The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-1 on Sunday with wins by Memphis, Springfield and Peoria. Back together again, Springfield’s Masyn Winn and Jordan Walker went a combined 5-for-8 including three doubles, walked four times, stole a base, drove in two and scored four runs. Other standouts include Alec Burleson, Thomas Parsons, Masyn Winn, L.J. Jones and Osvaldo Tovalin.

Memphis 4, Iowa 2

The Memphis Redbirds (27-21) edged the Iowa Cubs (CHC, 23-24) on Sunday at AutoZone Park. Angel Rondón tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings with five hits and four walks given up.

Alec Burleson

The Redbirds scored one run in each the first, second and third innings. Alec Burleson stayed hot with an RBI single in the first and a solo home run in the third. Clint Coulter recorded an RBI in the second. Kramer Robertson added one more in the sixth to make it a 4-0 Redbirds lead.

Tommy Parsons

Thomas Parsons pitched a flawless 2 2/3 innings with no hits or runs yielded. The right hander struck out two and took his third win. James Naile and Kyle Ryan each surrendered a run. Junior Fernández saved his second game of the season with one hit surrendered in the ninth.

Robertson, Burleson and Ben DeLuzio each had two hits. Burleson drove in two and DeLuzio scored twice. The lineup recorded 10 hits and went 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Robertson and DeLuzio stole a bag each.

The Redbirds went 5-1 against the Cubs this week and sit 5.5 games behind first place Nashville.

Springfield 11 at Tulsa 4

The Springfield Cardinals (19-26) crushed the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 27-17) at ONEOK Field on Sunday. Starter Kyle Leahy won his third game after throwing five innings with two runs surrendered. The right hander gave up five hits, four walks and struck out four.

The Cardinals scored early with seven runs in the first two innings. Jordan Walker, Moisés Gómez, and Pedro Pages each recorded an RBI. Julio Rodriguez drove in two to make it a 5-0 lead in the first. Gómez scored another in the second and Walker came home on a throwing error. Delvin Pérez added one more in the fifth.

Sean Kealey tossed two innings with one run and two hits yielded. The left hander struck out two. Ryan Loutos pitched one inning with two walks and one hit given up. Johan Quezada was charged with one run in the ninth.

The Cardinals scored three more runs in the final two innings. Masyn Winn came across on a wild pitch and Walker brought in another run. Chandler Redmond hit a solo shot in the ninth.

The bats were rolling on Sunday with 12 hits, nine walks and 11 runs. Winn recorded three hits, including two doubles, a walk and two runs scored. Walker went 2-for-3 including a double with three walks, two RBI and two runs scored. Hitting between Winn and Walker, Justin Toerner drew three walks and scored each time. Gómez had two hits and two RBI. The lineup went 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Not only were the bats rolling, five different players stole a base. Winn, Walker, Gómez, Pérez and Justin Toerner took one apiece.

Springfield split the series with first place Tulsa this week. They sit 8.5 games behind the Drillers.

Peoria 15, Lake County 2

Behind a season-high 15 runs scored, the Peoria Chiefs (18-27) crushed the Lake County Captains (CLE, 23-21) at Dozer Park on Sunday. Logan Gragg threw five solid innings with one run given up. The right hander struck out six and won his second game.

Before Sunday, Peoria had lost all five games of the home series to the Captains. The Chiefs bats came out swinging with 10 runs in the first four innings. Todd Lott drove in a run and scored after a fielding error in the first. Jacob Buchberger plated two in the second inning. Mack Chambers brought in one and in his first game off the injured list, L.J. Jones hit a grand slam in the fourth. Carlos Soto came across on another error to make the score 10-1.

Not only did the hitting do well, the bullpen gave up only one run on two hits. Wilfredo Pereira tossed two scoreless innings with one hit yielded and two strikeouts. Michael YaSenka yielded a solo home run before Gianluca Dalatri pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Chiefs added on with five more runs in the eighth inning. Aaron Antonini blasted a two-run shot, his sixth of the year. Luis Rodriguez and Carlos Soto scored on fielding errors. The Captains committed three miscues in the game.

Mack Chambers

Chambers went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Buchberger and Jones each had two hits. The lineup recorded 13 hits and nine walks. Somehow, the team scored 15 runs despite going just 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position.

Luis Rodriguez recorded his first hit in Peoria and came across to score.

After a rough week against Lake County, the Chiefs took the last game and are 11 games back of Cedar Rapids.

Palm Beach 5 at Daytona 7

The Palm Beach Cardinals (17-28) fell to the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 19-26) at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Sunday. Starter Inohan Paniagua threw 4 1/3 innings with four hits, three walks and six runs given up. Three of the runs were unearned with three errors committed by the Cardinals.

The Beach Birds scored in the first with an RBI from Aaron McKeithan but the Tortugas responded with one in the home half. Osvaldo Tovalin scored in the third after a wild pitch but Daytona responded once again in the bottom half.

Brady Whalen hit a two-run homer and McKeithan drove in another run in the fifth. The Tortugas responded with four runs in the home half.

Jose Moreno tossed two innings and surrendered one run on two hits and three walks. The right hander fanned two and took his second loss. Gustavo Rodriguez closed out the game with 1 2/3 flawless innings.

Osvaldo Tovalin

Tovalin went 3-for-5 including a triple with two runs scored and Whalen went 2-for-4 including a home run and two RBI. McKelthan also plated a pair. The Beach Birds struck out 13 times and went 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Palm Beach split the series with Daytona and are 12 games back of first place St. Lucie.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-2 on Saturday with a win by Memphis and two from Palm Beach. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is once again Memphis left fielder Alec Burleson who went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base. Other standouts include Luken Baker, Nathanael Heredia, Matt Chamberlain and Jake Burns.

Memphis 10, Iowa 5

The Memphis Redbirds (26-21) won in late innings over the Iowa Cubs (CHC, 23-23) on Saturday at AutoZone Park. Starter Johan Oviedo surrendered five runs on five hits and three walks. The right hander fanned eight in 5 1/3 innings.

Iowa opened the scoring with three in the second but the Redbirds responded with two in the home half. Luken Baker and Ben DeLuzio each drove in a run. Down 5-2 in the sixth, Memphis scored eight runs in the sixth through eighth innings.

Alec Burleson plated two and Paul DeJong brought in one to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth. The Redbirds took the lead in the seventh via a solo shot from Cory Spangenberg. In the eighth, Kramer Robertson ran home on a throwing error and Luken Baker’s double cleared the loaded bases to make the score 10-5.

The bullpen was lights out with no runs and two hits allowed in 3 2/3 innings. Zach McAllister tossed 1 1/3 and gave up two hits and a walk. Brandon Waddell took his second win after a hitless 1 1/3 innings. Blake Parker closed out the game and struck out the side.

Burleson stayed hot with four hits, two RBI and one run scored. He is slashing .360/.394/.584/.978 in May. Spangenberg walked and came across three times. DeLuzio went 3-for-4 and Baker had four RBI. The Redbirds took eight walks and the Cubs were struck out 14 times.

The Redbirds were running on Saturday with six stolen bases. Kramer Robertson and Evan Mendoza each had two. Burleson and Spangenberg both took one.

Sunday’s game: vs. Iowa, TBA vs. TBA 6:35 CT

Springfield 3 at Tulsa 4 (10 innings)

The Springfield Cardinals (18-26) fell to the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 27-16) in extra innings at ONEOK Field on Saturday. Starter Dalton Roach gave up two runs, one earned, in six innings. The right hander yielded seven hits and struck out four.

With the Cardinals down 2-0 in the seventh, they tied the game. Nick Dunn was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and was followed by a walk from Malcom Nunez. With a tie score after the ninth, the contest went into extra innings.

In the 10^th, Justin Toerner drove in Nunez after he was placed on second. The Drillers had two men on with two outs and won the game with a single.

Garrett Williams struck out the side in the seventh inning. Grant Black tossed two scoreless innings with one hit and one walk surrendered. Freddy Pacheco took his fourth loss and second blown save of the season in the 10th inning.

The Cardinals offense only had three hits and three walks in 10 innings. Matt Koperniak, Jordan Walker and Nunez each recorded a hit. The lineup went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times.

Moisés Gómez and Dunn each stole a bag.

Sunday’s game: at Tulsa, RHP Kyle Leahy (2-4, 6.21) vs. LHP John Rooney (2-1, 4.50) 7:05 CT

Peoria 1, Lake County 4

For the fifth straight game, the Peoria Chiefs (17-27) lost to the Lake County Captains (CLE, 23-20) at Dozer Park. Saturday’s score was 4-1. Starter Austin Love tossed five innings with two runs surrendered on seven hits and two walks. The right hander fanned five and took his fifth loss.

The lone Chiefs run came in the sixth inning via a solo shot off the bat of Todd Lott, his first since rejoining Peoria.

Nathanael Heredia

Nathanael Heredia threw three innings with one unearned run given up. The left hander struck out four. Colin Schmid pitched the ninth inning with one unearned run yielded and two walks. The 24-year-old struck out three batters.

The Chiefs walked five times but had only two hits. Thomas Francisco wore the golden sombrero with four strikeouts in four at-bats. Three errors were committed in the infield – from Lott, Francisco Hernandez and Ramon Mendoza.

Hernandez stole a bag and Tommy Jew recorded an outfield assist.

Sunday’s game: vs. Lake County, RHP Logan Gragg (1-4, 5.35) vs. TBA 6:35 CT

Palm Beach 6 at Daytona 5 (7 innings, Game 1)

The Palm Beach Cardinals (16-27) edged the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 18-25) in Game 1 of the doubleheader at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Saturday. Starter Bryan Pope surrendered five runs, four earned, in two innings. The right hander struck out three.

With the Beach Birds down 5-0 after the second, they scored six runs over the fourth through sixth innings. Matt Chamberlain brought in two in the fourth and Osvaldo Tovalin hit a three-run shot to tie the game in the fifth. Sander Mora brought in the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Andrew Marrero threw two scoreless innings with three walks, fanning five. Nelfri Contreras recorded his second win after his two innings with one hit and two strikeouts. Roy Garcia pitched the final inning with one hit given up and three strikeouts.

Osvaldo Tovalin

Tovalin brought in three and Chamberlain scored two. Every Cardinal run was scored with two outs.

The Tortugas had a historic game with eight stolen bases against the Beach Birds pitchers and catcher Wade Stauss, four from right fielder Blake Dunn.

Palm Beach 8 at Daytona 4 (7 innings, Game 2)

The Palm Beach Cardinals (17-27) topped the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 18-26) at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in the doubleheader nightcap. Starter Carlos Guarate surrendered three runs on four hits and a walk in three innings. The 21-year-old fanned four.

Palm Beach had a six-run third inning and added two more over the fourth and fifth. Brady Whalen brought in two and Chamberlain scored one. Jake Burns recorded an RBI double and Brandon Hernandez added two more with a ground-rule double. Chamberlain plated one in the fourth and Burns scored in the fifth after a throwing error.

Hayes Heinecke recorded his first win after one unearned run was given up in 2 2/3 innings. The left hander yielded three hits and struck out five. Alex Cornwell saved his first game with a hitless 1 1/3 innings.

The Beach Birds went 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position and recorded 11 hits. Chamberlain, Tyler Reichenborn and Aaron McKeithan had two hits apiece. Burns reached base four times on two hits and two walks. In fact, every Cardinal reached base at least once.

Memphis 5, Iowa 8 (completion of 5/25 game)

The Memphis Redbirds (23-21) fell to the Iowa Cubs (CHC, 23-20) with five runs given up in the final two innings. With Wednesday’s game suspended in the eighth inning, the contest was completed on Thursday.

Zack Thompson took the mound for the Redbirds and went five innings with one run yielded on two hits and four walks. The left hander struck out six. James Naile surrendered two runs on four hits in two innings.

Memphis scored four of their five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Luken Baker plated one and Ben DeLuzio brought in two in the fourth. Paul DeJong drove in one in the fifth. With a tie game in the eighth and two opposing runners on base, the game was suspended due to rain.

The Cubs scored five runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Blake Parker was charged with four runs on four hits and a walk in the eighth. As [play resumed, Kyle Ryan gave up one run in the ninth. Parker took his second loss of 2022.

Luken Baker hit a solo shot in the ninth but the Redbirds could not get anyone else across.

The lineup went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Conner Capel and Baker had two hits each. Baker drove in two and came home twice.

Ben DeLuzio stole his eighth bag of the year.

Memphis 7, Iowa 5 (10 innings)

The Memphis Redbirds (24-21) walked-off the Iowa Cubs (CHC, 23-21) in the 10th inning at AutoZone Park on Thursday. Starter Connor Thomas tossed 5 2/3 innings and yielded all five Cubs runs on nine hits and three walks.

Alec Burleson started his four RBI game with one in the third inning. Luken Baker also plated one to take the lead, 2-1.

With the Redbirds down 3-2 in the fifth, Burleson tied it with an RBI double. Cory Spangenberg brought in two and made the score 5-3. The Cubs tied it in the sixth on a long ball.

The bullpen pitched the final 4 1/3 innings and gave up no runs. Zach McAllister threw 1 and 1/3 innings and was charged with no hits. Jake Walsh tossed the eighth and ninth and surrendered two hits and one walk. Brandon Waddell took his first win with a hitless 10th inning.

Burleson was the hero on Thursday with a two-run homer in the 10th inning, his 10th of the season.

Springfield 6 at Tulsa 8

The Springfield Cardinals (17-24) fell to the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 25-15) at ONEOK Field on Thursday. Michael McGreevy made his Springfield debut and took a loss. TCN’s no. 7 prospect surrendered six runs on 10 hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings. Four of the six runs came on three long balls.

Moisés Gómez plated one in the first but the Drillers drove in five runs in the first three innings. In the fifth, Masyn Winn scored on a wild pitch. Nick Dunn came home on a groundout from Delvin Pérez in the sixth.

Sean Kealey tossed 2 2/3 innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks. The left hander fanned five. Grant Black threw the final inning and yielded no hits with two strikeouts.

The Cardinals were down 8-3 in the ninth but mounted a comeback. Chandler Redmond and Pérez reached base and Winn drove them in with an inside-the-park home run, his first in Double-A.

In his second game in Springfield, Winn went 2-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. The lineup went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times.

Pérez committed his ninth error of the season. Koperniak recorded an outfield assist.

Peoria 2, Lake County 3

The Peoria Chiefs (17-25) lost to the Lake County Captains (CLE, 21-20) after a late comeback attempt fell short at Dozer Park on Thursday. In his starting debut, John Beller tossed a hitless 3 1/3 innings and gave up only one walk and fanned seven.

Aaron Antonini hit a solo shot in the second to give Peoria a 1-0 lead. The Captains had a three-run fifth inning against Nick Trogrlic-Iverson. The right hander gave up four hits, two walks and took his second loss of 2022.

The rest of the bullpen was charged with no hits and no walks. Leonardo Taveras tossed two innings with four strikeouts. New Chief Andre Granillo threw one inning and fanned two. The pitching staff struck out 14 batters.

Jacob Buchberger drove in Mack Chambers in the eighth to cut the lead at 3-2. In the ninth, the Chiefs had two runners on with no outs. After a questionable call for Tommy Jew to steal third, he was caught and Francisco Hernandez did not advance to second. Peoria could not drive in Hernandez and the contest concluded with the Chiefs’ third straight loss to the visiting Captains.

Mike Antico stole his Midwest League-leading 20th bag of the year. Buchberger took his sixth base of 2022.

Wasting a strong performance from the pitching staff, the Chiefs could only score two runs. They went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position and struck out 10 times.

Friday’s game: vs. Lake County, RHP Dionys Rodriguez (0-4, 4.54) vs. RHP Gavin Williams (2-1, 1.54) 6:35 CT

Palm Beach 7 at Daytona 5

The Palm Beach Cardinals (15-27) topped the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 18-24) on Thursday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Chris Gerard tossed five innings and gave up two runs on five hits and three walks. The left hander fanned three and recorded his second win.

The Beach Birds scored in the first off the bat of Brady Whalen but the Tortugas responded with one in the home half. The Cardinals scored two in the second with back-to-back homers from Darlin Moquete and Aaron McKeithan.

Palm Beach scored four runs over the fifth through seventh innings. Osvaldo Tovalin hit a two-run shot in the fifth. Adanson Cruz plated one in the sixth and Matt Chamberlain drove in one in the seventh.

Jose Moreno threw two innings of relief and was charged with two runs on five hits. The right hander fanned three. Edgar Manzo recorded his first save with one run yielded in two innings. He struck out four. The pitching staff fanned 10 but was responsible for 12 hits.

Tovalin went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Chamberlain, Moquete and Sander Mora all recorded two hits. The lineup recorded 13 hits and every player in the lineup had at least one.

The Memphis Redbirds (22-20) ended a four-game losing skid against the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL, 21-21) on Sunday at Coolray Field.

Starter Johan Oviedo went a solid five innings and gave up a just solo shot. The right hander recorded his fourth win and yielded two hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.

The offense was led by Lars Nootbaar, who had three home runs and seven RBI. Nootbaar hit a solo shot in the first but was answered in the home half to tie the game at one. The right fielder blasted a two-run homer in the third and Conner Capel plated one as Memphis took a  4-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Nootbaar came up to bat with the bases loaded, and hit a grand slam. Alec Burleson drove in Paul DeJong to make the score 9-1.

Kyle Ryan hit some trouble with two runs and four hits given up in 2/3 of the sixth inning. Cape Girardeau native James Naile tossed 1 1/3 innings and was responsible for one run, one hit and a walk.

The Redbirds added one more run in the ninth with an RBI from Capel.

Zach McAllister and Blake Parker each threw a scoreless inning to close out the game. McAllister was charged with one hit and two strikeouts. Parker went 1-2-3 on five pitches.

Nootbaar was 3-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBI. Burleson’s bat stayed hot with three hits including two doubles, two runs scored and his 30th RBI of the season.

Capel went 4-for-5 with two RBI, Evan Mendoza had three hits and Ali Sánchez had two. The lineup recorded 16 hits and left only six runners on base.

Capel stole his ninth bag of the season and Mendoza swiped his fourth.

The Redbirds went 2-4 at Gwinnett this week after multiple players were called up to St. Louis. They sit seven games back of first place Nashville.

Springfield 1 at Wichita 2

The Springfield Cardinals (16-23) were walked-off by the Wichita Wind Surge (MIN, 23-14) on Sunday at Riverfront Stadium. Domingo Robles tossed 5 2/3 innings and yielded only one run on five hits and three walks.

The first Cardinal run came in the sixth inning off the bat of Julio Rodriguez. The Wind Surge tied the game on a balk with the bases loaded by Grant Black. The run was the only one charged to Robles.

Black went 1 1/3 innings and gave up one hit and one walk. Ryan Loutos surrendered the game winning run in the ninth and took his first Double-A loss. He tossed 1 1/3 innings and was charged with one hit and a walk.

After scoring nine runs Saturday, the Cardinals could only plate one. Delvin Pérez recorded the only multi-hit game with two. Nick Raposo was on base three times with a hit and two walks. The lineup went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and struck out 13 times.

Rodriguez took a bag and Pérez stole his ninth of the year.

The Cardinals went 2-4 against the Storm Surge this week and sit in last place of the Texas League North, 8 ½ games behind first-place Tulsa.

Peoria 5 at Beloit 1

The Peoria Chiefs (17-22) topped the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 12-27) on Sunday at ABC Supply Stadium. Austin Love tossed five innings and surrendered one run on six hits and six strikeouts. The right hander won his second game of 2022.

Mike Antico put one on the board in the first but the Sky Carp responded with one in the home half. The Chiefs scored one run in each of the fifth through seventh innings and the ninth.

Aaron Antonini plated Tommy Jew in the fifth and Matt Chamberlain hit his second homer of the season in the sixth. Masyn Winn brought in Jew in the seventh and Antico added one more in the ninth with a double.

The bullpen was very solid with only one hit given up in four innings. John Beller threw two innings and struck out three. Nathanael Heredia went 1-2-3 in the eighth and Gianluca Dalatri surrendered the lone hit in the ninth.

Masyn Winn

With the help of three Sky Carp errors, Peoria scored five times on eight hits. Winn went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. TCN’s no. 5 prospect is batting .349 with a .970 OPS in 129 at bats. Antonini and Jew each had two hits and Antico drove in two. Three of the five runs came via sacrifice flies.

Francisco Hernandez stole his eighth bag of the year.

The Chiefs won the series 4-2 at the Sky Carp this week. They are in fourth place, nine games back of first place Cedar Rapids.

Palm Beach 5, Bradenton 6

The Palm Beach Cardinals (14-25) fell to the Bradenton Marauders (PIT, 19-20) on Sunday at Roger Dean Stadium. Inohan Paniagua took the bump and went five innings with one run given up on six hits and two walks. The right hander struck out six.

The Beach Birds scored two runs over the fifth and sixth innings. Aaron McKeithan plated Osvaldo Tovalin in the fourth and Brandon Hernandez scored Sander Mora in the fifth. With the Cardinals up 2-1, the Marauders scored five runs in the sixth inning.

Edwin Nunez surrendered five runs on four hits and three walks in 2/3 of an inning. The right hander took his first loss and blown save of 2022. Jose Moreno tossed three scoreless innings with one hit and three walks given up. Bryan Pope secured the final out on a strikeout.

Palm Beach slowly came back with three runs over the seventh and eighth innings. Ramon Mendoza scored on an error in the seventh. Jeremy Rivas drove in one and Brady Whalen came across on a double play in the eighth.

Tovalin, Whalen, McKeithan and Mora recorded two hits each. The lineup drew no walks, but had 11 hits and went 3-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Even with three Marauders errors, the Beach Birds only scored five times.

The Cardinals split the series 3-3 with the Marauders and are 12 games back of St. Lucie.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-3 on Saturday with wins by Springfield and Palm Beach. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Alec Burleson who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for Memphis. Other standouts include Ben DeLuzio, Freddy Pacheco, Osvaldo Tovalin and Jeremy Rivas.

Memphis 5 at Gwinnett 6

After a late comeback attempt fell short on Saturday at Coolray Field, the Memphis Redbirds (21-20) fell to the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL, 21-20),  the visitors’ fourth consecutive loss.

Aaron Brooks took the mound for the Redbirds and surrendered five of the six Stripers runs. The right-hander went four innings and yielded six hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Three of the five runs came via a long ball. Brooks took his second loss. Packy Naughton pitched two innings and gave up one run and two hits.

Memphis struck first with one run in the first inning off the bat of Alec Burleson. The Stripers answered with five in the third to make the score 5-1. The Redbirds slowly came back with one run innings.

Burleson hit his ninth homer of the season in the fourth and Ben DeLuzio scored in the fifth. Conner Capel plated one in the eighth and DeLuzio hit a solo shot in the ninth to finalize the score at 6-5.

Brandon Waddell and Jake Walsh tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth, respectively. Waddell let two on but fanned two and Walsh threw a 1-2-3 frame and struck out one.

The Redbirds recorded 10 hits and three walks but only five scored. Burleson went 3-for-4 with two RBI, Paul DeJong had two hits with two runs scored and DeLuzio had two hits with two RBI. The lineup went 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

DeLuzio, DeJong and Scott Hurst each stole a bag.

Sunday’s game: at Gwinnett, RHP Johan Oviedo (3-2, 5.67) vs. TBA 12:05 CT

Springfield 9 at Wichita 7

The Springfield Cardinals (16-22) topped the Wichita Wind Surge (MIN, 22-14) on Saturday at Riverfront Stadium as the home club scored seven unanswered runs to make what looked like a blowout close.

Starter Kyle Leahy gave up three runs on eight hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings. The right hander fanned six and recorded his second win.

The Cardinals scored four runs in both the second and fourth innings. Todd Lott and Delvin Perez each plated one, Nick Dunn added two more in the second.

Malcom Nunez and Jonah Davis each drove in one in the fourth. Davis scored on a fielding error and Pedro Pages plated one. Matt Koperniak hit his fifth homer of the season in the sixth to increase the lead to 9-0.

Kevin Marnon came in relief for Leahy but could not record an out. He yielded three runs on a hit and three walks. Johan Quezada tossed an inning and surrendered one run on one hit and four walks. The right hander fanned two.

Freddy Pacheco threw a perfect 1 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. The 24-year-old recorded his sixth save.

Along with three errors committed by Wichita, the Cardinals recorded eight hits, drew four walks and scored nine times. Koperniak and Lott had two hit nights. The lineup went 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The pitching staff was responsible for 10 hits and 11 walks. The Wind Surge left 13 runners on base.

Sunday’s game: at Wichita, LHP Domingo Robles (1-1, 4.54) vs. RHP Matt Canterino (0-1, 2.59) 1:05 CT

Peoria 2 at Beloit 10

The Peoria Chiefs (16-22) were crushed by the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 12-26) at ABC Supply Stadium on Saturday.

Starter Dionys Rodriguez tossed 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on three hits and two walks. The right hander fanned five and took his fourth loss.

The two Chiefs runs were scored in the fifth and sixth innings. Tommy Jew brought in Mack Chambers and Francisco Hernandez plated Mike Antico.

Every bullpen pitcher used surrendered at least one run. Levi Prater yielded one run on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. Colin Schmid threw one inning and was responsible for a three-run home run.  Enmanuel Solano gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks.

Antico and Hernandez recorded two hits each. The lineup went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position and both runs came on two outs.

Sunday’s game: at Beloit, RHP Austin Love (1-4, 7.54) vs. RHP Chris Mokma 1:05 CT

Palm Beach 7, Bradenton 3 (7 innings, Game 1)

The Palm Beach Cardinals (14-23) surpassed the Bradenton Marauders (PIT, 17-20) at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Starter Chris Gerard could only go 3 2/3 innings after he gave up three runs on six hits and three walks.

The Beach Birds struck first with four runs in the first. Brady Whalen and Jeremy Rivas each plated one and Darlin Moquete recorded his first hit of the season to drive in two.

Edgar Manzo tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings but yielded three hits and two walks. The right hander took his first win of the season. Andre Granillo threw the final inning and surrendered one hit and no runs.

With the lead cut down to 4-3 in the fifth, the Cardinals added on three more over the fifth and sixth innings. Osvaldo Tovalin and Rivas both brought in one. Tovalin plated one more in the sixth to increase the lead to 7-3.

Both teams recorded 10 hits, but Palm Beach scored seven times. Tyler Reichenborn, Tovalin and Rivas had two hits each. The top four in the lineup recorded seven hits. Tovalin, Rivas and Moquete each drove in two.

Palm Beach 1, Bradenton 13 (7 innings, Game 2)

The Palm Beach Cardinals (14-24) were squashed by the Bradenton Marauders (PIT, 18-20) in the makeup game from Friday, to split the doubleheader.

All five pitchers used by the Beach Birds were scored upon. Roy Garcia took his fourth loss and only went 2 1/3 innings, yielding two runs on three hits and three walks. Hayes Heinecke’s inning of work included four runs on five hits. Ludwin Jimenez could not make an out and surrendered two runs on a hit and three walks. Gustavo Rodriguez tossed 2 2/3 innings and was responsible for one run on two hits and four strikeouts. Alex Cornwell closed the game with three runs given up on two hits and two walks.

The lone Cardinal run came off the bat of Tyler Reichenborn, who flied into a double play to bring in Adanson Cruz.

The Beach Birds mustered only two hits and two walks. The lineup struck out nine times in seven innings. Brady Whalen and Cruz recorded the only hits.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-3 on Thursday with Peoria taking the lone win. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Peoria shortstop Masyn Winn who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Other standouts include Paul DeJong, Ryan Loutos, Mike Antico and Tink Hence.

Memphis 3 at Gwinnett 5

The Memphis Redbirds (21-18) fell to the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL, 19-20) in a Thursday night contest at Coolray Field. Nolan Gorman was out of the lineup after he was called up to St. Louis before the game.

Starter Zack Thompson took his first loss of the season after five runs were surrendered. The left hander gave up six hits, one walk and struck out seven in six innings. Blake Parker and Kodi Whitley tossed the final two hitless and scoreless frames.

Scoring began in the fifth inning when the Stripers plated three. The Redbirds responded with three runs in the sixth. Kramer Robertson hit his fifth homer of the year. Paul DeJong singled and Alec Burleson tied the game with a two-run home run.

Gwinnett came back with two runs in the home half to make the score 5-2.

DeJong recorded two of the five Redbird hits and walked once. The lineup struck out 13 times and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Springfield 5 at Wichita 6

The Springfield Cardinals (14-22) were edged by the Wichita Wind Surge (MIN, 22-12) on Thursday at Riverfront Stadium. Dalton Roach had a rough night on the bump with five runs given up in 4 1/3 innings. Four of the five runs came on the long ball. He yielded nine hits, one walk and struck out two.

The Cardinals struck first with a run off the bat of Moisés Gómez in the third. Wichita answered back in the home half. In the fifth, Jordan Walker hit his 10th double of the season to drive in a run. The Wind Surge responded with four runs in the bottom half.

New Springfield Cardinal Ryan Loutos was strong once again with 2 2/3 scoreless innings. The right hander yielded no hits and struck out two.

Springfield mounted a comeback in the eighth with three runs. Nick Dunn doubled to clear the loaded bases to tie the game 5-5. Once again, the Wind Surge plated one in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead.

Sean Kealey surrendered the game-winning run, a solo homer. The right hander took his second loss of the season.

The Cardinals recorded nine hits, two each from Walker, Gómez and Dunn. The lineup went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position and walked only once.

Friday’s game: at Wichita, RHP Connor Lunn (2-3, 4.70) vs. RHP Blayne Enlow (0-0, 4.91) 7:05 CT

Peoria 5 at Beloit 3

The Peoria Chiefs (15-21) topped the Beloit Sky Carp (MIA, 11-25) on Thursday night at ABC Supply Stadium.

Starter Michael McGreevy went six solid innings with only two runs given up. TCN’s no. 7 prospect yielded seven hits, two walks, six strikeouts and earned his third win.

The Chiefs scored twice in the first inning to take the lead. Aaron Antonini scored Masyn Winn and Francisco Hernandez plated Mike Antico. They added on two more in the fifth with RBIs from Mike Antico and L.J. Jones. Mack Chambers drove in one more in the fifth to make the score 5-2.

Michael YaSenka tossed 2 1/3 innings of relief and surrendered one run on two hits and two strikeouts. John Beller threw the final 2/3 of an inning and fanned three. The left hander struck out a batter with two outs but it was a wild pitch. It did not matter as he fanned the final batter and recorded his third save.

Winn went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, Antico went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs and Antonini recorded two hits and an RBI. The first three batters in the lineup had seven of the 10 hits.

Friday’s game: at Beloit, RHP Gordon Graceffo (2-2, 1.13) vs. TBA 6:35 CT

Palm Beach 0, Bradenton 4

The Palm Beach Cardinals (13-23) were shut out by the Bradenton Marauders (PIT, 17-19) at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday night.

Starter Tink Hence yielded one run in his 2022 debut. He gave up one hit, one walk and fanned five in three innings. The right hander took his first loss.

Alex Cornwell tossed two scoreless frames and surrendered two hits with two strikeouts.

In a 1-0 game in the ninth inning, shortstop Jeremy Rivas committed three fielding errors and three Bradenton runs resulted. Previously announced starter Carlos Guarate threw the final four innings and was charged with three runs, all unearned, on four hits and two walks. The right hander fanned five.

The Beach Birds only had four hits and Osvaldo Tovalin had two of them. Brady Whalen and Sander Mora recorded the other two. The Cardinals could not get a runner in scoring position all evening.

In his Cardinals debut, Darlin Moquete went 0-for-3. Hence had a very solid outing in his first full-season action.

Memphis 5 at Norfolk 4

The Memphis Redbirds (20-16) edged the Norfolk Tides (BAL, 15-21) on Sunday at Harbor Park. It was a bullpen game with six different pitchers used, none of whom were scheduled starter Aaron Brooks.

The Tides scored in the first inning against Angel Rondón. The right hander tossed two innings and surrendered a two-run homer.

The Redbirds responded in the second with two runs to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Cory Spangenberg drove in one on a ground ball to the shortstop. Evan Mendoza scored on a wild pitch.

Zach McAllister threw one inning and gave up a solo shot. The right hander yielded the one hit and one walk. Kyle Ryan pitched a scoreless 1 2/3 innings with one hit and two walks given up. He struck out two and recorded his second win.

With the Redbirds down 3-2 in the fifth, they scored two runs to take the lead. Ali Sánchez plated one and Alec Burleson brought in the go-ahead run.

Blake Parker, Thomas Parsons and Kodi Whitley closed out the final 4 1/3 innings. Parker went 1 1/3 scoreless innings and was charged with one hit. Parsons pitched one scoreless inning and yielded one hit. Whitley tossed the final two innings and allowed a solo homer. He recorded his first save since rejoining the team last week.

Nolan Gorman added a run with his 14th home run of the year in the seventh. The Tides scored one in the eighth but the Redbirds held on.

Gorman went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. TCN’s no. 1 prospect also stole his third bag of the season. The lineup struck out 11 times and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position but found just enough offense and pitching to win.

Memphis went 5-1 in Norfolk this week and sit 4.5 games back of first place Nashville.

Springfield 7, Amarillo 6 (11 innings)

The Springfield Cardinals (14-19) walked-off the Amarillo Sod Poodles (ARI, 17-16) in the 11th inning on Sunday at Hammons Field. Matt Koperniak drove in the game winning run.

In the seventh. Chandler Redmond hit his fifth homer of the year and Irving Lopez doubled to tie the game at 2-2.

Cardinals manager Jose Leger was ejected and a balk was awarded to the Sod Poodles. Pacheco went 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits. The right hander fanned four.

The Sod Poodles and Cardinals went back and forth with two runs in both the ninth and 10th innings. Pedro Pages and Malcom Nunez each hit solo home runs in the ninth to tie the game at four apiece.

With the Cardinals down 6-4 in the 10th, Chase Pinder drove in a run and Moisés Gómez hit his MiLB-leading 15th home run of the season to tie the game once again.

Koperniak pinch hit for Roberto Baldoquin in the 11th and drove in Nick Dunn to win the game.

Grant Black recorded his second win of the season with a scoreless and hitless 11th inning. The right hander struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Redmond had the only multi-hit game for Springfield with two. Nunez went 1-for-2 with a hone run, two walks, two runs scored and an RBI. The Cardinals struck out 14 times and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Springfield split the series with Amarillo and are six games back of Wichita.

Peoria 3, Cedar Rapids 6

Despite solid relief work, the Peoria Chiefs (13-20) fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (MIN, 24-9) at Dozer Park on Sunday.

Starter Dionys Rodriguez tossed only four innings and gave up five runs on three hits and two walks. The right hander struck out three and took his third loss. Nathanael Heredia pitched two perfect innings and fanned four.

With the Chiefs down 5-0 in the fourth, they tried to mount a comeback, with three runs over the fourth through sixth innings. Carlos Soto brought in one with a double in the fourth. Mike Antico drove in Masyn Winn in the fifth and Soto scored one more in the sixth.

Colin Schmid yielded one run on a walk in one inning. The rest of the bullpen pitched hitless ball. Levi Prater and Nick Trogrlic-Iverson each went one scoreless inning. Trogrlic-Iverson fanned two.

Leadoff man Winn went 2-for-5 with a double and triple, scored one but also fanned three times. The Chiefs had eight hits, two walks and the Kernels committed four errors, but the home team could only score three runs. The lineup went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

The Chiefs went 1-5 against the Kernels this week and were outscored 47-12 in the process. Peoria is 11 games back of first place Cedar Rapids.

Palm Beach 0 at Fort Myers 6

The Palm Beach Cardinals (11-22) were shut out by the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (MIN, 20-10) on Sunday at Hammond Stadium.

Beach Birds starter Inohan Paniagua tossed a strong six innings with only one unearned run given up. The right hander yielded seven hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Paniagua took the hard luck loss, his third of the season.

Gustavo J. Rodriguez threw only 1/3 of an inning and allowed two runs on three hits and one walk. Andre Granillo pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and was charged with three runs on three hits and two walks. The right hander struck out two.

The Cardinals only recorded four hits and two walks. Osvaldo Tovalin had the only extra-base hit, a double, and also walked. The lineup struck out 11 times and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Center fielder Trejyn Fletcher fanned all three times up and since joining the club is 0-for-16 with every at-bat ending in a strike out.

Catcher Wade Stauss committed two throwing errors.

The Beach Birds went 0-6 against the Mighty Mussels and were outscored 28-6 in the series. Last-place Palm Beach (11-22) is 12 games behind first-place St. Lucie in the Florida State League East.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-3 on Saturday with a win from Memphis. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Springfield DH Chandler Redmond who went 3-for-4 including a three-run home run. Other standouts include Paul DeJong, Connor Thomas, Michael Brettell and John Beller.

Memphis 7 at Norfolk 2

The Memphis Redbirds (19-16) beat the Norfolk Tides (BAL, 15-20) on Saturday at Harbor Park for their fourth consecutive win. The bullpen started the game with regular starter Connor Thomas taking the final six innings.

James Naile tossed the first two innings and was charged with one unearned run on two hits. The right hander struck out four. Brandon Waddell threw one scoreless inning and struck out two.

Thomas had an impressive six innings with only one run given up. The left hander yielded three hits, one walk and 11 strikeouts. He recorded his second win.

The bats started early with four runs in the first two innings. Alec Burleson drove in one in the first but the Tides responded in the home half to tie the game. Cory Spangenberg hit an RBI double and Paul DeJong plated two with a double.

In the fourth, Scott Hurst scored on a fielding error to increase the lead to 5-1. DeJong brought in his third run in the eighth and Gorman added one more to make the lead 7-1. The Tides scored a run in the eighth but could not get any more against Thomas.

The Redbirds recorded 13 hits and five walks. Hurst, DeJong, Iván Herrera and Spangenberg had two hits each. DeJong drove in three in his third start for Memphis.

Capel stole his eighth bag of the season and Evan Mendoza took his first.

Sunday’s game: at Norfolk, RHP Aaron Brooks (0-1, 4.91) vs. LHP DL Hall (0-0, 3.00) 12:05 CT

Springfield 3, Amarillo 5

The Springfield Cardinals (13-19) fell to the Amarillo Sod Poodles (ARI, 17-15) at Hammons Field on Saturday.

Starter Dalton Roach went five innings and was charged with four runs on four hits and three walks. Three of the four runs came on the long ball. The right hander fanned seven and took his second loss.

The Cardinals scored all three runs in the first inning. Jordan Walker and Moisés Gómez singled and Chandler Redmond hit his fourth homer of the year to make the score 3-0.

The bullpen kept the Cardinals in the game with one unearned run given up over the final four innings. Sean Kealey yielded an unearned run on two hits. He struck out two and walked one over 1 1/3. Michael Brettell tossed a hitless 1 2/3 innings and Grant Black added a hitless ninth.

Springfield recorded seven hits with five by Walker and Redmond. Walker had two and Redmond had three and three RBI. The lineup went 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left six on base.

Walker committed his 11th error, half of what he had all last season.

Peoria 1, Cedar Rapids 7

The Peoria Chiefs (13-19) fell late to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (MIN, 23-9) on Saturday at Dozer Park.

TCN’s no. 14 prospect, Gordon Graccefo, started for Peoria. He went six innings and surrendered two runs, one earned, on five hits and one walk. The right hander struck out five and despite the quality start, took his second loss.

The only Chiefs run came in the sixth inning when they were down 2-0. Masyn Winn scored on a fielding error to cut the deficit to 2-1.

John Beller tossed two perfect innings with three strikeouts. The left hander’s WHIP went down to 0.76. Enmanuel Solano took the ninth inning and was responsible for five runs on four hits and one walk. A home run drove in three of the five runs.

The Chiefs offense recorded five hits and no walks. The lineup struck out 11 times and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Sunday’s game: vs. Cedar Rapids, RHP Dionys Rodriguez (0-2, 3.00) vs. RHP John Stankiewicz (1-0, 0.00) 1:35 CT

Palm Beach 4 at Fort Myers 10

The Palm Beach Cardinals (11-21) fell to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (MIN, 19-10) on Saturday at Hammond Stadium. It was their fifth consecutive defeat.

Cardinals starter Chris Gerard only went 1 1/3 innings and yielded four runs, two earned, on two hits and three walks. The lefty fanned two and took his second loss.

The Beach Birds scored first with an RBI single from Brady Whalen in the first inning. The Mighty Mussels then scored seven runs over the next four innings to pull away.

Roy Garcia threw 2 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on five hits and a walk. The right hander struck out two. Edgar Manzo tossed 2 1/3 innings and was responsible for two runs on four hits and two walks.

Osvaldo Tovalin plated Tyler Reichenborn and Whalen drove in Tovalin in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Edwin Nunez had a scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout but only after he walked the bases loaded. Ludwin Jimenez pitched the ninth and was charged with a solo home run. The right hander struck out two.

Palm Beach scored one more in the ninth off the bat of Patrick Romeri. The outfielder drove in Ryan Holgate to finalize the score 10-4.

The Cardinals recorded five hits and seven walks but could only score four. The lineup went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position and struck out 10 times. Whalen plated two.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-2 on Thursday with a win from Memphis. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Memphis first baseman Luken Baker who went 3-for-4 including two doubles and a run scored. Other standouts include Nolan Gorman, Matthew Liberatore, Drew VerHagen and L.J. Jones.

Memphis 5 at Norfolk 2

The Memphis Redbirds (17-16) topped the Norfolk Tides (BAL, 15-18) with a late comeback in the final innings at Harbor Park. Starter Matthew Liberatore pitched six innings with just one run given up. TCN’s no. 3 prospect yielded four hits, four walks and five strikeouts.

With the Redbirds down 1-0 in the fifth, Iván Herrera drove in Conner Capel to tie the score.

Angel Rondón tossed two innings and was responsible for one run, a homer, off the bat of top Orioles prospect Adley Rutschman. Rondón struck out two and thanks to the timing of his outing, recorded the win.

The Tides were up 2-1 after Rutschman’s home run but the Redbirds’ bats came alive in the final two innings. Nolan Gorman hit his 13th home run of the year as Memphis took the 3-2 lead in the eighth. Herrera and Cory Spangenberg each drove in one with doubles in the ninth to add insurance.

Brandon Waddell threw a scoreless ninth to record his second save. The left hander allowed no hits and struck out two.

The Redbirds recorded eight hits and three walks but struck out 14 times. Gorman and Cory Spangenberg each fanned three times. Gorman and Herrera had two RBI each and red-hot Luken Baker went 3-for-4 including two doubles with a run scored.

In 10 May games, the big first sacker has five home runs, nine RBI and is slashing .342/.375/.789/1.164.

Shortstop Paul DeJong went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in his first game back in Memphis.

Ben DeLuzio stole his second bag of the year.

Springfield 2, Amarillo 5 (10 innings)

The Springfield Cardinals (12-18) fell to the Amarillo Sod Poodles (ARI, 16-14) in 10 innings at Hammons Field.

Drew VerHagen started for the Cardinals on a rehab assignment. The veteran St. Louis right hander went two scoreless innings and struck out three. Regular starter Edgar Escobar came in relief and threw five innings with two runs given up. The 25-year-old yielded five hits and five strikeouts.

The Cardinals scored both of their runs in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Matt Koperniak scored Julio Rodriguez and Jordan Walker plated Irving Lopez. The Sod Poodles answered in the sixth to tie the score at two each. The game remained knotted until the 10th inning.

Johan Quezada threw a scoreless eighth inning and allowed no hits.

Freddy Pacheco tossed a scoreless ninth but could not get an out in the 10th inning. The right hander took the loss and was responsible for three runs, two earned, on two hits and four walks. Tyler Pike recorded the final three outs and was charged with no runs and one hit.

Chandler Redmond had two of the five Cardinal hits. The lineup went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times.

Friday’s game: vs. Amarillo, RHP Connor Lunn (2-3, 4.41) vs. LHP Blake Walston (0-1, 31.50) 6:35 CT

Peoria 1, Cedar Rapids 13

The Peoria Chiefs (12-18) were blown out by the Cedar Rapids Kernels (MIN, 22-8) at Dozer Park. Peoria is on a nine-game losing streak. TCN’s no. 5 prospect Masyn Winn had the night off.

Starter Logan Gragg threw 5 1/3 innings and surrendered five runs on eight hits and one walk. The right hander struck out eight and took his third loss of the season. Wilfredo Pereira tossed 2 2/3 innings and yielded four runs on four hits and one walk. Three of the four runs came on a home run.

The only Chiefs run came via a homer off the bat of L.J. Jones in the eighth inning, the outfielder’s first of the season.

Leonardo Taveras pitched the ninth inning and was charged with four runs on two hits and two walks. A home run plated three of the four runs.

Peoria recorded nine hits and went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Jones and Zade Richardson had two hits. The lineup struck out 16 times and took just three walks. The top three hitters in the lineup combined for nine strikeouts.

Richardson and Mack Chambers each stole a bag. Aaron Antonini had a rough night on the base paths after he was caught stealing and picked off. Matt Chamberlain recorded an outfield assist.

Friday’s game: vs. Cedar Rapids, RHP Michael McGreevy (1-1, 2.10) vs. LHP Cade Povich (2-1, 3.32) 6:35 CT

Palm Beach at Fort Myers postponed

Due to inclement weather, Thursday’s Palm Beach at. Fort Myers contest was postponed until  May 13th. Both Friday games will be seven-inning affairs.

The Memphis Redbirds (15-15) fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (MIA, 18-12) on Sunday at AutoZone Park.

The Jumbo Shrimp struck first off starter Connor Thomas. The left hander went six innings and surrendered four runs on six hits and two walks. The Cardinal Nation’s no. 20 prospect took his second loss of the season.

With the Redbirds down 4-0 in the sixth, Alec Burleson brought in Nolan Gorman with a double. Jacksonville answered back with a run in the seventh against Thomas Parsons, who yielded the run on a hit and a walk.

Down 6-1, the Redbirds tried to mount a comeback in the ninth but it was too little, too late. Clint Coulter and Justin Toerner each drove in a run to finalize the score at 6-3.

Memphis could not score against top Marlins prospect Edward Cabrera. Gorman and Burleson each had two hits. The lineup struck out 10 times and went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Kramer Robertson, Conner Capel, Cory Spangenberg and Gorman each stole a bag.

The Redbirds went just 1-5 at home against Jacksonville this week.

The Springfield Cardinals (11-16) fell late to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (KC, 14-13) on Sunday at Hammons Field.

The Naturals scored first off Cardinal starter Dalton Roach. The right hander went five innings and was responsible for five runs on seven hits and two walks. With the Cardinals down 5-0 in the sixth, they tied the score in the sixth through eighth.

Jordan Walker scored on an error and Moisés Gómez came home off the bat of Chandler Redmond. Walker drove in Todd Lott in the sixth. Julio Rodriguez hit a two-run shot, his second homer of the year, to tie the game 5-5 in the eighth inning.

Grant Black pitched two scoreless innings but gave up three hits and a walk. Johan Quezada threw a scoreless eighth inning and yielded no hits.

The Peoria Chiefs (12-15) were shut out by the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 15-12) on Sunday at Four Winds Field.

Starter Gordon Graceffo went six innings and yielded two runs on five hits. TCN’s no. 14 prospect walked none and struck out eight. He took his first loss of 2022.

The Mets scored first off starter Inohan Paniagua. The right hander went 5 2/3 innings and yielded two runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out seven and recorded his first win of 2022.

With the Beach Birds down 2-0 in the fifth, the bats came alive. Hansel Otamendi and Ryan Holgate doubled to tie the game. Tyler Reichenborn brought in Holgate to make it 3-2 at the end of the fifth. Brady Whalen hit his first homer of the season in the sixth and Jeremy Rivas scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-2.

The bullpen threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings to keep the lead. Hayes Heinecke tossed 2 1/3 innings and gave up only one walk. Andre Granillo recorded his second save and was charged with two hits.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-4 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Palm Beach left fielder Ramon Mendoza who went 2-for-4 with two walks, three RBI and three runs scored. Other standouts include Luken Baker, Michael Brettell and Jeremy Rivas.

Memphis 4 vs. Jacksonville 6

The Memphis Redbirds (15-14) fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (MIA, 17-12) on Saturday at AutoZone Park.

TCN’s no. 8 prospect Zack Thompson tossed 5 1/3 innings and yielded four runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks. The left hander struck out seven.

The Redbirds scored in the first inning with a solo homer from Nolan Gorman, his 12th of the year. Luken Baker hit his sixth home run and second in two games in the fourth to make it 2-0. The Jumbo Shrimp then took the lead with four runs over the fifth and sixth innings.

James Naile pitched 1 1/3 innings and was responsible for two runs on four hits. The right hander struck out two and took the loss. Kyle Ryan threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings and surrendered two hits. Zach McAllister tossed a scoreless ninth inning and was charged with one walk and two strikeouts.

Alec Burleson scored Kramer Robertson and Gorman in the sixth inning to tie the game at four. But the Jumbo Shrimp responded with two in the seventh against Naile to take the lead, 6-4.

Baker recorded the only multi-hit game with two. The Redbirds went 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position and struck out eight times.

Thompson and Evan Mendoza both recorded their first errors of 2022.

Springfield 0 vs NW Arkansas 4

The Springfield Cardinals (11-15) were shut out by the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (KC, 13-13) on Saturday at Hammons Field.

Right hander Connor Lunn started for the Cardinals and went five innings. The 23-year-old was charged with four runs on seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Lunn took the loss.

Michael Brettell tossed three scoreless innings and gave up only one hit. The right hander struck out three. Sean Kealey threw a scoreless ninth on one hit.

Matt Koperniak had two of the three Cardinal hits. Jonah Davis recorded the other. The Cardinals went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left four runners on base.

Sunday’s game: vs. NW Arkansas, RHP Dalton Roach (2-1, 4.23) vs. LHP Anthony Veneziano (1-4, 14.54) 6:05 CT

Peoria 2 at South Bend 3 (7 innings, Game 1)

The Peoria Chiefs (12-13) fell to the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 13-12) in Game 1 at Four Winds Field on Saturday.

Chiefs starter Logan Gragg threw five innings and surrendered two runs on three hits and two walks. The 6’5 right hander struck out four. Michael YaSenka pitched one scoreless inning and gave up only one walk.

The Chiefs scored both runs in the third inning. Masyn Winn scored Noah Mendlinger on a sacrifice bunt and an error on the pitcher. Jacob Buchberger plated Zade Richardson on a double play.

Gragg yielded three runs over the third and fourth innings and recorded his second loss.

Winn and Matt Chamberlain both had two hits. The lineup had seven hits but went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Peoria 0 at South Bend 4 (7 innings, Game 2)

The Peoria Chiefs (12-14) were shut out by the South Bend Cubs (CHC, 14-12) in Game 2 at Four Winds Field on Saturday. This was the makeup of Thursday’s rainout.

Michael McGreevy went six innings and allowed four runs on 11 hits. TCN’s number no. 7 prospect only struck out two. He took his first loss of the season.

Aaron Antonini had the only multi-hit game for the Chiefs with two. Jacob Buchberger and Thomas Francisco both recorded a hit.

The Chiefs only had four hits and two walks. The lineup struck out 10 times in seven innings.

Mike Antico stole two bags, bringing his Midwest League lead in stolen bases to 16. Antonini stole his third of the season.

Palm Beach 13 vs. St. Lucie 9

The Palm Beach Cardinals (10-16) outslugged the St. Lucie Mets (NYM, 18-8) on Saturday at Roger Dean Stadium.

In his first start, Chris Gerard pitched well. In four scoreless innings, he surrendered two hits and two walks. The left hander struck out three.

The Beach Birds struck first with two runs in the third off the bat of Jeremy Rivas. The Mets responded with a three-run fifth inning. The Cardinals took back the lead in the home half with a two-run homer from Ramon Mendoza.

In his 2022 debut, Edwin Nunez pitched the fifth inning and was charged with three runs on three hits and two walks. However, the Cardinals scored nine runs over the next three innings to pull ahead.

Tyler Reichenborn cleared the loaded bases in the sixth with a double. Luis Rodriguez and Aaron McKeithan each drove in one in the seventh. Mendoza scored one and Osvaldo Tovalin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Rivas added one in the seventh and Rodriguez hit his first home run of the season in the eighth to make it 13-4.

Roy Garcia tossed the sixth through eighth and yielded one run on four hits and one walk. The right hander struck out three and recorded his first win. Pitching the ninth with a 13-4 lead, Edgar Manzo gave up five runs on five hits. Three of the five runs came on two long balls.

The Cardinals recorded 14 hits and eight walks. The lineup went 6-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Reichenborn and Rivas drove in three each, as did Mendoza, who reached base four times on a single, home run and two walks and scored three times.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 0-2 on Thursday with postponements for Memphis and Peoria. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Hayes Heinecke, who struck out four in two perfect innings for Palm Beach. Other standouts include Moisés Gómez and Zane Mills.

Memphis vs. Jacksonville postponed

Due to inclement weather Thursday, the Memphis vs. Jacksonville contest at AutoZone Park will be played as a doubleheader on Friday, May 6th.

Springfield 6, NW Arkansas 9

The Springfield Cardinals (10-14) fell to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (KC, 12-12) at Hammons Field on Thursday.

Springfield struck first with four runs in the second inning. Todd Lott and Nick Dunn each drove in one. Delvin Pérez brought in two more but was called out at third when trying to stretch his double into a triple.

Domingo Robles started for the Cardinals and went five innings. The left hander surrendered two runs on eight hits and two walks.

With a score of 4-2 in the fifth, Moisés Gómez hit his 14th home run of the year to make it 5-2. The outfielder continues to lead both Major League and Minor League Baseball in home runs.

The Cardinals yielded seven runs in the fifth and sixth as the game got away from the home team. Grant Black only pitched 1/3 of an inning and was responsible for five runs, four earned, on three hits including two home runs. The right hander recorded his third loss and second blown save. Cory Thompson threw 1 2/3 innings and yielded two runs on five hits.

Jonah Davis hit his first homer of the year in the seventh to make the deficit 9-6. The bats could not get anything else in the final innings.

Michael Brettell and Freddy Pacheco tossed the final two scoreless innings. Brettell gave up no hits and struck out one. Pacheco surrendered one hit and struck out two. The pitching yielded 17 hits and four home runs on the night.

Gómez recorded the only multi-hit night with two. The lineup went 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times.

Jordan Walker stole his 10th bag of the year and Nick Dunn took his first.

Peoria at South Bend postponed

Palm Beach 3, St. Lucie 4 (11 innings)

The Palm Beach Cardinals (9-15) fell to the St. Lucie Mets (NYM, 17-7) in the 11th inning at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday.

Cardinals starter Zane Mills went seven innings and gave up three runs on six hits and one walk. The right hander struck out seven. Hayes Heinecke pitched a perfect two innings and struck out four. Andre Granillo struck out four in his two innings but recorded the loss due to an unearned run in the 11th.

The Beach Birds were down 3-0 in the bottom of the  ninth but came back to tie the score and force extra innings. Brandon Hernandez walked with the bases loaded. Ryan Holgate drove in one on a double play and Hansel Otamendi brought in the tying run with a single.

In the top of the 11th, with a runner placed on second, Granillo walked the first batter. After a defensive indifference play advanced the runners, the Mets brought in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

In the home 11^th, the Cardinals had Wade Stauss on third with no outs after a wild pitch but could not get him across.

Tyler Reichenborn went 2-for-4, the only multi-hit game for the Cardinals. The team went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base. Osvaldo Tovalin, Tyler Reichenborn and Hernandez all recorded an error.

Holgate stole his first bag of the year and Reichenborn was picked off.

Friday’s game: vs. St. Lucie, RHP Carlos Guarate (0-1, 3.86) vs. RHP Calvin Ziegler (0-1, 3.07) 5:30 CT

Memphis 3 at Durham 2

The Memphis Redbirds (14-10) beat the Durham Bulls (TB, 8-16) on Sunday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Redbirds used seven pitchers in the victory.

Durham scored first on a wild pitch by starter Zack Thompson. The left hander went just two innings due to a rain delay and gave up the one run on one hit and a walk. He struck out three. Long man Thomas Parsons recorded the win for the Redbirds. The 26-year-old threw two scoreless innings on three hits and one walk.

The Redbirds responded with a solo shot from Luken Baker in the fourth. The first baseman has three this season. Lars Nootbaar scored Ben DeLuzio with a sacrifice fly in the fifth as Memphis took a 2-1 lead.

Blake Parker and Zach McAllister each threw one inning and gave up no runs. Parker was charged with one hit but struck out three and McAllister yielded no hits and struck out three.

Memphis scored their third run off the bat of Justin Toerner in the seventh. The Bulls responded with a solo shot in the home half off Kyle Ryan. The left hander threw one inning and gave up only one hit, the home run.

Junior Fernández tossed a scoreless eighth and was charged with one hit and one walk. Jake Walsh recorded the save with one hit given up and three strikeouts in the ninth inning. Walsh has six saves in six opportunities this season.

Cory Spangenberg and Toerner both had two hits. Nolan Gorman went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as his hitting streak ended at 16 games. For the day, the Redbirds struck out 11 times and walked only once.

Despite seven pitchers used, Memphis only gave up two runs, which was the key to the win.

The Redbirds went 5-1 in the series at the Durham Bulls and sit in third place behind Nashville and Columbus.

The Springfield Cardinals (9-12) blanked the San Antonio Missions (SD, 7-14) on Sunday at Nelson Wolff Stadium.

Starter Connor Lunn threw five innings and gave up no runs on five hits and one walk. TCN’s no. 41 prospect struck out two and recorded the win.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the top of the second. Delvin Pérez and Jonah Davis each drove in one. Matt Koperniak topped it off with a two-run home run, his third of the year. Koperniak brought in one more in the fourth to make it 5-0.

Tyler Pike tossed three innings and gave up no runs and two hits. The left hander walked one and struck out two.

The Cardinals added one more in the top of the ninth off the bat of Malcom Nunez. Springfield went into the bottom of the ninth with a 6-0 lead.

Freddy Pacheco closed out the game and surrendered one hit and struck out one. His ERA went down to 2.08.

Jordan Walker and Nunez each went 2-for-4 with a walk. Right fielder Moisés Gómez struck out four times in five at-bats. The Cardinals walked six times and recorded 10 hits. Jonah Davis stole his first bag of the year and Chandler Redmond was picked off.

The Cardinals split the series with the Missions 3-3 and come back home with a 9-12 record.

Peoria 6, Wisconsin 4

The Peoria Chiefs (12-9) edged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL, 12-9) at Dozer Park on Sunday.

TCN’s no. 7 prospect Michael McGreevy started for the Chiefs and went 4 2/3 innings. The right hander gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits and one walk.

The Timber Rattlers scored three runs in the top of the fourth but the Chiefs responded with three runs in the home half. With the bases loaded, Masyn Winn hit his fifth triple of the season to clear the bases.

Peoria scored three more on solo home runs in the fifth. Matt Chamberlain hit his first of the season. Mack Chambers and Aaron Antonini went back-to-back to increase the lead to 6-3.

John Beller threw 2 2/3 innings of relief and gave up one run on two hits and two walks. The left hander struck out two and recorded the win. Ryan Loutos pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and recorded the save. The Washington-St. Louis alumni yielded one hit and struck out two.

Winn and Chamberlain both went 2-for-4 and walked once. The Chiefs walked seven times and only struck out six times. Antonini recorded the only error, a throwing miscue.

The Chiefs continue to run wild on the bases. Winn stole second and third in the first and brought his total to 10. Francisco Hernandez stole his fourth and Mike Antico stole his 11th bag of the season.

The Chiefs went 5-1 against the Timber Rattlers and sit in second place behind the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Palm Beach 0, Jupiter 1

The Palm Beach Cardinals (9-12) were blanked by the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA, 11-10) on Sunday at Roger Dean Stadium.

Jose Moreno started for the Cardinals and threw five innings. He gave up no runs on two hits and four walks. The right hander struck out six.

Chris Gerard yielded the only run in his 1 1/3 innings. The left hander yielded one run on two hits and two strikeouts and took the loss for the Beach Birds.

The rest of the bullpen gave up no hits over the final 2 2/3 innings. Roy Garcia pitched 1 2/3 and Gianluca Dalatri threw the final inning. Garcia struck out one and Dalatri fanned two.

The Beach Birds recorded five hits and three walks but could not get any across the plate. Jeremy Rivas had the only multi-hit game with two. Catcher Luis Rodriguez committed a throwing error in the first.

The Cardinals split the series with the Hammerheads 3-3 and sit in fourth place in the division.

The Memphis Redbirds (13-10) beat the Durham Bulls (TB, 8-15) on Saturday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Johan Oviedo threw very well in his seven innings. The right hander gave up no runs on three hits and one walk. He struck out eight and recorded the win.

The Redbirds bats came alive in the fourth inning with a Juan Yepez solo shot. In the fifth, Scott Hurst scored on a passed ball and Nolan Gorman hit his 11th home run of the season, tops in all of minor league ball. The second baseman also extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Ivan Herrera hit his second homer of the year in the sixth to make a 4-0 Redbirds lead.

Three more runs came in the bottom of the eighth with two RBI from Evan Mendoza and a bases loaded walk by Kramer Robertson.

Reliever James Naile only went 2/3 of an inning and gave up four runs on five hits. Brandon Waddell closed out the game with 1 1/3 innings and gave up no hits. The left hander recorded his first save.

With a 7-4 lead, Memphis gained insurance in the top of the ninth with a solo home run from Yepez and a three-run shot from Conner Capel. Yepez has eight long balls this season and Capel has four.

Yepez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and both Cory Spangenberg and Herrera recorded two hits. The lineup scored 11 runs on 12 hits and seven walks.

The Springfield Cardinals (8-12) fell to the San Antonio Missions (SD, 7-13) at Nelson Wolff Stadium on Saturday. Starter Garrett Williams threw a solid five innings with only one hit given up. The left hander struck out eight.

Every Springfield pitcher after Williams gave up at least one run as the 3-0 lead slipped away in the late innings. Edgar Escobar tossed 1 1/3 innings and yielded four runs on four hits and one walk. Johan Quezada secured two outs and gave up one run on one hit. Sean Kealey pitched the final inning and was charged with two runs on three hits. Escobar took his first loss of the season.

The Peoria Chiefs (11-9) outhit, outpitched and outscored the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL, 12-8) at Dozer Park on Saturday. Starter Logan Gragg pitched five innings and yielded one run on four hits and one walk. The 6-foot-5 right hander struck out six and recorded the win.

The Chiefs bats started early with seven runs in the first two innings. Matt Chamberlain plated one and two more were scored on a fielder’s choice and an error. Aaron Antonini launched a two-run home run to make it 5-0 in the first. Jacob Buchberger brought in Tommy Jew and Masyn Winn in the second to increase the lead to 7-0.

The Timber Rattlers scored one in the fourth. The Chiefs recorded a four-run bottom of the seventh. A throwing error scored Mike Antico and Aaron Antonini brought in Chamberlain. A wild pitch plated Mack Chambers and Carlos Soto brought in one more. Mike Antico hit a solo shot in the eighth to increase the lead to 12-1.

Nathanael Heredia tossed two scoreless innings and gave up two hits and two walks. Five of the six outs he recorded came via the strikeout. Michael YaSenka threw the final two innings and yielded one run on two hits. The right hander struck out two.

Winn, Antico and Buchberger all recorded two hits. The Chiefs scored 12 times on 11 hits and the Timber Rattlers committed four errors.

The base stealing continued on Saturday with Winn and Tommy Jew taking a bag. Winn stole his eighth and Jew took his seventh.

Palm Beach 2, Jupiter 1 (10 innings)

The Palm Beach Cardinals (9-11) walked off the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA, 10-10) on Saturday at Roger Dean Stadium. Palm Beach starter Carlos Guarate threw 4 1/3 innings and gave up one run on three hits and one walk. The 21-year-old struck out three.

The Beach Birds were down 1-0 in the third and did not respond until the sixth when Jeremy Rivas’ double brought in Osvaldo Tovalin.

The Palm Beach bullpen gave up no runs in 5 2/3 innings. Edgar Manzo pitched 2 2/3 innings and yielded two hits. The right hander struck out four. Hayes Heinecke tossed one-plus inning and walked three batters but also struck out three. Andre Granillo took over with the bases loaded and escaped. He remained for the final two innings and was charged with one hit and two walks. The 21-year-old struck out four.

With the game tied at one, it went into extra innings. Hansel Otamendi was placed at second and was moved over to third with a sacrifice bunt from Adanson Cruz. Tyler Reichenborn brought Otamendi in with a single to end the game.

Reichenborn recorded the only multi-hit game with two. The Beach Birds went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on. The pitching struck out 14 batters and yielded only one run.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-3 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Palm Beach starter Trent Baker. The 2021 draftee went seven scoreless and struck out eight for his first career victory. Other standouts include Dionys Rodriguez and Tyler Pike.

Memphis 2 at Durham 8

The Memphis Redbirds (11-10) fell to the Durham Bulls (TB, 8-13) on Thursday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Starter T.J. Zeuch only pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up six runs on 11 hits and one walk. The right hander struck out three as his ERA rose to 11.64. James Naile yielded one run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Kyle Ryan threw one inning and gave up one run on two hits. Thomas Parsons pitched the final inning and yielded no hits with one strikeout.

Memphis struck quickly with RBI from Juan Yepez (double) and Ali Sanchez (single) in the first inning. The Bulls answered with one in the bottom of the first and six more over the third, fourth and fifth.

Conner Capel recorded the only multi-hit game for the Redbirds with a single and a double. Nolan Gorman singled, increasing his hitting streak to 15 games. The lineup went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base. Zeuch took his fourth loss of the year.

Kramer Robertson stole his fifth bag of the season.

Springfield 0 at San Antonio 1

The Springfield Cardinals (7-11) were blanked by the San Antonio Missions (SD, 6-12) on Thursday at Nelson Wolff Stadium.

Starter Kyle Leahy went five innings and gave up one run on four hits. The 24-year-old struck out five and walked one in his best outing of 2022 to date. Tyler Pike pitched the final three innings with his only baserunner a hit-by-pitch. The left hander struck out six while keeping his team in the game, but the Springfield offense could not break through

The Missions scored their only run in the second via a sacrifice fly. The Cardinals offense had only four hits on the night.

Red hot Moisés Gómez went 2-for-3 with a walk. Pedro Pages and Roberto Baldoquin recorded the other two hits. Springfield left eight runners on base and Leahy took the hard-luck loss, his third of the season.

Peoria 2, Wisconsin 6

The Peoria Chiefs (9-9) fell late to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL, 12-6) at Dozer Park on Thursday.

Dionys Rodriguez started for the Chiefs and went six strong innings. The right hander gave up one run, a solo home run, and six hits. He struck out eight. Levi Prater pitched only 1/3 of an inning and yielded five runs, four earned, on two hits and two walks.

The only runs for the Chiefs came in the seventh inning and later when they were already down 6-0. Francisco Hernandez recorded an RBI single in the seventh and Mack Chambers’ single in the ninth finished the scoring.

Nick Trogrlic-Iverson tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief on two hits and struck out two. Colin Schmid pitched the final inning and yielded no hits and struck out two.

L.J. Jones recorded the only multi-hit night with a single and double. The Chiefs struck out 10 times and went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Rodriguez took his first loss of the season.

Starter Trent Baker went seven strong innings and gave up two hits, no walks and no runs. The right hander struck out eight in recording his first professional win. Chris Gerard pitched one inning and walked two and struck out one. Andrew Marrero tossed the final frame and gave up one run on one hit and one walk.

Ryan Holgate got the Chiefs on the board in the third with an RBI triple. Trying to stretch it an inside-the-park home run, the outfielder was tagged out at home.

The Beach Birds scored seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Luis Rodriguez hit an RBI double and Tyler Reichenborn plated two more with a single. Osvaldo Tovalin and Adanson Cruz drove in one each. Reichenborn and Tovalin added RBI in the eighth.

Reichenborn went 2-for-4 with three driven in and Tovalin was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Holgate and Franklin Soto each went 2-for-4. The Cardinals recorded 12 hits compared to Jupiter’s three.

Reichenborn stole his first base of the year.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-3 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is catcher Pedro Pages. TCN’s no. 39 prospect went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a stolen base in Springfield’s win over Tulsa. Other Sunday standouts included Alec Burleson and Jeremy Rivas.

Memphis 7, Omaha 9

The Memphis Redbirds (9-9) fell to the Omaha Storm Chasers (KC, 9-9) on Sunday at AutoZone Park. The clubs split the six-game series.

All nine of the Storm Chasers’ runs came in the first two innings, starting with eight in the first. Starter Johan Oviedo went only 2/3 of an inning and gave up six runs on five hits and one walk. Four of the six runs came via the long ball. Thomas Parsons pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief. The right hander yielded three runs on five hits and one walk. He struck out three.

The Redbirds bats came alive in the fourth with Nolan Gorman’s eighth homer of the year, a two-run shot. Ali Sanchez scored Alec Burleson to make the deficit 9-3.

Alec Burleson hit his fifth home run of the year in the seventh and Juan Yepez drove in Brendan Donovan in the eighth. The score was 9-5 going into the ninth.

The bullpen was strong in the final six innings with no runs allowed. James Naile went two innings and surrendered two hits and one walk. Brandon Waddell pitched two innings and gave up one hit. Kyle Ryan yielded one hit and struck out two in his inning of work. Junior Fernández closed out the ninth with no hits and one strikeout.

Burleson went 2-for-4 with the only multi-hit game for the Redbirds. Every player except Scott Hurst reached safely.

Springfield 12, Tulsa 8

The Springfield Cardinals (6-9) topped the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 10-5) at Hammons Field on Monday. The Cardinals went 2-4 against the Drillers in the six-game series.

Tulsa scored twice in the first two innings against Springfield starter Garrett Williams. The left hander pitched four innings and gave up two solo home runs and walked two. He struck out four.

The Cardinals scored seven runs in innings two through four to take a commanding lead. Pedro Pages and Jonah Davis each recorded an RBI in the second. Chandler Redmond drove in Malcom Nunez and Pages hit his second homer of the season, a two-run shot. Jordan Walker singled in two more in the fourth to make it a 7-2 Springfield lead.

Edgar Escobar pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief and gave up four runs on four hits. Cory Thompson relieved him and threw 2/3 of an inning and yielded no runs on one hit and three walks. Despite his rough outing, Escobar received the win for the afternoon.

Springfield scored five more runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Pages recorded another RBI and Matt Koperniak hit an inside-the-park home run which scored Jonah Davis. Moises Gomez hit his ninth homer of the season with a two-run shot in the eighth.

Freddy Pacheco threw 1 2/3 innings and yielded two runs on one hit and two walks. Johan Quezada recorded the final out of the game with a strikeout.

Six different Springfield players recorded multiple hits. Pages and Redmond each had three. Walker extended his on-base streak to 13 games and stole two bags. Pages and Nunez each stole a base.

Peoria 4 at Cedar Rapids 6

The Peoria Chiefs (7-8) fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (MIN, 12-3) at Perfect Game Field on Sunday. The Chiefs took only one of the six-game set against the Kernels.

Peoria scored first as Masyn Winn hit his first home run of the year. Matt Chamberlain added an RBI to make it 2-0 in the first. But the lead was short-lived as the Kernels scored all six runs in the first two innings.

Chiefs starter Logan Gragg recorded his first loss of the season after going only three innings. He yielded six runs on 10 hits. Michael YaSenka pitched three scoreless innings and yielded only one hit. Leonardo Taveras and Enmanuel Solano shared the final two innings and recorded no hits.

Palm Beach 6 at Lakeland 7

The Palm Beach Cardinals (6-9) fell to the Lakeland Flying Tigers (DET, 7-8) at Publix Field on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals won just once during the six games at Lakeland.

The Beach Birds got on the board early with two runs in the first as Jeremy Rivas and Osvaldo Tovalin each recorded an RBI.

The Flying Tigers answered back with three runs against Cardinals starter Carlos Guarate. The right hander pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on five hits and three walks and took the loss. Chris Gerard threw 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on two hits and four walks.

Rivas recorded another RBI in the third with a single to tie the game, but Lakeland scored two in both the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead 7-3.

In a late comeback, the Cardinals scored three runs in the seventh. Franklin Soto crossed home on an error, Tovalin drove in his second of the game and Ryan Holgate recorded a RBI to close the deficit to 7-6.

Nelfi Contreras pitched one scoreless inning on a hit and walk. Bryan Pope threw the final two innings and yielded no runs on two hits. The right hander struck out three.

The Palm Beach offense could not get anything going after the seventh, however. Both Rivas and Holgate had three hits and Tovalin had two. The rest of the lineup only recorded two hits.

Number three hitter Rivas singled, doubled twice, plated two and scored twice. Sander Mora scored three runs after two walks and a triple. The Cardinals left eight runners on and struck out 12 times.

Soto recorded his first stolen base of the year.

Ben DeLuzio hit his second home run of 2022 and Brendan Donovan plated Evan Mendoza with a double. The Redbirds were up 4-0 at the end of the second.

After a Nolan Gorman single and a throwing error, Juan Yepez drove in Gorman to make it 6-0 in the fifth.

In the sixth, Evan Mendoza scored DeLuzio and Brendan Donovan singled to bring in Mendoza after a fielding error. At the end of the sixth, the score was 8-0.

Redbirds pitching and hitting were both remarkable on Saturday. Liberatore and Walsh let in no runs and the offense scored eight runs on 11 hits.

Donovan, Robertson, Yepez and DeLuzio each recorded two hits. Robertson drove in two and the rest drove in one each.

Springfield 8, Tulsa 15

The Springfield Cardinals (5-9) were out-slugged by the Tulsa Drillers (LAD, 10-4) on Saturday at Hammons Field. The Cardinals had no hits through the first 5 2/3 innings.

Springfield starter Domingo Robles went only 3 2/3 innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits. The left hander recorded the loss.

Grant Black relieved Robles in the fourth and yielded six runs, all unearned, on four hits and one walk in his one inning. Corner infielders Jordan Walker and Malcom Nunez committed errors to contribute to the rough frame.

Kevin Marnon threw 2 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on one hit and two walks. Michael Brettell closed out the final two innings and yielded one run on three hits. The right hander struck out three.

Springfield recorded their first hit in the fifth with Julio Rodriguez’s first home run of the season. However, by the end of the sixth, the Cardinals were trailing 15-1.

The Cardinals tried to mount a comeback in the last three innings. Malcolm Nunez hit his first homer of the year to close the deficit to 15-3.

In the eighth, Irving Lopez, Matt Koperniak and Nunez all recorded RBI singles to make it 15-7. Irving Lopez recorded his second RBI in the ninth, but it was too little, too late.

The Peoria Chiefs (7-7) fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (MIN, 11-3) on Saturday at Perfect Game Field.

Peoria starter Austin Love went 5 2/3 innings and was charged with five runs on seven hits and one walk. The right hander struck out seven and took the loss. Nathanael Heredia pitched 1 1/3 innings and yielded one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Colin Schmid threw the final inning and was charged with one run on two hits.

The Chiefs got on the board in the first after Jacob Buchberger drove in Mack Chambers. Cedar Rapids responded with a run in the home half.

Mike Antico hit his first home run of the year in the third. The Kernels responded again with a run to tie the game 2-2.

In the fourth, Francisco Hernandez scored Thomas Francisco. The Chiefs bats went quiet after the fourth inning with just two hits in the final five innings.

Buchberger was 3-for-4 and Hernandez was 2-for-4. The Chiefs scored three runs on eight hits and were 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Palm Beach 7 at Lakeland 3

The Palm Beach Cardinals (6-8) topped the Lakeland Flying Tigers (DET, 6-8) at Publix Field on Saturday.

The Flying Tigers struck early with one run in the first but Palm Beach responded with a two-run home run from Sander Mora in the third. Osvaldo Tobalin recorded a RBI single in the fifth to increase the lead to 3-1.

Right hander Zane Mills started for the Beach Birds. He threw seven innings and yielded two runs, one earned, on seven hits and one walk. The 21-year-old recorded the win.

In the eighth, Franklin Soto scored on a balk and Tyler Reichenborn plated one on a fielder’s choice. Soto scored two more in the ninth with an RBI single to make it 7-3.

Andre Granillo recorded the save for the Cardinals. He pitched the final two innings and gave up a solo home run, his only hit given up. The right hander struck out five.

Mora stole two bags and recorded two RBI. Soto also plated two. Hansel Otamendi and Tovalin each had two hits.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-2 on Easter Sunday with another walk off win by Peoria. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria starter Austin Love, fanned 10 in five scoreless innings. Chiefs second baseman Jacob Buchberger went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Memphis 3 at Charlotte 9

The Memphis Redbirds (6-6) fell to the Charlotte Knights (CWS, 6-6) for the second consecutive game at Truist Field. Via home runs, Nolan Gorman and Juan Yepez accounted for Memphis’ only scoring.

Left hander Matthew Liberatore started and gave up four runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out seven in his 5 2/3 innings. Thomas Parsons pitched one inning and James Naile tossed 1 1/3. Parsons gave up four runs, three earned, on two hits and two walks. Naile struck out two and yielded one run on one hit. Every Memphis pitcher gave up a home run.

Yepez scored Evan Mendoza on a home run in the third inning. He has five homers and 16 RBI on the season so far. Gorman hit his sixth home run in his last six games, a solo shot.

The rest of the Redbirds’ bats were quiet. Conner Capel went 1-for-4 and Evan Mendoza went 2-for-4. The team went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position, leaving seven runners on base.

The Springfield Cardinals (4-5) are off Sunday and Monday.

The red-hot Peoria Chiefs (6-3) edged the Great Lakes Loons (LAD, 2-7) with another walk-off win at Dozer Park. The Chiefs walked off the Loons all three days this weekend and have won five in a row.

Starter Austin Love went five scoreless innings on two hits and three walks. He struck out 10. Michael YaSenka pitched the sixth and seventh and was charged with two hits and no runs.

The Chiefs got on the board in the third inning as Jacob Buchberger plated Masyn Winn. Thomas Francisco drove in Buchberger in the fifth. The Chiefs held the 2-0 edge going into the eighth.

In the top of the eighth, Nick Trogrlic-Iverson gave up four runs on three hits and a walk. He could not secure an out. Ryan Loutos came in for Trogrlic-Iverson and pitched the final two innings. He gave up two runs on three hits.

With the Chiefs down 5-2 in the home eighth, the bats came alive. Masyn Winn had the first RBI, Buchberger plated his second of the game and Matt Chamberlain drove in two more to make it 6-5 Chiefs.

The Loons tied it up in the ninth with a home run off Loutos. For the third time in four games, the Chiefs walked it off in the bottom of the ninth. Mike Antico reached, advanced and scored on three throwing errors for the victory.

Greats Lakes committed six errors while Peoria had only one. Buchberger went 3-for-4 plus a walk. He recorded two RBI. Five different Chiefs had a multi-hit day. Loutos received the win.

Palm Beach 3, Daytona 4

The Palm Beach Cardinals (5-4) could not continue their walk-off streak against the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 3-6) dropping a one-run game at Roger Dean Stadium Sunday.

Zane Mills

Zane Mills delivered a quality start for the Beach Birds. He went six innings with two runs given up on six hits and four strikeouts. Mills yielded two solo home runs. Roy Garcia was charged with the final two runs on two hits including a home run. He fanned three and took the loss for the Cardinals. Gianluca Dalatri pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts. Palm Beach pitching did not issue a walk all afternoon.

With the Tortugas holding a 2-0 lead in the seventh, the Cardinals tied it with a double from Osvaldo Tovalin. He scored Elijah Cabell and Brandon Hernandez. Representing the lead run Jeremy Rivas was thrown out at home.

The Tortugas got those runs back with a two-run homer off Garcia. Palm Beach went into the bottom of the ninth looking to come back for a fifth consecutive game. Rivas brought in one to reduce the deficit to one. Tovalin looked to be the hero again but grounded into a double play to end the game.

Brandon Hernandez and Tovalin each went 2-for-4. Sander Mora was 2-for-3 including a double and a run scored. The Beach Birds collected nine hits but went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 3-1 on Saturday with wins by Springfield, Peoria and Palm Beach. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield starter Domingo Robles, took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Offensive standouts include Moisés Gómez and Hansel Otamendi.

Memphis 5 at Charlotte 12

The Memphis Redbirds (6-5) were outslugged by the Charlotte Knights (CWS, 5-6) at Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Starter T.J. Zeuch gave up eight runs on nine hits and two home runs in his 4 1/3 innings. Kyle Ryan tossed 1 2/3 giving up one run on two hits. In the eighth, Zach McAllister yielded a three-run homer. Junior Fernández threw a scoreless ninth.

All of the Redbirds’ runs came via the long ball. Nolan Gorman recorded his fifth of the year and fifth in his last five games. Evan Mendoza hit his first and Luken Baker and Conner Capel each recorded their second.

Capel went 2-for-4, the only Redbird with a multi-hit night.

Memphis led 5-1 in the fourth inning but could not respond to the Knights’ eight-run fifth.

Springfield 4 at Arkansas 0

The Springfield Cardinals (4-5) shut out the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 5-4) on one hit at Dickey-Stephens Park Saturday night.

Domingo Robles made the start for Springfield. The left-hander delievered a stellar eight-inning performance in which he did not allow the first hit until the seventh. Robles walked three and struck out three. Freddy Pacheco closed out the game with two strikeouts.

Matt Koperniak scored Moisés Gómez in the second and Malcom Nuñez plated Gómez in the fifth. Gómez added a two-run blast in the seventh to increase the lead to 4-0.

The three through six batters in the Cardinals lineup all recorded multiple hits. Gómez crossed the plate three times and Jordan Walker went 3-for-5.

Walker, Gómez and Koperniak all stole a bag. Gómez also recorded an outfield assist.

Peoria 6, Great Lakes 5 (11 innings)

 On Saturday night, the Peoria Chiefs (5-3) walked off the Great Lakes Loons (2-6) for the second time in three games at Dozer Park.

The Loons took an early 1-0 lead against Chiefs starter Dionys Rodriguez. The right-hander remained for five innings and gave up just the one run on one hit. He struck out four and walked one.

With Peoria down 1-0 in the third, Mack Chambers and Jacob Buchburger recorded RBI doubles to make it 2-1. The Loons responded in the seventh off Levi Prater. In his 2 1/3, the lefty gave up one run on one hit. He walked four and struck out four. Wilfredo Pereira worked the next 3 1/3 innings, with one hit given up and three strikeouts.

With a 2-2 tie, the game went into extra innings. There was no scoring until the 11^th when the Loons recorded three runs against Colin Schmid in his 2/3. Leonardo Taveras recorded the final out but the damage appeared to be done.

With just three outs remaining, the Chiefs were down 5-2. Matt Chamberlain was placed on second to open the home 11th. Peoria then recorded four runs on a small ball outburst consisting of three walks, an error, a hit by pitch and a sac fly by Aaron Antonini to win the game 6-5. Taveras recorded the win for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs recorded nine hits and eight walks and the team went just 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position but found a way to win. Chambers, Noah Mendlinger and Francisco Hernandez all recorded two hits on the night.

Mendlinger recorded his first stolen base of the season.

Palm Beach 3, Daytona 2 (10 innings)

Continuing an amazing stretch, for the fourth consecutive night the Palm Beach Cardinals (5-3) walked off the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 2-6) at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday. Hansel Otamendi recorded the game-ending single in the 10th.

The Cardinals took the early lead in the second scoring two runs off wild pitches as Roblin Heredia and Ryan Holgate came across the plate.

Trent Baker made the start for the Beach Birds and was strong. The 2021 draft pick yielded zero runs and three hits in his 5 2/3 innings. He struck out seven. Andrew Marrero relieved but was charged with two unearned runs on two hits. At the end of the seventh, the game was tied 2-2.

Chris Gerard and Andre Granillo each pitched two scoreless innings at the back end of the game. Gerard gave up one hit and struck out four. Granillo struck out four and gave up no hits. Each recorded one walk.

With the game still tied at the end of the ninth, the game went to extra innings. After a scoreless top of the 10^th, Jeremy Rivas was placed on second for Palm Beach. After an intentional walk to Osvaldo Tovalin, Wade Stauss dropped down a sacrifice bunt and the opposing catcher committed a throwing error to load the bases. Otamendi singled on an 0-2 pitch to score Rivas and win the game, 3-2.

Heredia and Holgate each went 2-for-4 and a run scored. Granillo recorded the win.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Thursday with wins from Peoria and Palm Beach. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is third baseman Osvaldo Tovalin, who recorded a walk-off three-run home run for Palm Beach.

Memphis 2 at Charlotte 3

The Memphis Redbirds (5-4) fell to the Charlotte Knights (CWS, 4-5) at Truist Field in Charlotte on Thursday night.

Former first round pick Zack Thompson made the start for the Redbirds. The left hander went five innings and gave up one run on two hits and six strikeouts.

Memphis got on the board in the third inning with a solo shot from Nolan Gorman, his fourth home run of the season and fourth in four games. The Knights answered back in the bottom half, after a wild pitch from Thompson.

Juan Yepez added a solo home run in the sixth for a 2-1 Memphis lead, his third homer in the last two days and fourth of 2022. Once again, the Knights answered back with one run off Angel Rondón in the bottom of the sixth. Rondón went two innings with one run, one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

Brandon Waddell gave up the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth which set the final score at 3-2. Waddell yielded one run on two hits.

Rondón took the blown save and Waddell received the loss.

After scoring 18 runs the previous night, the Redbirds were held to five hits and left six on base. Memphis struck out 15 times and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Springfield 2 at Arkansas 3

The Springfield Cardinals (3-4) fell to the Arkansas Travelers (SEA, 4-3) at Dickey-Stephens Park on Thursday.

Springfield starter Dalton Roach pitched five innings with one run given up. He yielded three hits and three walks but struck out three.

The Travelers got on the board early with one run in the second. The Cardinals put up their first run in the fifth via a solo shot from Moisés Gómez. Of five hits on the year for Gómez, four have been home runs.

Arkansas responded in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to take a 3-1 lead. The two runs were charged to left hander Tyler Pike, who allowed two hits and one walk.

The Cardinals tried to mount a comeback in the eighth with Delvin Perez plating Irving Lopez. After Matt Koperniak was thrown out at third in the ninth, the bats could not get anything else going.

A bright spot for Springfield was reliever Cory Thompson. Thompson went 2 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and two hits.

The Cardinals bats could not back the pitching as the first four hitters in the lineup went 2-for-15. Gómez went 2-for-3 and has a 1.643 OPS on the young season.

Friday’s Game: at Arkansas, RHP Kyle Leahy (0-0, 9.00) vs. RHP Stephen Kolek (0-0, 6.75) 7:05 CT

Peoria 5, Great Lakes 2

The Peoria Chiefs (2-3) defeated the Great Lakes Loons (LAD, 2-3) on Thursday night at Dozer Park.

The Loons took the early lead with one run in the second against Chiefs starter Nathanael Heredia. The lefty went two innings and gave up one run on two hits and two walks.

After a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Noah Mendlinger, the Chiefs took a 2-1 lead in the second.

In a potential tandem arrangement, Logan Gragg relieved Heredia in the third and gave up one run on three hits through four frames. He struck out six in his four innings.

With the score tied in the seventh, the Chiefs bats came alive. Masyn Winn tripled for the second time this season, scoring Mendlinger. Aaron Antonini and Tommy Jew both recorded RBI singles to make it a 5-2 lead at the end of the seventh.

Nick Trogrlic-Iverson recorded the win after 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Ryan Loutos had his first save opportunity as a professional and converted it with two strikeouts in his 1 1/3 innings.

Three different Chiefs players stole a total of four bags on the night. Mike Antico swiped his first two of the year, Winn took his third of the season and Antonini stole his first.

Every player in the Peoria lineup reached base via the team’s six hits and six walks recorded. Antonini reached base three times on a single and two walks. Winn, Antonini and Jew are all batting above .300 on the season.

Palm Beach 3, Daytona 1

The Palm Beach Cardinals (3-3) edged the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 2-4) with a walk-off home run by Osvaldo Tovalin in the bottom of the ninth at Roger Dean Stadium Thursday night.

The Tortugas pitching staff threw a combined no-hitter through eight innings at the Beach Birds.

After two hit by pitches in the bottom of the ninth, the Cardinals recorded their first and only hit of the night on a three-run blast from third baseman Tovalin. The third baseman was St. Louis’ 10^th-round draft pick in 2021 from Azusa Pacific University.

Palm Beach starting pitcher Inohan Paniagua went six strong innings with one hit and one walk given up. Only one unearned run was allowed from Paniagua. The rest of the pitching was also strong with Edgar Manzo and Gianluca Dalatri yielding one hit each through three innings.

Memphis 3, Gwinnett 6

The Memphis Redbirds (3-3) fell to the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL, 3-3) 6-3 at AutoZone Park on Sunday.

The Stripers took the early lead in the first inning with one run against starter T.J. Zeuch. Scott Hurst drove in Ali Sánchez after he doubled in the second inning to tie the score at one.

The opposition responded with a five-run third against Zeuch. He allowed four singles and a home run which made it a 6-1 Gwinnett lead. In 4 2/3 innings, Zeuch gave up seven hits, six runs, two walks and a home run, taking the loss.

Nolan Gorman hit his first two home runs of 2022, but the rest of the Redbirds offense struggled to respond to the Stripers. Gorman’s solo shots came in the third and eighth innings for his ninth career multi-homer game.

The bullpen was a strong point for the Redbirds on Sunday, as they gave up no runs over 4 1/3 innings. Angel Rondón yielded three hits and one walk but struck out five in his 2 1/3. Kyle Ryan gave up one hit and a walk in his inning before Jacob Bosiokovic collected one out and walked one. Cape Girardeau native James Naile had one strikeout in his 2/3 of an inning.

The Redbirds recorded seven hits, two coming from Gorman’s home runs, going just 5-for-28 (.179) otherwise. Memphis went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Kramer Robertson recorded his fourth stolen base of the season. Sánchez caught a runner stealing third in the seventh.

Tuesday’s Game: Memphis at Charlotte, Matthew Liberatore (0-1, 9.82) vs. TBA 5:35 CT (The Redbirds are off Monday.)

Springfield 10, NW Arkansas 5

 The Springfield Cardinals (2-1) once again outslugged the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (1-2, KC) 10-5, at Hammons Field on Sunday.

The hitting started early with a two-run blast from Jordan Walker in the first, his first at Double-A. His home run was 109 mph off the bat. Pedro Pages joined him with his first Springfield homer, as well.

The Naturals responded with a two-run home run off starter Kyle Leahy in the second.

Springfield came back with four runs in the home half of the second. The Cardinals loaded the bases and Walker drew a walk on four pitches. Chandler Redmond drove in one and after a wild pitch to score another, Pages had an RBI double. The score was 7-2 Cardinals.

Two more runs were added by the Naturals in the third after two doubles against Leahy. He gave up four runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out five in his four innings.

The Cardinals added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Moises Gomes had his first home run, Jonah Davis drove in one off a double and Chase Pinder drove in Davis. Springfield was up 10-4 at the end of the fifth.

Michael Brettell recorded the win, on one hit and one walk in two innings of work. Sean Kealy gave up one run on two walks and one hit. Cory Thompson closed out the game for the Cardinals with one hit in two innings.

The Springfield Cardinals bats stayed hot in their third game of the season. Pinder went 4-for-5 with one RBI and two runs. Our Player of the Day two days running is nine for his last eleven. Seven of nine Cardinals in the lineup have an OPS of over 1.000 in their first three games. The Cardinals also recorded zero strikeouts down the lineup.

The Peoria Chiefs (1-2) split Sunday’s doubleheader with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (2-1, MIL) at Fox Cities Stadium.

Game 1:

Starter Gordon Graceffo went five innings and gave up two hits with five strikeouts. TCN’s no. 17 prospect recorded his first win of 2022.

In the top of the fifth, Tommy Jew walked and Matt Chamberlain recorded via a base hit. After a successful double-steal, Jew was tagged out at home and Francisco Hernandez reached after a throwing error from the opposing catcher. Chamberlain scored and made it a 1-0 Chiefs lead.

John Beller recorded his first save with no hits in the final two innings.

Masyn Winn recorded two of the three Chiefs hits and Wisconsin had three errors in the game. The pitching staff recorded the shutout while limiting the Timber Rattlers to only two hits.

Chamberlain had two stolen bases and Jew recorded his first of the season.

Game 2:

The Chiefs bats got off to a slow start as they did not record their first hit until the fourth inning. Winn and Jacob Buchberger singled and Thomas Francisco grounded into a double play, scoring Winn. The score was 1-0 Chiefs.

Starter Dionys Rodriguez pitched three innings and allowed no runs with one hit but walked five and struck out four. Levi Prater pitched a 1-2-3 fourth inning. Wisconsin scored against Nick Trogrlic-Iverson in the fifth inning, tying the score at 1-1.

Peoria responded with a home run from Antonini in the seventh, his second of the season. The Chiefs were up 2-1 with three outs to go.

Wilfredo Pereira came in to close out the game in the seventh but couldn’t get the job done. He collected one out before walking two and throwing a wild pitch. The Timber Rattlers walked it off for the second time in three games, via a two RBI single. Pereira took the loss and the blown save.

Masyn Winn

Winn went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Buchburger, Antonini and Jew all went 1-for-3. The Chiefs left five runners on base.

Palm Beach 2 at Jupiter 9

The Palm Beach Cardinals (1-2) dropped the third game of the season to the Jupiter Hammerheads (2-1, MIA) 9-2 at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday.

Starter Trent Baker gave up three runs on four hits through four frames. He walked two and struck out three. One of his three runs allowed was a solo home run. Baker took the loss.

Ludwin Jimenez relieved in the fifth, yielding no runs with a walk and a strikeout. In the sixth, Alex Cornwell was charged with five runs on two walks and three singles in his 2/3 of an inning. Nelfri Contreras finished the sixth inning and allowed a single and a balk. The score was 8-0 in favor of the Hammerheads.

The Beach Birds tried to respond in the seventh with an RBI single from Franklin Soto, but two groundouts followed.

Contreras and Hayes Heinecke split the home half of the seventh after Contreras gave up a walk and had another balk. Contreras finished with one run on one hit and one walk in his 2/3 of an inning. Heinecke gave up one hit and one walk in his 2/3. The score at the end of the seventh was 9-1 Hammerheads.

Gianluca Dalatri came in for the Cardinals in the eighth and struck out two. Elijah Cabell walked with the bases loaded to add one more run to the Cardinals score in the ninth.

Osvaldo Tovalin had a 2-for-5 day and Tyler Reichenborn went 1-for-3 with two walks. The Beach Birds left 12 runners on base and went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Saturday with Memphis and Springfield taking wins. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is center fielder Chase Pinder, who went 5-for-6 with five RBI and four runs in Springfield’s slugfest win over Northwest Arkansas. Juan Yepez and Michael McGreevy were among other standouts.

Memphis 8, Gwinnett 7

The Memphis Redbirds (3-2) edged the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL, 2-3) 8-7 at AutoZone Park in game five of the season Saturday night.

Gwinnett once again got on the board early, scoring two against Memphis starter Connor Thomas. Connor allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits in only two innings. Packy Naughton came in the third inning and gave up one run on three hits including a home run in his two innings of relief.

The Redbirds responded in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run from second baseman Kramer Robertson. The Stripers answered back with one run against Zach McAllister in the fifth to increase their lead to 4-1. McAllister pitched one inning walking two with one hit.

As the Redbirds mounted a comeback, they scored seven runs in the next two innings. Juan Yepez hit a three-run home run on a 1-1 count to center field, driving in Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson.

In the seventh, Cory Spangenberg was hit by a pitch and Evan Mendoza walked. Brendan Donovan scored both on a double but was thrown out trying to advance to third. Kramer Robertson walked and stole second before Alec Burleson hit a home run to right center field. The score was 8-4 by the end of the seventh.

Blake Parker worked 1 2/3 innings recording no hits with three strikeouts. James Naile got the win for the night with one hit and one walk in his 1/3 of an inning. Junior Fernández yielded three runs on three hits in the top of the eighth, all scoring on a long ball with two out. He recorded two strikeouts in his one inning on the mound.

With a score of 8-7 Memphis in the ninth, the Redbirds held on as Jake Walsh recorded his first save with no hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Donovan and Burleson each had two hits. Burleson also walked and scored twice, as did Robertson. Yepez drove in three.

Iván Herrera recorded his first stolen base of the season, and Robertson recorded his second.

Sunday’s Game: Memphis vs. Gwinnett, T.J. Zeuch (0-0, 1.93) vs. LHP Kyle Muller (0-0, 1.93), 2:05 CT

Springfield 14, NW Arkansas 11

The Springfield Cardinals (1-1) outslugged the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (1-1, KC) at Hammons Field on Saturday night by a score of 14-11.

The story of the night was the Cardinals’ offense as they overcame their pitching yielding 11 runs for the second consecutive game. Springfield put up 10 runs in the first three innings alone. Both Malcolm Nunez and Matt Koperniak walked with the bases loaded in the first. Two more runs were scored by Chase Pinder and Jordan Walker in the second.

The third inning brought six more runs from the Cardinals. It started with two RBI by Pinder on a single. Todd Lott drove in two after Walker drew a walk with the bases loaded. Chandler Redmond added one more with a single and a fielding error by the center fielder to make it 10-0 at the end of the third.

Dalton Roach started the game and gave up four hits and one run in 3 2/3 innings of work. He also recorded five strikeouts and two walks before Tyler Pike was brought in. Tyler allowed two runs on five hits in his 2 1/3 frames.

The Cardinals got back those three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Pinder recorded another RBI on a single, scoring Koperniak. Delvin Perez reached on a throwing error, scoring Irving Lopez. Walker then scored again.

Chase Pinder hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth, bringing his RBI total on the night to five.

The back half of the bullpen struggled near the end of the game. Johan Quezada took over in the seventh, letting in five runs, one earned, on two hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings. An error and defensive indifference later, he was taken out and replaced by Kevin Marnon. The lefty went 2/3 of an inning giving up three runs on four hits and two walks. Freddy Pacheco recorded the final two outs in order for his first save of the season.

Quezada (1-0) recorded the win for the night with Pinder going 5-for-6 with five RBI and four runs. Jordan Walker was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two walks. Everyone in the lineup got on base as Springfield recorded 12 walks and 13 hits.

Peoria 6 at Wisconsin 7 (10 innings)

In their first game of the season, the Peoria Chiefs (0-1) lost in the 10th inning to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (1-0, MIL) at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin on Saturday night.

Chiefs starter and TCN prospect #8 Michael McGreevy started. McGreevy threw a no hitter through five innings before being taken out. In his High-A debut, he recorded five strikeouts and allowed one walk.

The Chiefs jumped on the board in the third inning with a single from Jacob Buchberger followed by Aaron Antonini’s first home run this season. Tommy Jew hit his first home run on the first pitch following Antonini’s shot.

Antonini added two more RBI with a single in the sixth inning, scoring Buchberger and Carlos Soto, which increased the score to 5-0.

Logan Gragg replaced McGreevy in the sixth inning and gave up an unearned run due to a fielding error by second baseman Noah Mendlinger. In the seventh inning, Nathanael Heredia came in for Gragg and allowed a sac fly in his inning of work. In the bottom of the eighth, Enmanuel Solano let in three runs on three hits and a walk. By the end of the eighth, the Timber Rattlers had tied it up 5-5.

L.J. Jones drove in Masyn Winn with an RBI double in the top of the ninth. Wisconsin quickly responded, getting an RBI single against Ryan Loutos in the bottom half, sending the game to extra innings.

As the extra inning rule is still in place, both teams started with a man on second. The Chiefs loaded the bases with two out but couldn’t score. The Timber Rattlers walked it off via an RBI single with Loutos still pitching. He took the loss and blown save.

Jew went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Antonini was 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Masyn Winn recorded his first stolen base of the season.

The Chiefs recorded nine hits but left 10 runners on base.

Palm Beach 4 at Jupiter 6

The Palm Beach Cardinals (1-1) dropped the second game of the season as the visiting team against the Jupiter Hammerheads (1-1, MIA) at Roger Dean Stadium.

Cardinals starter Gustavo J. Rodriguez was charged with three runs in three innings. He allowed four hits, three walks and struck out two. Edgar Manzo came in relief in the fourth inning and was charged with three runs on three hits and two walks. Both pitchers gave up a home run.

The Beach Birds’ bats could not get going until the seventh inning, when they scored two. Jeremy Rivas drove in Franklin Soto on a sac fly. Elijah Cabell walked with the bases loaded, scoring Adanson Cruz. Soto then singled to score Tyler Reichenborn in the eighth to cut the Hammerheads’ lead to 6-3.

Andre Granillo

The final two pitchers for the Cardinals put up zeros over the last three innings. Andre Granillo struck out four in his two innings before Andrew Marrero fanned two in his inning of work. Both pitchers had one walk.

In the ninth, Osvaldo Tovalin singled and scored after a wild pitch and a passed ball. The Cardinals could not get anything going after this though.

Rodriguez took his first loss of the season after his three innings. Franklin Soto went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
