I like Marmol’s bullpen management here. Let Bruhil throw 2 innings while we are down. The pen is a bit short today so might as well extend a guy. We should see a Cardinals debut of one of the other guys in our pen in the 7th.
Memphis pulls out a 6-5 win as the Redbirds get a tandem start out of Mautz and Shuster and then Blewett closes it out.
What a PA by Wetherholt. I’ve been saying people will love him in STL. He is a battler who makes great decisions and takes an all fields approach which is something most here have wanted to see out of more players.
Ripping away at the first pitch with RISP is killing the Redbirds today. Herrera with a GIDP in the 5th, Gorman with a weak bouncing ball in the 6th and Winn with a harmless pop up in the 7th. I’d say you have to make a pitcher work for his money when he’s in trouble.
Not a very good read by the RF’er on that RBI single. Looked like he took a first step toward the RF foul line.
Pushard has to throw more strikes. Don’t get cute with it just throw it in there. I know his first AB he threw it right where Pages wanted and the guy got a hit and maybe he let that get to him. Just trust the catcher and throw it in the zone though
Pitching staff by and large had a rough weekend.
Tampa knocked the cover off the ball and in game 1 got about 7 cheap hits.
May had about as bad a Cardinal debut as possible.
Walker got a couple of solid hits but gave a run back in the 8th with a poor route to the ball letting it drop in front of him.
Won the series against another suspect team – we’ll see what happens next.
Really love to see Walker playing better and even more than the HR, I like that PA from Walker of taking the outside pitch and hitting a line drive to the opposite field. He isn’t up there just trying to pull everything.
Pages with the 2 run tater to give his team a chance. No matter the outcome of this game, it’s nice to see that the kids haven’t packed it in.
Wheres Pugs at? After suffering through tthe first 3 innings watching May throwing lollipops for batting practice this game has turned around somewhat. Still behind but still winable. Defense terrible in first inning and getting killed by small ball. Winn the shortstop pf our future? I hope so. need bull pen pitchers bad. Alas a new season hope it gets better. Good to see you guys on here!
The FO is enamored with Roycroft’s sinker but he just simply doesn’t get the job done. He is acceptable as an up down depth option, but he should not pitch more than 20 innings for the Cards this year.
Letting Bruhil go two innings was good, but Marmol might have cost this one by only using Soriano for 12 pitches.
A short pen and a two-run game at the time – if you have a guy that cruised through an inning then run him out there again.
I agree BikeMike. Maybe Soriano wasn’t comfortable going 2. Those are the kinds of things we never know, but that seemed like a better option than Pushard or Roycroft.
Our bullpen has been miserable thus far outside of O’Brien and today’s inning from Soriano. On the other hand, the offense has been pretty great so far outside Herrera and even he may be getting a little unlucky.

The Brewers got six (6) runs in the last of the 8th and beat the WhiteSox 9-7.Montgomery a grand slam for the ChiSox.
He grew up about 30 miles from me.
Well, he couldn’t hit 2 seasons ago, couldn’t hit last season, and couldn’t hit this Spring. Plus he never hit extraordinarily well in the Minors. But yes, in a 3 game sample, he has 5 hits now. Maybe he’s a good hitter now. But probably not. Time will tell. He worked really hard this offseason both on hitting and bunting.
Yeah, he’s not going to frighten any opposing pitchers, but the Cardinals are probably 1-2 if he doesn’t get down the sac bunt to move the two baserunners over in the 10th of yesterday’s W.
