In college, it really hurts recruiting if the HC doesn’t have a few years left on his contract; I don’t think it matters much if any in the pros.
At this point I’m ambivalent on Marmol as the manager; I can see plusses and minuses. Sounds like he’s going to get an extension of some kind – could be only 1 year tacked on. I guess we will see.
I don’t care if they fire him and I don’t care if they add a year to his contract. Now, my eyebrows will raise if Bloom adds 3 or 4 years to his deal.
Now the off-season can finally go full steam ahead. There are so many ways things can go with Bloom at the controls. Compared to the last two years we Cardinal fans should have a lot to talk about.
I’ve been to Montreal but not to Toronto. Vancouver is the big city on the west coast.

I think Goldschmidt falls a little short of the HoF. If he gets in it won’t be a travesty at all but, for me, nope.
We will have to see who the Cards sign out of the FA market or trade for but – barring Bloom going way off script OR about 6 of our developing players getting way better ahead of the curve I expect 78-83 wins and no playoffs BUT the big difference will be that the expectations for 2027 should be to make the playoffs.
Assuming that baseball gets played in 2027…
I’m not sure I see why so many teams are lining up to hire Pujols to manage. This isn’t college – there is very, very little recruiting and that’s limited to a few free agents.
I guess it’d be like hiring Ted Williams or Stan Musial to manage….You get a big name in the dugout – whatever that turns out to be worth.
Apparently, Schildt was not much a pleasure to work for or with. It seems Mo took a lot of unnecessary heat when he fired him for wrapping it all up in ‘philosophical differences’.
I’m convinced that we really are finally entering a soft rebuild – or did enter it in 2025.
I expect 2026 to be another .500 +/- season with more and more younger players getting shots to prove they belong at the big league level.
2027 would be THE year the team starts to rise and turn the corner from a record standpoint.
Now, based on player development, if CBA issues kill a big chunk of 2027 I think that’s an absolute disaster for StL. So, we need to hope we don’t lose a lot of that season.
IF, and I say IF, Bloom is both good and lucky then 2028 feels like the year the Cardinals are true WS contenders again.
So, as far as the manager goes – 2027 feels like the year to make a change if Bloom wants to replace Marmol and get fresh faces and voices in the dugout. If Bloom likes what he’s seeing with how the young players are being handled he might very well stick with Marmol & company.
If Bloom hits everything out of the park – minor league development, drafts, trades, the manager – all of it; the the Cards are serious contenders in three years.
If he’s hit or miss then welcome to more plus or minus .500 baseball with the occasional playoff appearance that isn’t sustainable.
If he’s a bust then we’re the Pirates or the Rockies.
As we all know Bloom may be a bust. We have all watched organizations struggle for decades and never figure it out. Draft picks dont pan out. Injuries ruin and derail careers. Bad luck or bad calls cost key games. Trades go tits up and you watch what would have been your future win for another organization

Five years from now the Cardinals could still be stuck in a rut, going nowhere, and starting over with a new gm.
Well, I’m kinda neutral on the Mariners but I can’t bring myself to wish good things upon any of the other 7 teams in the playoffs.
I may just have to skip watching this year, lol
It is likely that this winter and 2026 will give us hints and clues to the future.
Bloom could be anything from great to a disaster.
It’s clear that the plan is to rebuild the minors from the ground up to feed the major league team.
We will know if it worked in 2029-30.

Yes, there will be some sway depending on Gray & Arenado staying or leaving and if they leave how much of their salaries are the Cardinals eating.
I liked Bloom’s overall tone but as far as anything substantive to take away from the press conference I didn’t really hear any details. He kinda left the door open on everything which means he really didn’t say anything.
I am VERY interested to see what Bloom has to say and the tone with which he says it.
I hope he gives us fairly detailed information about his plan along with time frames to help set future expectations.
I’d bet he’s already way ahead of the curve with trade talks and potential FAs.

I’m talking about internal options. Yes, clearly trades and FA signings are on the table and it’s likely that even if Leahy is a starter that they still have to grab one more.
It just feels like the organization is doing everything it can to exhaust all internal options first – to save money.
It appears that Leahy will be pencilled in as a starter for 2026 because he’s about the only internal option available at the moment.
This is an organization that is bereft on talent, especially pitching at the AAA level.
I suspect that Leahy would have to really flame out in spring training to not be in the starting rotation at the beginning of next season.
I’m not sure what the backup plan would be if he stumbles. Just keep sending him out there I guess like with Mikolas and Pallante…
Nothing – and I mean nothing – should be a surprise to Bloom as he takes over. He’s been here two full seasons as the POBO in waiting.
