Montas went for quanity not quality…..think his trade value was lower b/c of the injury.

Also I wonder if Cardinals Front Office is not using The supposed interest in Soto as a diversion for not doing anything or paying anymore $

man…i can’t believe Cardinals couldn’t best that offer to Oakland… i mean they also got Trevino…who, while not being as dominant as once before is plenty valuable for a pen

    -Get Soto
-go back to Oakland for Blackburn and Murphy
    -get Rich Hill

-if the right deal is there for Fulmer or Jiminez from Detroit…do it

That might just be enough to win a championship if we can field

    Carlson
    Goldy
    Soto
    Arenado
    ONeill
    Murphy/Yadi
    DeJong
    Murphy/Donovan/Pujols
    Edman

    Nootbaar, Dickerson, Donovan, Pujols

    Waino, Mikolas, Blackburn, Hill, Hudson/Pallante
Helsley, Geo, Genesis, Fulmer/Jiminez, TJ, Junior, Packy, Ovi/ZThomp

There are several quality pitching rentals still available:

    Rodon
    Syndergaard
    Eovaldi
    Odorizzi
    Greinke

    Pitchers with years of control:

    Bumgarner
    Mahle
    Lopez
    Skubal
    Keller

Thejager, im guessing st louis wasnt really all that interested in montas. We are familiar with pitchers and sore shoulders.

I’m thankful we didn’t get Montas. Even if the return wasn’t super high, his injury history is a bit scary.

Yep, kind of a RH version of Matz except with better stuff.

The more interesting thing on Montas was the lack of quality prospects given up, especially after what Castillo went for. He is like a solid #3 starter to me if healthy, but the cardinals could use any starter right now

    Montas and Trevino bring back a 55, 50, 40 and 40.

I still prefer getting Clevinger or Snell. And a reliever or 2. Syndagaard would be nice too, with not much needed to
    Trade for him.

Seattle may have overpaid for Castillo since they are so desperate to break their 21 year playoff drought.

ATL signs Austin Riley to a 10/212mil deal. As a super2 this season, his new contract buys out his remaining 3 arb salaries for 15mil, 21mil and 22mil. Then 7 more seasons at 22mil per, which would have been his FA seasons.

Now I realize Soto has the longer, better career stats, but how much did Soto turn down? It was just under 30mil AAV wasn’t it?

With that offer, WSH would have been buying out his last 2 arb seasons in 23′ & 24′, (w/a 17.1mil arb1 this season behind him) and Soto wants to avg more than 30mil going forward?

These market setting contracts can blow up easily. Look at Trout since he signed. How bad is that back?

    Buyer beware.

I wonder if Mo could swap Dickerson for Snell? They could use some outfield help and Dickerson is off the books after this season. Might help them with some of their luxury tax concerns, assuming the Cardinals take on Snell’s full contract for next season.

Austin Riley and Nolan Gorman have a pretty similar pedigree, actually. It’s a good reminder not to get too down if Nolan struggles a bit this year or next, cause talent sometimes just wins out.

Riley’s first 500 PA’s were a struggle but then broke out w/a 6.1war season. Should match that again this season.

Reported trade of Oviedo and Nunez for Quintana.

I figured Nunez had to go. He made more sense to trade than anyone given that he had value and was completely blocked. Oviedo is probably the overpay portion for a deadline deal. But not a bad deal. Quintana has been good this year and Oviedo is replaceable.

That’s a good deal, but they will still need more pitching help

Luke Weaver has been traded to Kansas City.
