The St. Louis Cardinals system went 4-4 on July 4th. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis DH Alec Burleson, went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Other standouts include Chase Pinder, Todd Lott, Inohan Paniagua and Jose Cordoba.

The Memphis Redbirds (44-35) topped the Durham Bulls (TB, 42-37) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Monday night. In his first rehab start, left fielder Tyler O’Neill went 2-for-3 with a double.
Starter Aaron Brooks tossed 5 2/3 innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on nine hits and one walk. The right-hander fanned six. Grant Black earned his first Triple-A win after throwing 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Redbirds were shut out until the seventh inning. Alec Burleson and Cory Spangenberg drove in a run each to close the deficit to 3-2. In the eighth, Memphis scored four more. Moisés Gómez hit an RBI double and Burleson drove in another run on an opposite field single. Luken Baker’s two-run home run, deep to left-center, his 13th, extended the lead to 6-3.

Freddy Pacheco yielded a run in 1 2/3 innings and Zach McAllister earned his second save after he secured the final two outs.
Burleson went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. O’Neill and Baker recorded two hits apiece. The lineup went 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
Wednesday’s game: at Durham, LHP Garrett Williams (0-1, 9.00 at Triple-A) vs. LHP Ryan Yarbrough, 5:35 CT (The Redbirds are off Tuesday)
The Springfield Cardinals (34-42) were walloped by the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 41-35) on Monday at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Edgar Escobar threw four innings with seven runs surrendered on eight hits and four walks. The right-hander struck out four and took his fourth loss. Michael YaSenka yielded three runs in two innings.
Chase Pinder hit a home run in the second, a solo shot. The left fielder added a three-run homer in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-4. The Cardinals could not score further after the sixth.

John Beller yielded three runs in the seventh inning on two hits and two strikeouts. Tyler Pike tossed a scoreless eighth.
Jordan Walker had two hits. Pinder recorded two home runs and four RBI. The Travelers had 18 runners in scoring position in the contest.
Wednesday’s game: at Arkansas, RHP Michael McGreevy (3-2, 4.26) vs. RHP Connor Jones (4-6, 4.90) 12:05 CT (The Cardinals are off Tuesday)
The Peoria Chiefs (31-45) were topped by the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 36-39) at Dozer Park on Monday.
Starter Wilfredo Pereira threw six innings with two runs, one earned, yielded on five hits and one walk. The right-hander fanned nine batters.
Todd Lott hit a leadoff home run in the first inning and added another solo homer in the third, his fifth with Peoria. Francisco Hernandez added another run in the fourth.

The pen failed the Chiefs as Enmanuel Solano gave up three runs in 1/3 of an inning and Leonardo Taveras surrendered two runs in 1 2/3 innings. Chris Roycroft only pitched 2/3 of an inning with four runs given up. Levi Prater secured the final out but the damage was done.
Lott, Jacob Buchberger and Wade Strauss all recorded two hits. The lineup went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position.
Wednesday’s game: vs. Beloit, RHP Dionys Rodriguez (1-8, 4.98) vs. RHP M.D. Johnson, 6:35 CT (The Chiefs are off Tuesday)
The Palm Beach Cardinals (38-36) beat the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA, 38-36) at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday. TCN’s no. 19 prospect Inohan Paniagua threw seven scoreless innings with only one hit given up. The right-hander fanned six.
The Beach Birds scored three runs in the third inning. Darlin Moquete drove in one and Aaron McKeithan plated two. Leonardo Bernal brought in a run in the sixth. Sander Mora added one more in the ninth.
Nelfri Contreras tossed the eighth inning with one run surrendered. Gustavo Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth with one walk and two strikeouts.
Moquete, McKeithan and Mora all recorded two hits. McKeithan had two of his team’s five RBI. The lineup went 5-for-16 with runners in scoring position.

FCL Cardinals 6 at FCL Astros Blue 1 (7 innings, Game 1)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (8-10) defeated the Astros Blue (3-15) in Game 1 of a holiday doubleheader at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
Jose Davila tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings with three hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Ettore Giulianelli pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and earned his first career win in his 21st outing.
The Cardinals scored four runs in the first two innings. Fernando Diaz and Carlos Linarez each drove in a run in the first. Jose Cordoba doubled to bring one in and came across on a wild pitch in the second. In the sixth, Albert Iona scored and Diaz plated another run.
Johan Quezada threw a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts. Edwin Nunez surrendered a run in the seventh inning.
Diaz and Linarez recorded two hits each. Cordoba had a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. The lineup went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Adari Grant stole two bags and Cordoba took one.
FCL Cardinals 0 at FCL Astros Blue 4 (7 innings, Game 2)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals (8-11) were shut out by the Astros Blue (4-15) in Game 2 of Monday’s doubleheader.
Starter Hancel Rincon surrendered all four runs in three innings and took his second loss. The right-hander yielded six hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Augusto Calderon tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings and Randel Clemente closed out the final 1 1/3 innings with no runs given up.
The Cardinals only recorded one hit, off the bat of Felix Taveras in the sixth inning. The lineup left two runners on base and could not get a man in scoring position.
Tuesday’s game: vs. FCL Astros Blue, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT
DSL Cardinals 4, DSL Angels 14 (7 innings, Game 1)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (8-11) were crushed by the Angels (11-9) on Monday morning.
Starter Ronny Oliver could not record an out in his start and took his first loss. The 18-year-old gave up six runs on six hits and one walk. Diego Dominguez yielded four runs on six hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings.
All four Cardinal runs came in the first two innings. Yaisel Ramos hit an RBI single and Yordalin Pena tripled to bring in two. In the second, Jonathan Mejia singled to plate a run and make the score 7-4.
Yordy Herrera tossed an inning with four runs given up. Juan Severino threw the seventh inning with no runs surrendered.
The lineup recorded five hits and seven walks but went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Carlos Carmona went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Pena had one hit with two RBI.
Luis Rodriguez, Miguel Vargas, Yancel Guerrero and Dominguez committed errors in the seven-inning contest.
DSL Cardinals 8 at DSL Angels 4 (7 innings, Game 2)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (9-11) topped the Angels (11-10) on Monday afternoon.
The Cardinals scored early with an RBI double off the bat of Yordalin Pena in the first inning. The Angels responded with four runs in the first and second.
Darlin Saladin threw four innings with four runs, three earned, surrendered on seven hits and three strikeouts. Henry Gomez tossed a perfect three innings and earned his third win of the year.
Down 4-1, the Cardinals staged a comeback in the fifth. Yaisel Ramos singled to score a run. Yancel Guerrero walked with the bases loaded and Pena came across on a strikeout to tie the game 4-4.
In the seventh inning, Pena came home on a throwing error. Guerrero scored on a fielding error and Marcelo Perez plated two to make the score 8-4.
Pena went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Guerrero recorded one hit, two walks, an RBI and a run scored. The lineup went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Tuesday’s game: vs. DSL Angels, TBA vs. TBA 10:00 CT
