Is Burleson evolving into a Ted Simmons-caliber LHB? I won’t be offended if anyone feels this notion is preposterous. Because I’ve been ridiculed many times before for touting Burly’s ability before it became obvious how good he can swing the bat. I’m use to it. lol
July 13, 2024 at 4:22 pm #260230Teddy batted B and threw R, so yeah Shady, I’d say it’s a bit preposterous.
July 13, 2024 at 4:23 pm #2602311td, please don’t nitpick. Obviously, you overlooked the “LHB” that I posted.
July 13, 2024 at 4:41 pm #260234Haha!…Yeah, I obviously overlooked that Shady. I was probably thinking about Burleson being converted to a LH’ed throwing C…
July 13, 2024 at 5:17 pm #260239Burly reminds me of Babe Ruth.
July 13, 2024 at 5:23 pm #260241Haha…Not quite the raw power of the Bambino, but Alec’s still young. In any case, Burleson can’t pitch…Can he?
July 13, 2024 at 5:39 pm #260245By the end of the season, it will be interesting as to who has the highest trade value. Burleson, Gorman or Walker.
July 13, 2024 at 5:42 pm #260246Burly kind of resembles a younger Hank Williams Jr. And kind of a have some fun-type character like Hank Jr.
July 13, 2024 at 5:43 pm #260247Why yes, Dom, he can. He pitched for East Carolina. But the Cardinals knew he was the next Babe Ruth and had him abandon his pitching and focus on his Ruthian persuit.
July 13, 2024 at 5:45 pm #260248Forget being a Babe Ruth. Cardinals fans are just fortunate he’s Alec Burleson, right now.
July 13, 2024 at 6:22 pm #260254I would never comp Burleson to Simmons. Even if you just think of Teddy as a lefty swinger the comp is not there for me.
Simmons crouched a little more at the plate and his build, stance and style was totally different.
Now I will say just from an offensive standpoint, Burly reminds me a bit of Larry Walker. Obviously he is not Larry Walker, and it would take a lot of years of major production to get there. But to some degree the stance and the way he hits kind of brings me to Walker. Plus he kind of looks a little like Walker did back in the day.
July 13, 2024 at 6:27 pm #260255To clarify, I’m not talking style in compararing Burly’s LHB to Simmons’s LHB. I’m talking potential, long-term production.
July 13, 2024 at 6:47 pm #260257Teddy got a pretty good head start on Burleson as Simmons was 18 years old when he first stood in a Big League batter’s box.
July 13, 2024 at 7:19 pm #260260I am just thankful for a new Burleson thread. Life is worth living again.
July 13, 2024 at 8:40 pm #260291Haha agreed Bling. We had not had one in so long I was hoping Shady was doing alright
July 14, 2024 at 11:53 am #260347blingboy, I hope you are as thrilled as I am to have Burleson hitting at an “All Star caliber” level for the Cardinals. Right now, he is hitting like a Ted Simmons in his prime. IMO Maybe loosen up just a tad.

I am just thankful for a new Burleson thread. Life is worth living again.Yep I believe this might be the 37th Burly thread. Speaking of 37 maybe he should be considered the next Keith Hernandez?
Our current number 37 is Ollie Marmol. Maybe Burly could become player/manager. Shady could be bench coach.
July 14, 2024 at 2:01 pm #260361Shady, have you noticed how many posts are are in support of your “comp”? Taking an honest self-evaluation of your thread opening criteria would be greatly appreciated. Throwing out totally random ideas without any supporting information other than your rosy opinion is what regularly puts you on an island.
I have defended you from unprofessional posters, but I cannot defend content-free threads like this one. In other words, you don’t seem to realize that you bring on some of the trouble yourself.
From the start, I chose not to comment, hoping this thread would die a quick death. That didn’t happen.
July 14, 2024 at 2:10 pm #260364Brian, so you don’t feel Burleson is currently hitting, production-wise, like Ted Simmons in his prime? If you don’t, no biggie. If need be, the thread can just fade away.
July 14, 2024 at 2:12 pm #260365You miss the point. This thread is of no value and has no basis. No one has agreed with you. Folks are using this as comic relief in the futile hope you get the clue. Please stop creating Burly worship threads. I cannot be clearer than that.
July 14, 2024 at 2:15 pm #260367Last post on this thread from me. I, respectfully, disagree that comparing what Burleson is doing to the fabulous Simmons does not have merit. But, you are “calling the shots”. And I’ll abide by your interpretation of something not worthy and acceptable here. Go Cards !
July 14, 2024 at 2:25 pm #260369Shady, I am trying to help you become more of a respected poster. You need to SUPPORT YOUR VIEWS with some data, some facts. That is mandatory when starting a new thread. Just because you have an OPINION that the two players are similar, it isn’t enough to pass the sniff test. WHY are they similar?
Most folks were trying to be nice in their replies though you gave them absolutely no reason to agree with you. Rather than expecting to be ridiculed, step back and consider why it is happening to you so often. I am being blunt in hope you can understand and do something about it.
July 14, 2024 at 4:35 pm #260388Burly has definitely impressed me over the pre-AS game portion of the season, but I’m not about to make a comp on him, but glad he has on the Cards uniform!
Depending on trades of course, I’m growing more confident about him as the main 1B in 2025 with Contreras getting a start or two a week with the other DHing when Contreras isn’t starting behind the plate.
A 1A/1B pitcher via trade or free agency will again be my hope. Walker, Scott and Saggese sure aren’t tearing the cover off the ball.
Gibson’s option picked up and Lynn’s declined? Anyone with thoughts on that?
July 14, 2024 at 5:21 pm #260391Burleson looks like Cole Messina who is in the draft as a catcher from Carolina. Cole bats from the right side but is a Doubles/HR hitter like Alec. The Cardinals could get him in the 3rd Rd.
July 14, 2024 at 8:41 pm #260444I think it is pretty much a given that Burleson will be the Redbirds 1stbaseman in 2025. Either him or Christian Walker.
