Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 12, 2022

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-0 on Monday with both rookie ball teams taking wins. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, FCL RHP Jose Davila, pitched five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Other standouts include Adari Grant, Arfeni Batista and Darlin Saladin.

Memphis Redbirds – Off

The 46-38 Redbirds are in third place, 6.5 games back of Nashville in the International League West Division.

Springfield Cardinals – Off

The 6-6 Cardinals are in second place, one game back of Arkansas in the Texas League North Division.

Peoria Chiefs – Off

Peoria (5-10) is in fifth place, six games back of first place South Bend in the Midwest League West Division.

Palm Beach Cardinals – Off

9-6 Palm Beach remains in first place in the Florida State League East with a one-game lead over Jupiter and St. Lucie.

FCL Cardinals 2, FCL Marlins 1

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (11-13) edged the Marlins (14-11) at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday.

Jose Davila tossed five scoreless innings with five hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. Randel Clemente threw a hitless two innings. Enrique Saldana gave up an unearned run in the eighth inning and only recorded two outs. Omar Sanchez pitched a hitless 1 1/3 innings and earned his first win this season.

After the Marlins scored one in the eighth, the Cardinals responded with two in the home half. Felix Taveras and Brandon Hernandez got on, then Adari Grant tripled to plate both.

The Cardinals only recorded four hits and went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Grant recorded the only RBI for the Cardinals. The pitchers were remarkable on Monday and kept the Cardinals in the game.

Luis Pino recorded an outfield assist.

The Cardinals sit in fifth place and are six games back of the Nationals in the FCL East.

DSL Cardinals 5 at DSL HOU Orange 3

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (13-15) topped Houston Orange (11-14) on Monday afternoon.

Starter Darlin Saladin gave up an unearned run in five innings and earned his first win. The right-hander yielded three hits, three walks and nine strikeouts. Esteban Contreras surrendered two runs in 2/3 of an inning on two hits, two walks and one strikeout.

Maikel Hernandez doubled to drive in two runs in the fourth inning. In the sixth, Alejandro Loaiza and Anyelo Encarnacion both singled to plate one to extend the lead to 4-1. Yaisel Ramos added one more run in the seventh.

Omar Yanez tossed a scoreless 2 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. Bruno Lopez earned his first professional save with a scoreless ninth inning.

The lineup had 13 hits and five runs. Arfeni Batista had three hits and a run scored. Every player in the lineup was on base at least once in the contest.

Ramos stole his third bag of the year and Yordalin Pena recorded an outfield assist in center field. Saladin recorded two pickoffs.

The Cardinals are in seventh place in the seventh place in the DSL South and are 6.5 games back of first.
