The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-2 plus a shared NL Futures Game loss on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis shortstop Paul DeJong, had four hits and five RBI. Other standouts include Aaron Brooks, Evan Mendoza, Chase Pinder, Chandler Redmond and L.J. Jones.

MLB Futures Game at Dodger Stadium – National League 4, American League 6
Third baseman Jordan Walker (TCN’s no. 1 prospect) and shortstop Masyn Winn (TCN no. 2) started in the nationally-televised contest, both from the Double-A Springfield Cardinals.
Walker popped out and grounded out in two at-bats and Winn struck out twice.
The game was highlighted by Winn’s 100.5 mph throw from shortstop, the fastest throw by a fielder recorded in the Statcast era.

Oakland Athletics top prospect Shea Langeliers was named the game’s MVP.
The Memphis Redbirds (50-39) blanked and crushed the Nashville Sounds (MIL, 53-35) at First Horizon Park on Saturday, clinching the road series with the first-place club with one game to go.
Starter Aaron Brooks went a phenomenal 7 2/3 scoreless innings on just six hits. The right-hander fanned six and earned his fifth win. Garrett Williams tossed the final 1 1/3 innings and struck out three.
In the third inning, Ben DeLuzio and Paul DeJong both drove in a run. DeJong plated two more in the fifth. In the sixth, Cory Spangenberg recorded an RBI triple. Evan Mendoza doubled to plate one and DeJong scored his fourth of the game. Pedro Pages plated one in the seventh to make it 8-0. Scott Hurst and DeJong each scored a run in the eighth inning.
The Redbirds scored 10 runs on 18 hits. DeJong and Mendoza had two hits each and DeLuzio had three. DeJong brought across five runs and Mendoza scored three runs and one RBI. The lineup went 11-for-22 with runners in scoring position.
Sunday’s game: at Nashville, LHP Matthew Liberatore (4-3, 4.03) vs. RHP Caleb Boushley (9-2, 3.04) 1:05 CT
The Springfield Cardinals (10-7) destroyed the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 6-11) at Hammons Field on Saturday. Even without Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn, away from the club for the Futures Game, the Cardinals posted a decisive victory.
Edgar Escobar tossed five innings with four runs yielded on eight hits and two walks. The right-hander earned his sixth win.
The Cardinals scored eight runs in the first two innings. In the first, Chandler Redmond cleared the bases with a grand slam. Matt Koperniak added one in the second. Chase Pinder plated two and Julio Rodriguez scored one, while extending his on-base streak to 21 games. In the fourth, Chase Pinder hit a two-run homer and Justin Toerner brought two runs across to extend the lead to 12-4.

Griffin Roberts pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Logan Gragg tossed the final three innings with one run given up. The right-hander earned his second save in Springfield.
In the sixth, Rodriguez and Roberto Baldoquin both came across on an error. Jacob Buchberger hit his first homer for Springfield in the eighth inning.

Koperniak went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Pinder and Redmond both plated four runs. The lineup had 13 hits and nine walks in the contest.
The Cardinals were running on Saturday night with four stolen bases. Toerner, Koperniak, Buchberger and Nick Dunn all took a bag.

The Peoria Chiefs (7-13) topped the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 14-6) at Dozer Park on Saturday night.
Wilfredo Pereira tossed 6 2/3 innings with two runs given up on three hits. The right-hander fanned seven and earned his fourth win.
The Chiefs scored all three runs in the fifth inning. Noah Mendlinger hit a solo home run, his second of the year. L.J. Jones tripled to plate two runs and take a 3-1 lead. The Cubs scored a run in the seventh.

Nick Trogrlic-Iverson pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings with one hit surrendered. The right-hander collected his first professional save.
The top four in the lineup had six hits combined. Todd Lott and Brady Whalen each had two hits and Jones drove in two. The lineup went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Tyler Reichenborn stole his 14th bag for Peoria.

Palm Beach vs. Lakeland (postponed)
Due to inclement weather, the Palm Beach Cardinals and Lakeland Flying Tigers contest at Jupiter’s Roger Dean Stadium has been postponed and will be made up as a doubleheader on Sunday.

FCL Cardinals 1, FCL Nationals 2
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (12-16) were edged by the Nationals (22-7) at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday. The Cardinals used seven different pitchers in the contest.
Starter Hancel Rincon gave up the only two runs in 3 2/3 innings on six hits and one walk. The 20-year-old struck out four and took his fourth loss of the season. Americo Lugo tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Omar Sanchez and Angel Cuenca each threw a scoreless frame.
The only Cardinal run came in the sixth inning. Brandon Hernandez walked with the bases loaded to make the score 2-1.
Victor Villanueva pitched a scoreless inning with one hit and one walk yielded. Randel Clemente walked two and only went 1/3 of an inning. Augusto Calderon closed out the final 2/3 of the ninth with no damage done.
The lineup went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and recorded seven hits. Hernandez had two hits and one walk. Edgardo Rodriguez and Carlos Linarez both doubled.
Jose Cordoba stole his fifth bag of the year.
The Cardinals are in fifth place and are 9.5 games behind the Nationals in the FCL East.
Thursday’s game: vs. FCL Astros Blue, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT (The Cardinals are off until Thursday, July 21st)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (17-16) were crushed by the Twins on Saturday.
Starter Leonel Sequera pitched three innings with four runs, three earned, yielded on six hits and one walk. The 16-year-old fanned six and took his third loss of the year. Oliver Lopez could only secure one out after he gave up two runs, one earned, on a hit and three walks. Junior Chirinos surrendered a run in 2 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. Juan Severino tossed a hitless seventh inning.
Keshawn Rombley recorded the only run for the Cardinals in the seventh. The left fielder hit a solo homer, his first of the season.
Yordy Herrera and Miguel Martinez closed out the eighth and ninth. Herrera was charged with an unearned run and Martinez gave up two runs.
The lineup went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and struck out 15 times. No player recorded more than one hit.
Justin Guerrero and Arfeni Batista each committed an error. Jonathan Mejia recorded two.
The Cardinals are four games back of first place Colorado in the DSL South.
