ParticipantI thought the signing of Leake was a head scratcher. But that was just the tip of the iceberg MO outdid himself by signing Fowler. I will never understand that contract.

ParticipantNo they won’t. They dodge a bullet with both Heyward and Price. In the case of Heyward he was never a difference maker. Machado and Harper are. I like Harper because he is a lefty hitter. But is he going to command a lot of money now way they will sign either of them. They will be outbid as usual. They may have to overpay for a free agent and they won’t. Players are not coming to St. Louis all things being equal. They want the big markets and the big marketing deals. So you have offer more in years, money, or both. They are happy to win enough to be in the hunt. You need a difference maker like Pujols with whom they were lucky enough to draft.

ParticipantI don’t think they will sign any high value free agent ever. As long as we are in the “wildcard hunt” the last week of the season that’s good enough. Putting Harper in the middle of that lineup makes everybody better but we will have to rearrange the deck chairs and hope we don’t sink out of the postseason again. I try not to be negative but Nate is winning to his side.

ParticipantWon what after Pujols?
NJ315
ParticipantHarper problem solved

ParticipantI agree. No need to resign Waino other than sentimental reasons. He hasn’t pitched well the last 4 years and was paid handsomely for it. Shaking my head.
NJ315
ParticipantThey brought back Waino and his .9 1 .2 .1 War the last four years. Why not another mediocre pitcher.
NJ315
ParticipantSame old Cardinals. I don’t even know why I expect anything different. If he is a good mentor to the young pitchers make him a coach.

ParticipantSign Harper. Fix the bullpen. Starters are not going more than 6 innings on average.
NJ315
ParticipantFreeman makes it 6-5
NJ315
ParticipantYankees 6 Red Sox 2
NJ315
ParticipantI don’t know why Mike. You put Harper in that lineup and it makes everybody better. We need what we had with Pujols. The two wins 06 and 11 don’t happen without the big feared hitter in the middle. I mention Harper because he is a lefty. Him and Ozuna would be awesome. Add Moustakas and that is potent lineup. Fix the bullpen and we are in business again. No Harper then back to 86-83-88
NJ315
ParticipantMiller = Holland No thanks
NJ315
ParticipantHarper and Moustakas will do just fine. Bye JMart, Fowler, Adams, GGarcia.
NJ315
ParticipantMaybe there are other ways. But you put Harper in that lineup everybody benefits. It won’t happen for two reasons he probably don’t want to come here unless they overpaid for him and they won’t. But until we get a big impact player expect the same results good even wild card good but not much more.
NJ315
ParticipantNo Adams please.
NJ315
ParticipantI couldn’t agree more. The Cubs lost two elimination games back to back at home. Their arrogance about winning the central foiled by two teams they and their fans probably considered inferior especially the Rockies. Sweet October baseball without them.

ParticipantTrading Carp. I agree it won’t happen. But it should. He is consistently inconsistent. Started pretty bad and ended pretty bad. His numbers were atrocious in Sep. This really hot and really cold is only going to get worse with age. His defense was not good and he got worse. He can carry a team but he is getting older and that will become less likely. I can live with Carp but only if we get a bonafide superstar hitter. I am sick and tired of the almost good enough team. Either they change their ways and go big for a huge free agent or we keep moving the chairs the same chairs around the deck expecting different results. I know I am alone on the huge start signing but haven’t had one since Pujols. Pujols made everybody on that lineup better and that’s the kind of player we need. Rant over. It won’t happen so next year will be more of the same.
NJ315
ParticipantA collection of average to above average players will give the expected results 86-83-88
NJ315
ParticipantUntil they get the big impact bat Harper preferably nothing will change. They are a good team not a very good let alone a great one. Since Albert left it has been the same just not quite good enough and the last 3 years prove they are even regressing. Counting on players to be better is all we have. If they don’t and other than Ozuna it would be an educated guess how good any of the kids are. Trade Carp, JMartinez, Gyorko. No GGarcia, or Pena, or Cecil, or Adams, or Webber, etc. Major overhaul the proof is the pudding. 86-83-88
NJ315
ParticipantI guess we will have to disagree. Carp needs to be traded and if we keep Gyorko he should not play everyday. 86-83-88 time for a major overhaul.
NJ315
ParticipantAdams cannot be with the team next year that would a horrible mistake.
NJ315
ParticipantThey won’t but if they would I rather have Harper than Machado.
