Euro, I was thinking he’ll only pitch 6 innings or so but the way the Cy Youngs fly against the Cards on a regular basis, maybe he will throw a complete game.
Seriously though, they are due to get to a starter early. I hope that Weaver gets at least a quality start and the offense can chase Velasquez early.
I suspect that they’d drop him by the trade deadline if he hasn’t turned it around.
Gregerson still has another year on his deal and may be of use. Leone I think will be ok, he’s just been bit by the homer bug. His K and BB numbers look good. Cecil was kind of called out by Mo yesterday. That doesn’t sound good for him at all. He may be a change of scenery piece at the seasons end with the Cards eating some salary if he doesn’t turn it around.
Thanks for putting that together, Brian. Any sleepers we should pay attention to at JC besides the draft picks and ranked guys, in your opinion?
Juan Nicasio has an ERA approaching 6 as well, although that’s a bit of homeritis. Addison Reed is up near 4. Not a great year for free agent relief additions.
Bud Norris is probably the best of the entire group.
Jager, losing that way after all that fight sucked. Yeah it was exciting but it’s still a loss and that matters.

Goold’s podcast had the topic of “whose at bat is it?” last week. They were discussing when the guy gets to control his at bat and when it’s for the good of the team.
This team has so many guys who just can’t seem to get out of that selfiah mindset. You can’t hit a two run home run with no one on base.

A 30 year old coming off an 8 win 162 games, fwiw. You do realize that it’s probably an 80%+ outcome for any of those prospects to get 8 wins in their 6 years of team control, right?
I get that you’re down on Pham but it’s not like this is a slam dunk move. If you can’t pull an elite prospect, there’s no reason to go after a mid level guy or even two when you’ve got a potentially elite player already locked up pre trade. If he was a free agent this year or even next, it’s a different story then.

Before that at bat, I thought to myself that if he throws that loopy curve, Marp will take him deep. He juuust missed sending it out but ended up with the double. Men on 2nd and 3rd with the chance for Pham to tie it up.
