At least the ump was consistent on the edge on that one. It was well inside several that Velasquez has gotten called tonight.
These guys taking 3-1 fastballs with two outs…not sure about that.

Nolan Gorman just hit an opposite field homer in his second at bat to make it 3-2.
Luke had a shot to get out of the inning but lost the sub .200 hitter. The lineup turns over and Luke rolls toward 50 pitches.
Weaver had such impressive control in the minors. He has rarely showed that in the bigs. The lack of a good breaking ball really makes him have to nibble. Maybe he can pull a Wacha and develop that in the next 3-4 years.
Wong hit the ball solidly but the Phillies had him played perfectly, so it’s a whimper of an inning in the end.
The graphic they just flashed said that Velasquez has a 6.88 ERA at home this year. That’s really not good but St Louis has struggled all year with these kinda guys.
The bottom of the order just does not scare anyone right now. Good on Fowler to draw the walk I guess.
You could tell Bowman had some issues last night. He kept blowing on his fingers.
Good to at least drop one of our couple worst relievers even if we’re stuck bringing back perhaps the worst.

To bring over from another thread…Greg Garcia should get a start or two here either at SS or 2B. If it wasn’t for Carp and his inability to hit away from leadoff, I’d say he would be perfect at leadoff and move everyone down one with Pham dropping to 5th or 6th.

Carson Kelly’s AAA stats are nearly the same as last year. It sure would be nice if he could hit even 80% of that at the big league level instead of the complete crater he has done each time he’s called up. I still think he can offer something long term if he can put up even mediocre offense.

Kelly -55 (-34)So we can see who has been struggling of late. No doubt that Tommy hasn’t been as good lately but I still believe he has positive value coming. The RF spot is a black hole right now and 2B is also bad. Catcher is so much better with Yadi back. I believe Garcia needs a few more starts at SS or 2B to see if he can get the OBP of the lineup to come up a bit.
