The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Palm Beach lefty Alex Cornwell, who pitched eight innings with a run surrendered and 11 strikeouts. Other standouts include Justin Toerner, Chandler Redmond and Jacob Buchberger.

The Memphis Redbirds (43-35) fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (MIA, 42-36) at AutoZone Park on Sunday night.
Starter Thomas Parsons threw seven innings and surrendered four runs, all on solo home runs, and took his second loss. Zach McAllister tossed a hitless eighth inning. Blake Parker gave up three runs in the ninth inning.
The only Redbirds runs came in the ninth inning with the club down by seven. Moisés Gómez hit a two-run shot, his first with Memphis.

The Memphis lineup went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times. No player had more than one hit.
The Redbirds went 2-4 this week against the Jumbo Shrimp. They are 4.5 games back of Nashville.

Springfield 10, Wichita 9 (8 innings)
The Springfield Cardinals (34-41) were edged by the Wichita Wind Surge (MIN, 38-36) in eight innings. The game at Hammons Field was called due to rain.
Connor Lunn threw 3 1/3 difficult innings with six runs given up on seven hits and two walks. Domingo Robles pitched 1 2/3 innings and yielded two runs, two hits and three walks.
After the Wind Surge scored three in the second, the Cardinals responded in the home half with three. Chandler Redmond blasted a three-run homer to tie the game. Nick Raposo scored a run in the fourth.

Michael Brettell took his first loss of the season after he surrendered two runs, one earned, in 2 1/3 innings. Dalton Roach tossed the final 2/3 of an inning with no further damage done.
In the sixth, Redmond drove in two runs. Mike Antico tied the game with a two-run single. Roberto Baldoquin added an RBI single in the eighth inning.
The lineup went 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Redmond was 2-for-4 with five RBI and Baldoquin went 4-for-4.
Justin Toerner had three stolen bases and came across four times.
The Cardinals split the series 3-3 with the Wind Surge. They are one game back of Arkansas in the second half.
Monday’s game: at Arkansas, RHP Edgar Escobar (4-4, 6.87) vs. RHP Taylor Dollard (7-2, 0.99) 5:35 CT
The Peoria Chiefs (31-44) topped the Quad Cities River Bandits (KC, 29-46) on Sunday at Modern Woodmen Park.
Zane Mills tossed 4 2/3 innings with a run yielded and seven strikeouts. Nathanael Heredia pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up one run. The left-hander earned his second win.
In the second, Francisco Hernandez doubled to drive in two. Jacob Buchberger came across in the fourth.
Andre Granillo threw a scoreless ninth inning and recorded his third save.
The lineup went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base. Buchberger had two hits and scored twice. Hernandez had one hit, two walks and two RBI.
The Chiefs are five games back of South Bend in the second half and went 3-3 against the River Bandits this week.

The Palm Beach Cardinals (37-36) beat the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 32-42) at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday.
Starter Alex Cornwell tossed a very strong eight innings with one run surrendered. The left-hander fanned 11 batters and earned his third win. Hayes Heinecke saved his fourth game with a clean ninth.

In the third, Leonardo Bernal drove in two. Darlin Moquete added another run in the sixth.
Jeremy Rivas, Matt Chamberlain and Jesus Orecchia recorded two hits each. Bernal had two RBI. The lineup went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position, just enough as Cornwell pitched a gem for the Beach Birds.
Palm Beach went 4-2 against Daytona this week. They are in first place with a 7-2 record in the second half.
