ParticipantI already explained why several times it wouldn’t be a great deal if we resign Goldy. Signing a 32 yr old to a long-term contract is not a good idea. Not a risk that in my opinion is worth taking.
NJ315
ParticipantSo you’re willing to sign him long-term betting he is Bagwell but not Adrian Gonzalez or Mo Vaughn #2 and #3 on that list.
NJ315
ParticipantIt is a great deal if they do not resign Goldy.
NJ315
ParticipantI hope they don’t resign him. My preference no long term contracts at age 32. If he has a great year he will be looking for 6 years at least and a lot of money since he already gave a huge discount to Arizona and it will be his last chance to cash in. If you think that tying a lot of money and years to a 32 yr old is a good plan we can agree to disagree. So I stand by take long term Goldy makes zero sense.
NJ315
ParticipantI am all in for any moves that make the 2019 edition a legit contender. My only issue is with the long term plan. Again that’s my take. Goldy doesn’t make any sense long term but is a tremendous addition for 2019 so keep making the moves to make 2019 a great year.

ParticipantI can only speak for myself but it is not about being “impressed” or not. It was hoping for something different. He is a great player but again just my take short of winning the WS in 2019 not sure what the long term goal was here. My hope is they won’t resign him just because the age factor.

ParticipantI thought I said he had a me first attitude. Did I miss something? I was in no way, shape, or form defending Fowler. I dislike the signing the day it happened. Only pointing out it takes two to create a conflict and they both had the type of personalities that are destined to clash. It was not all on Fowler.

ParticipantThe me first attitude and the boss’ my way or the highway philosophy are just too much to overcome. Not much room there to work things out.

ParticipantBecause they are not going to get Harper then that lefty bat is Fowler. For the people that’s most of you that do not want Harper your condescending comments are a little tiresome. The point about getting Harper is not about his personality or if he’s a generational player he isn’t. It is about taking a chance on the rare good player hitting free agency at 26. You are buying his best years and of course is a gamble but isn’t everything? The team is willing to pay a lot of money towards Goldy at age 32. I rather give it to Harper and again I am not saying Harper is as good as Goldy. But I rather buy good youth than above average decline.

ParticipantPlease no Descalso and no Jay.
NJ315
ParticipantThen I will say I have not expressed gloom and doom just disappointed they passed on Harper.
NJ315
ParticipantI fail to see the doom and gloom. I do see those of us who wanted Harper express their failure to take a chance on him as short-sighted. There is no doubt that the 2019 team is already better than the 2018 edition.
NJ315
ParticipantI am not worried at all. It is short-sighted IMO to pass up a free agent at 26. He is coming what should be his most productive years. But they picked their poison and that’s IMO a mistake. If you can spare me the Harper is not that good discussion as I said before he at his age he is worth the risk.
NJ315
Participantbccran he doesn’t have a history of injuries. You don’t like him that’s all.
NJ315
ParticipantHe played 111 in 2017.
2015 153
2016 147
2018 159NJ315
Participant“So Harper discussions are probably pretty passé”
So are comments about Matheny but you have no trouble with those. At least Harper is relevant.
NJ315
ParticipantI am not freaking out at all. I think Goldy is a terrific player. I just don’t like the trade. I think we are allowed to our opinion. I don’t worry at all I just don’t want sign Goldy an extension. If this is a one year and done I can live with the trade.

ParticipantIf you rather have Bud Norris than Bumgarner then it is a good thing you’re not a GM. Bumgarner may not be an ace but he is a lefty, he is 29 and he is only making 12M next year. I would trade for him in a second.
NJ315
ParticipantI think is a great idea. The more support the manager gets the better.
NJ315
ParticipantWhy extreme? If he leaves after 2019 you only had one of the best players in baseball for one year. He can get a 10 yr contract as an elite player. He is better than Cano and he got 10 yrs at age 32. Pujols got 10 yrs. Why not Goldy? He gave a huge discount to Arizona. I don’t think he is going to be in the mood to give another especially on his last contract.
NJ315
ParticipantExactly nobody is denying how good Goldy is. But that’s not the point. The point is they put all their eggs in the 2019 basket. It is 2019 or bust. I will rooting hard for 2019 to translate into a WS win. Short of that is a bust.
NJ315
ParticipantWe had Albert in his prime. We got Goldy after his prime years. I am not saying he is going to turn into Albert after age 31 but thinking that he not going to decline as he gets older makes no sense. I hope he has an awesome 2019 and at age 32 goes to some other team. A good 2019 will mean between 5 or 6 years at 30 per. 32 to 36 or even 37. You are allowed to think Goldy is the best player we have had since forever but you cannot question how feel about this trade. If is not about what we gave up I am really happy for Kelly he deserved better from Molina. If he is here for 1 yr and we win the WS I will be surprised but ecstatic. If we don’t I hope we don’t re-sign him. I am really getting tired of the bashing of people who do not like this trade. You do good for you. We need other things and Goldy is a start but no the one I wanted. We could use a lefty in the rotation and bonafide #1 starter. We don’t have a closer or a reliable lefty reliever. We do not have a lefty bat of the bench. I will reserve my judgement until they set the 2019 roster to judge the FO moves. But Goldy is a short term move. They did not want to put all the eggs in the Harper basket got it. But they turned around and put all their eggs in the 2019 basket. After 2019 we will see if it was a good gamble.

ParticipantAre you talking about Bumgarner, Britton, or both? Bumgarner is 29…Goldy is 31.
NJ315
ParticipantI agree Bw52. They have to be all in for 2019 for this trade to work the best. Get Bumgarner and Britton. Move CMart as closer. I am disappointed they didn’t get Harper but then make it work in 2019 since you put all you eggs in 2019’s basket.
