Yes Brian – good point about being competitive. One could argue and there are those who will that the Cardinals were / are competitive for the third WC slot THIS year.
Hell, they are not mathematically eliminated from the division race yet…
September 3, 2025 at 8:02 am in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #140 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 2 vs. Athletics #291792Maybe Bloom can sign Mikolas to a 2.5M 1 year deal where he only pitches at home?
He can still travel with the team and be everybody’s big brother but just never pitch on the road…
There is a lot that plays into the W-L record for sure. Pitching / runs allowed, etc.
As far as the .300 vs .250 hitter you are correct in that we need 3-4 guys getting the 5 extra hits per hundred at bats – then it sure will add up – PLUS what about ‘productive outs’?
As in moving the runner(s) up a base or making sure you get the guy on third with less than one out across the plate for that run….
A lot of little things add up to a big thing in the w/L columns.
Pallante’s fb hits 95, 96 on the gun. His velocity is big league.
Maybe he just doesn’t consistently throw his breaking stuff for strikes?
To me, his delivery seems a little stiff and mechanical – not smooth and easy but I don’t know if that really matters as long as he’s not injuring himself.
August 31, 2025 at 8:40 am in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #138 thread – Sunday, August 31 at Cincinnati Reds #291643The Reds are fading faster than a speeding bullet… I think they are on a 5 game cooler.
Pallante has liked a bit stiff in his delivery lately. I hope he hit the club scene in Cincy last night and put some wiggle and rhythm into his wind up.
August 29, 2025 at 8:27 am in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #137 thread – Saturday, August 30 at Cincinnati Reds #291523This one might be pretty tough.
Quinn Mathews have any real chance?
I think Pallante will have to earn his spot in spring training – he’s been nothing but bad for a couple of months now.
Gray at 35M ain’t near worth that. McGreevy looks decent – not #1 or #2 decent but not too bad. Liberatore looks decent – not #1 or #2 decent but not horrible. Pallante is a huge question mark at this point. So, Bloom can dumpster dive for 1 or 2 starting pitchers and then maybe the farm spits out a serviceable starter at some point the first half of next year.
I’d bet our old pal Mikolas would come back for $5-10M and eat innings for us – that would be one of the most tone-deaf signings in Cardinal’s history but I can see them pulling a stunt like that.
August 28, 2025 at 8:07 am in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #135 thread – Thursday, August 28 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #291468Ha ha, yeah on the offense but what can you do?
As far as Mikolas goes is there absolutely not 2 starters at AAA that we could give 2-3 starts each to just to give them a peek at the majors?
Would that screw something up with the 40 man roster?
Maybe they are not ready for the bigs but then again neither is Mikolas and to me any starts he makes going forward are wasted opportunities.
August 27, 2025 at 11:46 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #135 thread – Thursday, August 28 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #291461At this point having Mikolas pitch is just trolling the fan base.
To me, it’s a fire-able offense.
August 27, 2025 at 8:19 am in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #134 thread – Wednesday, August 27 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #291410When the staff ace has a 4.33 ERA you know what kind of year you’re having…
August 26, 2025 at 12:42 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #132 thread – Monday, August 25 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #291369Agreed. The ump should get a fine and a suspension.
August 25, 2025 at 11:06 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #133 thread – Tuesday, August 26 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #291353Hey now it could always be worse.
August 25, 2025 at 8:08 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #132 thread – Monday, August 25 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #291317Winn will be very good until he’s not. I’d put money on a plus or minus 10 year career.
I don’t think his body is going to hold up beyond that.
August 25, 2025 at 7:46 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #132 thread – Monday, August 25 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #291313Is there even 10,000 in attendance tonight?
Yeah Bling you are right about the money.
Greed kills everything. When you have players making the kind of money they make it has to come from somewhere.
The TV money comes from all of us. All the costs of running advertising is simply added into the cost of the product in the shelf.
Sad and we are all guilty of participating. We are all part of the problem.
August 25, 2025 at 7:40 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #132 thread – Monday, August 25 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #291310With Winn’s back and knee issues I don’t see him having a long career unfortunately. He’s too young to have all that stuff going on already.
So – What do we think the goal will be for 2026?
Sure – you always try to win games but do we think the Cardinals will really try to make the playoffs or will it be an actual transition / rebuilding / retooling season?
August 24, 2025 at 8:40 am in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #131 thread – Sunday, August 24 at Tampa Bay Rays #291209Liberatore and McGreevy are pretty much locked into the 2026 starting rotation. Gray likely as well for $35M smacksroos.
Would love to see Liberatore finish the season on a heater.
There is a saying for wealthy children of wealthy children – the third generation.
With the third comes the turd.
I’ve found it to be true more often than not as the poor kids lead a sheltered, insulated life of luxury wherein they are never allowed to fail and never have to solve their own problems.
Winning and losing both teach equally important lessons.
I’ve decided that Mo is a condescending, arrogant, Ivy League wanna be ass.
He gets along real well with Silver Spoon Jr as they snicker and chuckle at rubes who buy tickets to Cards games as they look down their noses at the unwashed masses from the luxury suites.
- SCHILDT vs. MO
Hindsight being 20-20 we can now clearly see who’s ‘philosophy’ was the problem.
Mo is and was 100% of the problem and he has spent most of the last 8-10 years wrecking a once proud organization.
I wasn’t a big fan of Schildt when he was hired and wasn’t sad to see him go – I was fooled along with a lot of others.
When it comes to the Cardinals theses days if it weren’t for bad news there’d be no news at all.
The ML roster is a complete mess in every category. Outside of Winn no young player at this level looks ‘special’
When everyone is salivating over McGreevy it tells you the sorry state of the pitching.
The minors are mostly bereft of potential high level talent – so, the reinforcements aren’t coming.
Bloom has his hands full to try to fix this mess.
I guess rebuilding the farm system is the surest way to build a solid ML roster AND have the ammunition to trade for a couple of players you need.
Add on a couple of FA signings that meet expectations and boom – sustainable WS contender year in and year out.
The above can happen but it’ll take a few years to build and balance the organization from top to bottom – the problem with that is – the fan base is already beyond fed up and out of patience as evidenced by the declining ticket sales and attendance
Bill let this thing fester far too long and now – here we are.
August 23, 2025 at 8:58 am in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #130 thread – Friday, August 22 at Tampa Bay Rays #291168The Mikolas extension will surely go down as one of the worst in Cardinal history made exponentially worse by the fact that the team is riding it out through the very. last. start.
We desperately need an owner / ownership group that has the wherewithal and the desire to eat a bad contract here and there and go get another player.
Gomber was part of the group with Dakota Hudson & Flaherty if I recall correctly.
That bunch had so much promise…
August 22, 2025 at 8:48 am in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #130 thread – Friday, August 22 at Tampa Bay Rays #291098Why are they still running Mikolas out there at this point?
They can’t trade him, they aren’t going to re-sign him – are there literally zero guys at AAA that could share his remaining starts between them for the season just to get a look or two at a few guys?
Is it 100% tied to 40 man roster issues?
