According to two local veterinarians Whitey has less than one week to live.
I am praying hard that they are wrong.

January 20, 2026 at 8:07 pm #299576Sorry to hear rat, my lil husky is my best buddy and can’t imagine.
He’s a Cards, Niners and Illini fan and loves watching games.

Praying for your dog, Rat.January 20, 2026 at 11:17 pm #299587Sorry to hear rat- after almost a few decades (wow) checking in on this board and hearing the dog referenced/ it sounds like she had a good long life. Trust your vet – but I agree with whoever said it above, if she’s in constant pain give her some drugs a steak and let her go in peace
January 21, 2026 at 5:16 am #299589Sorry Rat. Best dog name ever. Whitey Herdog 2 ?
January 21, 2026 at 6:03 am #299592Sorry to hear that Rat. Whitey Herdog is truly a chat legend. Quite a legacy to leave behind for a dog.
January 21, 2026 at 6:47 am #299593Damn. That’s tough Rat. Hang in there…
January 21, 2026 at 7:10 am #299594Sorry to hear this Rat.
January 21, 2026 at 8:38 am #299598Hang in there Rats. We lost our pooch in 2022 – always tough. Hoping for Whitey to have another time around the sun.

January 21, 2026 at 11:29 am #299608Sorry to hear this Rat. Saying goodbye to a loyal pet is so difficult to do. I have had to do it often the last few years.
Hopefully the vets are wrong and this is just a false alarm.
January 21, 2026 at 2:10 pm #299615“That dog don’t hunt”. This old adage probably adequately describes Whitey HerDog, as I do not believe Rat has had her out spotting pheasants or whisking fallen ducks out of any ponds. But, since she’s seen literally hundreds of baseball games sitting next to Rat, she more than makes up for her lack of hunting skills with her keen knowledge of the game of baseball. I bet there’s not a German Shepherd or Rat Terrier on the planet who knows more baseball than the sweet Whitey HerDog.
Whitey HerDog is Rat’s pooch, so it seems reasonable to assume that she’s a stubborn fighter who won’t easily give up. Not to issue any false hope, but I bet there’s a fair chance she’ll far outlive those two vets’ guesstimates as to how long she’ll live.
As far as I’m concerned, there’s only one thing worse than losing a dog. And that would be losing a child. Praying for good news from Rat!
January 21, 2026 at 7:10 pm #299629I wish Whitey the best, and you too Rat.
January 26, 2026 at 10:59 pm #299872Rats, any updates on Whitey?

January 27, 2026 at 6:54 am #299876858….. Excuse me, I asked for no reason?
Whitey has been on this forum for years and hopefully comes back for three more championships like Jordan did!

stlcard25ParticipantSorry to hear about Whitey Herdog, Rats. A faithful companion she’s been, it seems!
January 27, 2026 at 10:52 am #299886I am happy to announce that Whitey HerDog is still with me!
The one week doomsday scenario that two Vets gave me has come and gone. Plus my regular Vet, who was on vacation last week, saw Whitey yesterday. He did say the blood work didn’t look good but I didn’t get the impression she wouldn’t last a week from him. He wants me to bring her back next week to run another blood test to see how it compares to the one from two weeks ago.
Stay tuned……
January 27, 2026 at 11:28 am #299887PTL! Good news Rat.
