman, Javier Bolivar and Clemente all committed an error, leading to four unearned runs.

DSL Cardinals 0 at DSL Cubs Blue 3

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (5-7) were shut out by the Cubs Blue (5-7) on Monday morning.

Darlin Saladin pitched four innings with a run yielded on two hits and two walks. The right-hander fanned four and recorded his third loss. Samuel Fabian threw two hitless innings. Henry Gomez tossed one inning with an unearned run surrendered on three hits. Omar Yanez gave up a run in one inning.

The Cardinals recorded only four hits against the Cubs. Yordalin Pena went 2-for-4. Yaisel Ramos and Keshawn Rombley had a hit each. The lineup left all four runners on base and did not walk.

Pena stole a bag, the first of his professional career. The Cubs took six bases in six tries, all with Luis Rodriguez catching. Four came while Saladin was pitching.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-3 on Sunday with the lone win from Memphis. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is catcher Austin Romine who went 2-for-4 with three RBI in his Memphis debut. Other standouts include Gordon Graceffo, Masyn Winn and Tyler Reichenborn.

Memphis 7, Nashville 6

The Memphis Redbirds (38-28) edged the Nashville Sounds (MIL, 39-26) at AutoZone Park on Sunday afternoon.

Matthew Liberatore threw five innings with three runs, two earned, surrendered on six hits and two walks. The left-hander fanned five.

The Redbirds scored three runs over the first three innings. Catcher Austin Romine made his Memphis debut and recorded a double to drive in two. Alec Burleson plated one in the third inning. After the Sounds responded in the fifth with three runs, the Redbirds took the lead after Luken Baker drove in Paul DeJong.

With a 4-3 lead, Nashville scored two in the seventh but was answered with two Memphis runs in the home half. Baker scored his second of the game and Romine plated his third. DeJong added an insurance run in the eighth.

Aaron Brooks tossed the remaining four innings with three runs yielded on six hits and three walks. The right-hander struck out two and earned his third win. DeJong’s insurance run proved to be key after the Sounds hit a solo shot in the ninth.

Romine went 2-for-4 with three RBI in his first game with the Redbirds. Baker had two hits, two RBI and a run scored. Ben DeLuzio had two hits and two walks and Burleson had a hit, two walks, an RBI and a run scored. The lineup left nine runners on base, walked seven times and struck out only five times.

Scott Hurst stole his sixth bag of the year. He also made a throwing error and recorded an outfield assist in right field.

The Redbirds split the series with first place Nashville this week and are 1.5 games behind.

Springfield 2, Corpus Christi 4

The Springfield Cardinals (25-38) fell late to the Corpus Christi Hooks (HOU, 28-35) at Hammons Field on Sunday.

Gordon Graceffo threw a solid seven innings with two runs yielded on three hits, no walks and six strikeouts. TCN’s no. 12 prospect has a combined 1.67 ERA between Peoria and Springfield this year.

The Cardinals scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings. Moisés Gómez hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Masyn Winn slammed his fourth home run in Double-A in the fifth inning.

Freddy Pacheco absorbed his fifth loss after he yielded two runs in the ninth inning, breaking the 2-2 tie. The right-hander pitched two innings and gave up two hits, one walk and fanned three.

Winn and Jordan Walker recorded the only Cardinal hits. Nick Dunn had three walks and the lineup took nine free passes. Malcom Nunez struck out three times. The team went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

The Cardinals were 2-4 at home against the Hooks this week. They are in last place in the Texas League North, 12 games behind Tulsa.

Peoria 5, West Michigan 7

At Dozer Park, the Peoria Chiefs (27-36) fell to the West Michigan Whitecaps (DET, 30-33) after a late comeback attempt fell short.

Dionys Rodriguez tossed 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs, three earned, on three hits and four walks. The right-hander fell to 1-7 this season. Enmanuel Solano pitched a scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout yielded.

In the third, Tyler Reichenborn hit his third homer in Peoria, a solo shot. Osvaldo Tovalin drove in Mike Antico in the fifth inning.

Leonardo Taveras threw an inning with one run surrendered on three hits. Nathanael Heredia was charged with two runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. Andre Granillo tossed a scoreless inning with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Chiefs mounted a late comeback attempt in the ninth inning. Tovalin doubled to bring in two runs and make the score 7-4. Todd Lott doubled and plated Tovalin to make it a two-run game with one out. With the tying run at the plate, L.J. Jones had a 10 pitch at-bat that ended with a strikeout. Aaron Antonini was the final hope for the Chiefs but lined out.

The Chiefs recorded nine hits and five walks but only scored five. Lott and Luis Rodriguez had two hits each. Tovalin went 1-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Reichenborn went 1-for-2 with three walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

Reichenborn stole his seventh base of the season. Antico took two bags and leads the Midwest League with 31.

The Chiefs went 2-4 against the Whitecaps this week. They currently sit in fifth place in the Midwest League West and are 14 games behind Cedar Rapids.

Palm Beach 2 at Clearwater 6

The Palm Beach Cardinals (27-34) fell to the Clearwater Threshers (PHI, 32-30) at BayCare Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

Trent Baker tossed 3 1/3 innings and gave up four runs, two earned, on three hits and two walks. TCN’s no. 30 prospect fanned six and recorded his sixth loss.

After the Threshers scored two runs in the first, the Beach Birds responded in the third. Jhon Torres doubled to score two runs.

Jose Moreno pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings with a walk and one strikeout yielded. Andrew Marrero surrendered two runs on two hits in one inning. Nelfri Contreras threw a hitless eighth inning.

The Cardinals only had five hits and two walks. Torres recorded the only RBI and extra base hit. The lineup did not threaten often, going 2-for-4 with runners in scoring position and leaving four runners on base.

Palm Beach dropped three straight at Clearwater this weekend after they won the first three games. The Cardinals are in third place of the Florida State League East, 12.5 games behind St. Lucie.

The Memphis Redbirds (37-28) fell to the Nashville Sounds (MIL, 39-25) on Saturday night at AutoZone Park.

In a bullpen game, Thomas Parsons started and threw four innings with three runs yielded on three hits and three walks. The right-hander fanned six and recorded his first loss. James Naile surrendered two runs, one earned, on two hits in two innings.

Irving Lopez plated one run in the third but the Sounds responded with three in the visitor’s half of the frame. Pedro Pages recorded his first RBI with Memphis via a sacrifice fly in the fourth. The Redbirds tried to mount a comeback in the ninth but could only bring across one as Clint Coulter drove in Cory Spangenberg.

Zach McAllister tossed two scoreless innings and struck out four batters. Kodi Whitley closed out the game with a hit yielded.

The Redbirds had seven hits, three walks and struck out 15 times, including three each by the first two batters, Lars Nootbaar and Paul DeJong. Spangenberg had two hits and came home twice. Coulter went 2-for-2 with an RBI. The lineup left six runners on base.

Spangenberg stole his ninth base of the year.

The Springfield Cardinals (25-37) lost to the Corpus Christi Hooks (HOU, 27-35) at Hammons Field on Saturday.

Starter Michael McGreevy pitched four innings with five runs, four earned, surrendered on seven hits. The prospect right-hander fanned six and recorded his second Double-A loss. Tyler Pike tossed an inning with three runs given up on two hits and four walks.

Masyn Winn scored in the first after a wild pitch. Nick Dunn plated one in the third. Matt Koperniak hit a solo shot and Jonah Davis grounded out to score another run in the fourth. Malcom Nunez hit his eighth home run of the year in the seventh.

Ryan Loutos yielded two runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks in 1 2/3 innings. Johan Quezada closed out the remaining 2 1/3 innings with no runs given up. The right-hander walked one and fanned three.

Dunn was the only player in the lineup with two hits. The Cardinals struck out 15 times, including three by Masyn Winn, and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

The Peoria Chiefs (27-35) topped the West Michigan Whitecaps (DET, 29-33) after an impressive eight run first inning.

In his Peoria debut, Edgar Manzo tossed four innings with two runs given up on five hits, no walks and four strikeouts.

Osvaldo Tovalin made his first start for the Chiefs and hit a three-run shot in the first. Aaron Antonini and Carlos Soto both scored on a fielding error to make the score 5-0. Mike Antico brought in a run and came across on a wild pitch. The Chiefs recorded seven hits, two walks and eight runs in the first inning.

Palm Beach 4 at Clearwater 5

The Palm Beach Cardinals (27-33) fell to the Clearwater Threshers (PHI, 31-30) at BayCare Ballpark on Saturday.

Starter Bryan Pope yielded five runs, one earned, on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Carlos Guarate closed out the remaining 4 1/3 innings with only two hits given up.

With a tie game in the fourth, the Threshers scored all five runs. Sander Mora committed a fielding error with two outs. This led to a grand slam for Clearwater.

The Beach Birds scored four runs over the fifth and sixth innings. Matt Chamberlain hit a two-run shot in the fifth and Jhon Torres added his two-run homer in the sixth. The Cardinals did not score again after the sixth inning.

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (7-3) defeated the Nationals (5-4) at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday morning. Starter Jose Davila tossed 4 1/3 innings with a run surrendered on a hit, one walk and four strikeouts. Alejandro Cervantes threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings with three walks and one strikeout yielded.

The Cardinals scored all six runs in the sixth inning. Palm Beach rehabber Patrick Romeri tripled to bring in a run. In his professional debut, Won-Bin Cho recorded his first hit, a single, and plated Romeri. Francis Reynoso doubled to bring in a run and Samil De La Rosa hit a three-run homer to make the score 6-1.

Enrique Saldana took his second win after he pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings. Brayan Ramirez tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Yordy Richard pitched the remaining 2/3 of an inning with no hits charged.

Romeri recorded the only multi-hit game with two. Cho, TCN’s no. 20 prospect, went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in his debut. The lineup went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

DSL Cardinals 7, DSL D-backs Red 6

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (5-6) edged the Diamondbacks Red (3-7) on Saturday morning. The Cardinals used six different pitchers in the contest led by starter Leonel Sequera, who tossed four innings with two runs yielded on five hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

The Cardinals scored three runs over the fourth and fifth innings. Miguel Vargas hit a two-run shot in the fourth. Yaisel Ramos tripled to bring in a run in the fifth inning.

Jovi Galvez could not record an out in the fifth inning and gave up a run on a hit and three walks. Oliver Lopez threw two hitless innings with a walk and a strikeout. Diego Dominguez earned his first win after one inning pitched and a run surrendered on two hits. Juan Severino pitched one inning with a run yielded on two hits. Miguel Martinez took his first save of the season. The right-hander was charged with a run on one hit, two walks and two strikeouts.

In the seventh, the Cardinals added three more runs. Luis Rodriguez hit a three-run home run, the first of the 17-year-old’s career. Yancel Guerrero came across on a wild pitch in the eighth inning to make the score 7-5.

Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Ramos had two hits with an RBI. The lineup went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times but found a way to win.

Angel Rondón recorded his third win despite surrendering five of the six Nashville runs. The right-hander yielded five hits, three walks and five strikeouts in five innings.

The Redbirds scored an impressive six runs in the third inning. In his first rehab start, St. Louis outfielder Corey Dickerson hit a two-run shot. Luken Baker brought in a run and Evan Mendoza plated two. Cory Spangenberg added one more in the fourth.

Zach McAllister had a solid two scoreless innings with a hit given up and two strikeouts. Blake Parker tossed 2/3 of an inning with a hit and two walks charged. Kodi Whitley threw the remaining 1 1/3 innings and recorded his second save. The right-hander surrendered one run on three hits and three strikeouts.

Alec Burleson, Spangenberg and Mendoza had two hits each. The Redbirds recorded 13 hits and left eight runners on base. Dickerson went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in his first rehab start.

Connor Lunn pitched three innings with a run yielded on three hits and two strikeouts. Garrett Williams took his second loss after he surrendered two runs on solo homers. The left-hander fanned five in 2 2/3 innings.

Justin Toerner scored after a wild pitch in the third inning. In the seventh, Toerner singled to drive in two to make the deficit 5-3.

Johan Quezada threw 1 1/3 innings with two runs given up on four hits and two walks. Michael Brettell closed out the last two innings with three strikeouts and one hit.

Toerner went 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and one run. The Cardinals fanned 12 times and went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

The Peoria Chiefs (26-34) outslugged the West Michigan Whitecaps (DET, 28-32) on Thursday night at Dozer Park. Zane Mills had a rough night on the bump with eight runs, four earned, given up on 10 hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings.

With the Chiefs down 5-0 in the third, the bats came alive with at least one run scored every inning after. L.J. Jones hit his third homer of the season, a three-run shot, in the fourth. Tyler Reichenborn hit a two-run home run in the fifth, his second in Peoria.

In the sixth, Carlos Soto hit his third home run of the year, a three-run shot. Francisco Hernandez plated one in the seventh and Thomas Francisco scored two. Ramon Mendoza brought across one with a sacrifice bunt. To top the night off, Todd Lott hit a solo shot in the eighth, his third for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs scored nine of their 13 runs on the long ball. Lott went 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored. Jones had one hit, two walks, three RBI and three runs. Soto recorded two hits with a three-run homer. The top four in the lineup came across nine times.

Hernandez stole his 13th base of the year.

The Palm Beach Cardinals (27-31) topped the Clearwater Threshers (PHI, 29-30) in a long 13 inning contest.

This was a bullpen game that led to six pitchers taking the mound. Starter Chris Gerard threw one scoreless inning with two hits given up and two strikeouts. Alex Cornwell tossed 3 2/3 innings with one run surrendered on five hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Alfredo Ruiz gave up a solo home run in 1 1/3 innings.

Aaron McKeithan hit a solo shot in the second inning, his second of 2022. The catcher was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning to bring across a run. Jhon Torres doubled to plate two more and take a 4-2 lead. The Threshers tied the game in the ninth.

Andrew Marrero pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Gustavo Rodriguez gave up two runs on a hit, a walk and four strikeouts in two innings. Hayes Heinecke yielded an unearned run in three innings with five strikeouts.

With a 4-4 tie in the ninth, the contest went into extra innings. The two teams exchanged runs in the 11th. Sander Mora scored on a fielder’s choice. The Threshers responded with one to tie the game again. In the 13th, Jeremy Rivas and Osvaldo Tovalin both plated a run to take the lead.

Heinecke recorded a hitless 13th and earned his second win.

The Beach Birds went 4-for-22 with runners in scoring position with left 15 runners on base. Tovalin and Torres both had three hits. The lineup struck out 16 times but the pitching staff fanned 17 batters.

FCL Cardinals 4 at FCL Mets 5 (10 innings)

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (5-3) were walked off by the FCL Mets (6-2) in the 10th inning at St. Lucie Sports Complex on Thursday.

Starter Diorys Guerrero threw four innings with a run surrendered on three hits and five strikeouts. Randel Clemente gave up two runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings. Augusto Calderon pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings with three hits yielded.

The Cardinals plated two runs in the second inning after the Mets scored one in the first. Hansel Otamendi drove in one and Fernando Diaz tripled to bring in Otamendi. Lizandro Espinoza scored on a fielder’s choice in the eighth and the game went into extra innings.

Ettore Giulianelli threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and Omar Sanchez tossed a scoreless 2/3 of an inning with two walks and one strikeout.

In the 10th, Carlos Linarez scored on a throwing error to take the lead. In the bottom half, the Mets scored two runs to win the contest. Ludwin Jimenez surrendered the game-winning run and took his first loss. The right-hander yielded two runs, one earned, on two hits and two strikeouts.

The Cards’ lineup went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and struck out 15 times. Espinoza recorded two of the five Cardinal hits. The shortstop is 10-for-25 (.400) so far this season.

Samil De La Rosa stole two bags. Fernando Diaz and Carlos Linarez stole one base each.

DSL Cardinals 10, DSL Angels 4

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (3-6) topped the DSL Angels (4-4) on Thursday afternoon. Ronny Oliver tossed four innings with two runs surrendered on three hits, one walk and four strikeouts.

The Cardinals scored all 10 runs in the third through fifth innings. Jonathan Mejia doubled to bring in a run. Maycol Justo plated Mejia and Justo scored on a fielding error. Arfeni Batista drove in one more in the third. Yancel Guerrero scored on a wild pitch and Justo hit a solo shot in the fourth. In the fifth, Miguel Vargas plated one. Mejia walked with the bases loaded and Guerrero scored on a wild pitch. Justo drove in another run to make the score 10-2.

Henry Gomez threw two scoreless innings with a hit given up. The right-hander earned his second win. Esteban Contreras pitched one inning with two runs yielded on two hits and three walks. Bruno Lopez was charged with no runs with two strikeouts in the last two innings of the game.

Justo went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Batista also had three hits with an RBI and a run. The Cardinals had 15 hits, four walks but struck out 12 times.

Yaisel Ramos stole his first base of the season.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-1 on Monday with the FCL taking the win. The Cardinal Nation’s Players of the Day are FCL’s Luis Pino and Francis Reynoso. Pino had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Reynoso had three hits, one RBI and two runs scored.

FCL Cardinals 10, FCL Marlins 9

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (4-2) walked off the Marlins (2-4) after the opposition scored six runs in the ninth on Monday. Benjamin Arias tossed four innings with a run given up on two hits and two walks. The right-hander fanned two.

After the Marlins scored one in the second, the Cardinals responded with two in the home half. Luis Pino blasted a two-run shot, his first of the season. The Cardinals added four more over the fourth and fifth innings. Jose Cordoba hit a three-run home run in the fourth and Samil De La Rosa plated one in the fifth.

In relief, Americo Lugo yielded a run on a hit and three walks in 2/3 of an inning. Victor Villanueva threw a scoreless 1 1/3 innings. Ettore Guilianelli pitched one inning with a run surrendered on a hit and two walks. Yordy Richard gave up four runs in the eighth inning on four hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Enrique Saldana was charged with two runs, one earned, in the ninth and took his first win.

In the seventh, the Cardinals scored three runs to take a 9-3 lead. Francis Reynoso plated one and Pino drove in another run. De La Rosa came across on a wild pitch.

The Marlins scored six runs in the ninth to tie the game. The Cardinals walked off the game in the home half as Raul Guzman came across on a wild pitch. He was hit by a pitch and stole second before a double by Romtres Cabrera put him on third.

Reynoso went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Pino had two hits, one walk, three RBI and two runs. The lineup went 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times.

Carlos Linarez and Guzman both stole a bag.

DSL Cardinals 0 at DSL Mariners 4

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (2-5) were shut out by the Mariners (4-2) on Monday afternoon.

Starter Darlin Saladin yielded three runs in two innings. The right-hander surrendered four hits, one walk, three strikeouts and received his second loss. Omar Yanez threw a scoreless two innings on two hits, one walk and fanned four. Oliver Lopez pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings with a hit, three walks and two strikeouts. Juan Severino tossed 1 1/3 innings with a run, a hit and five walks yielded. Junior Chirinos threw a hitless inning.

The Cardinals only recorded two hits – from Arfeni Batista and Anyelo Encarnacion. The Cards struck out 15 times and left seven runners on base.

Encarnacion stole two bases and Jonathan Mejia took one.
