August 1, 2022 at 9:53 pm #193432Passat’s ESPN article says Cardinals May receive another player from the Pirates in the deal….if I read it right
August 1, 2022 at 9:58 pm #193435Chris stratton
August 1, 2022 at 10:08 pm #193438Odorizzi to the braves
August 1, 2022 at 10:14 pm #193439Odorizzi for Will Smith. If they wanted a washed up LHP they could have had McFarland.
August 1, 2022 at 10:51 pm #193443Not sure what to make of Stratton…he was good the last 2 years 2020 and 2021….he gave up 5 runs in 1 outing in June of 2022, has 2 saves and 8 holds w/ 5 blown saves. Maybe he was their closer before Bednar and couldn’t handle that role.
Can’t be any worse than VerHagen who I don’t think knows how to pitch at the Major league level
(guy should be throwing his slider 95% of the time)August 2, 2022 at 9:32 am #193497I think we should acquire one more rental starter and call it a day. Rodon would be my top choice. Even as a rental his price would be somewhat high but we wouldn’t have to gut the entire system like we would with Soto.
August 2, 2022 at 9:36 am #193500If we get Rodon we will be heading in the right direction.

stlcard25ParticipantThis is not deadline related but one guy I wish were on the market that I’d give up prospects for is Aaron Nola. He just looks like a Cardinals pitcher. I’d be calling the Phillies to see what it would take in the off-season. The rotation would certainly look better with an established front of rotation guy in there.
Edman, Graceffo and Paniagua for Nola, and try to entice him with the Goldy special? I’d be in.
August 2, 2022 at 10:33 am #193526Since this is an “Ideas thread” what about Moises Gomez for Matt Moore?
August 2, 2022 at 11:09 am #193559LHRP isn’t really a necessity right now. Cabrera, Thompson, Naughton have been fine. I think another RHRP is needed. Someone to help Gio and Helsley. I’m still saying Bass would be smart.

stlcard25ParticipantI’m firmly in the “no more trades” camp at this time. At best the Cards are the fourth best team in the NL and I don’t see any way they beat two of the top 4 back to back to make it to the Series. So, I say bite the bullet and eat Goldy and Arenado’s career year and hope for some magic in 2023. Don’t mortgage the future one bit to add to a team that isn’t going anywhere.
The one exception I’d make would be to trade Edman. He’s not really needed on this team and his value may never be higher. Much like Gallegos last year, the Cards could max out their return and get a prospect or two in return. Or perhaps he could go in a Lopez trade, although I’d be iffy with going after a guy in the Hendricks mold, as Lopez is.
August 2, 2022 at 11:16 am #193562I would still be interested in Rodon depending on the asking price. There is also the chance the Cardinals could convince him to not opt out for 2023.
August 2, 2022 at 11:22 am #193566With Juan Soto off the block, hearing the Cardinals are still looking to add a bat and/or pursue catching depth. Can’t rule out additional pitching either. #STLCards

August 2, 2022 at 11:23 am #193567Braves were the 5th best NL team last year. Nationals were 3rd and took a crazy hot steak to get that good, in 2019. Make the small moves to beat out Philly, maybe catch MIL, get in and you’ve got a chance. Cardinals have the weakest schedule remaining. It’s on them to win games and get in and see what happens.

stlcard25ParticipantWhat sort of bat would even be helpful at this point? The guy I’d like isn’t a trade candidate at all…Michael Conforto. He’s allegedly on track to return this year and if we could ink him into next year too, it would allow us to use the OF depth to bolster the rotation.
August 2, 2022 at 11:38 am #193574Murphy or contreras was who i was hoping for moreso than soto. I dont know but im ready to see what Burleson can do. Either trade him or bring him up.
August 2, 2022 at 11:48 am #193577Murphy and Blackburn help the team now and next year +
not flashy, but might help
I’d still try to find OF help too though…maybe sneak Laureano into the deal? amazing defender, and a little pop
August 2, 2022 at 12:39 pm #193588Question: Does the #Padres bold move to acquire Juan Soto push the underperforming SF Giants (51-52) toward being sellers? If so, the #STLCards could be in on a deal to get Carlos Rodon (9-6) & Joc Pederson (17 HRs & 43 RBI). Rodon would be a solid No. 3 starter in a PO series.

stlcard25ParticipantPlease, no. The time to acquire those two was in December or whenever they signed deals with San Fran. I’m tired of sending prospects to get guys we could have bought just a few months before.
August 2, 2022 at 12:58 pm #193596Rondon and Pederson would be good additions. Do it.
August 2, 2022 at 2:18 pm #193619It sounds as if the Phillies have interest in Rodón. And yes, the Giants are pursing them in the wild-card race. Also the Twins, Cardinals showing interest still.

August 2, 2022 at 2:59 pm #193634Mahle to the Twins.
August 2, 2022 at 3:01 pm #193636Cubs trade Robertson to the Phillies.
August 2, 2022 at 3:03 pm #193637Really surprised NYY didn’t get Robertson back. But they did add Trivino and Effross. Cardinals could have really used Robertson or Bass. And then they option out Fernandez to keep McFarland.
