Cardinals Minor League Notebook – June 14, 2022

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-1 on Monday with the FCL taking the win. The Cardinal Nation’s Players of the Day are FCL’s Luis Pino and Francis Reynoso. Pino had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Reynoso had three hits, one RBI and two runs scored.

FCL Cardinals 10, FCL Marlins 9

The Florida Complex League Cardinals (4-2) walked off the Marlins (2-4) after the opposition scored six runs in the ninth on Monday. Benjamin Arias tossed four innings with a run given up on two hits and two walks. The right-hander fanned two.

After the Marlins scored one in the second, the Cardinals responded with two in the home half. Luis Pino blasted a two-run shot, his first of the season. The Cardinals added four more over the fourth and fifth innings. Jose Cordoba hit a three-run home run in the fourth and Samil De La Rosa plated one in the fifth.

In relief, Americo Lugo yielded a run on a hit and three walks in 2/3 of an inning. Victor Villanueva threw a scoreless 1 1/3 innings. Ettore Guilianelli pitched one inning with a run surrendered on a hit and two walks. Yordy Richard gave up four runs in the eighth inning on four hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Enrique Saldana was charged with two runs, one earned, in the ninth and took his first win.

In the seventh, the Cardinals scored three runs to take a 9-3 lead. Francis Reynoso plated one and Pino drove in another run. De La Rosa came across on a wild pitch.

The Marlins scored six runs in the ninth to tie the game. The Cardinals walked off the game in the home half as Raul Guzman came across on a wild pitch. He was hit by a pitch and stole second before a double by Romtres Cabrera put him on third.

Francis Reynoso

Reynoso went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Pino had two hits, one walk, three RBI and two runs. The lineup went 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times.

Carlos Linarez and Guzman both stole a bag.

DSL Cardinals 0 at DSL Mariners 4

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (2-5) were shut out by the Mariners (4-2) on Monday afternoon.

Starter Darlin Saladin yielded three runs in two innings. The right-hander surrendered four hits, one walk, three strikeouts and received his second loss. Omar Yanez threw a scoreless two innings on two hits, one walk and fanned four. Oliver Lopez pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings with a hit, three walks and two strikeouts. Juan Severino tossed 1 1/3 innings with a run, a hit and five walks yielded. Junior Chirinos threw a hitless inning.

The Cardinals only recorded two hits – from Arfeni Batista and Anyelo Encarnacion. The Cards struck out 15 times and left seven runners on base.

Encarnacion stole two bases and Jonathan Mejia took one.
