Dom was eirily close on the Musial best season …not Gehringer, GHERIG is the man. I have to admit his ’34 season was awsome. Stan had more dbls a tripls, but Lou had some gawdy power numbers and a 30 pt. edge in Batting average
Strange that in his best year the Tigers beat them damn Yamkees to the pennant, wasting Lou’s Triple Crown
The Cardinals did a little better that year (smile)

April 15, 2025 at 8:06 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #17 thread – Tuesday, April 15 vs. Houston Astros #279567Dom, not the forgotten ol’ Charlie. I don’t know much about him myself, but I know he had some good seasons and maybe had a batting champ year
April 15, 2025 at 7:26 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #17 thread – Tuesday, April 15 vs. Houston Astros #279559Try this one boys: We know about Stan’s 1954 season when he dominated the league in all catagories except HR’s due to a rainout that erased his 40th
Most hits. dbls, triples RBI, runs scord and he was also the batting champ.
To give you an idea of how great he was, in Mays’ best season he won in only TWO catagories, not even close. When you think about Aaron, Frank Robinson and Clemente too…none were close. BUT there was one guy in the A.L. that fans of his team insist was on a par with Stan’s
Who was that man?
Think only of live ball sluggers, and a little hint: get Ted Williams out of your thinking as nobody that is pitched around and flat out walked 140 times a year can get enough AB’s do what Musial did
April 14, 2025 at 6:49 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #16 thread – Monday. April 14 vs. Houston Astros #279421Come on now Pugs…the most memorable and hardest hitting, four eyed, chain smoking on the dugout steps Richie was ALLEN…Who was briefly a Cardinal
April 14, 2025 at 6:26 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #16 thread – Monday. April 14 vs. Houston Astros #279412Another hint; He later on turned out to be one of my all time favorite Redbirds)
OMG a Cardinal! Seems too soon in Yadi’s Career and Ludwick wasn’t on the team yet. I’m stumped!
BTW your take on the K question hit the nail on the head…one little hint – like Groat, Tito Francona and Bob Skinner, this guy was a refugee of a WS champ team
April 14, 2025 at 6:02 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #16 thread – Monday. April 14 vs. Houston Astros #279401Dom I gotta have some time to think about this 3rd place
question. A wild guess would be steroid Barry (‘tho that hard hitting catcher for the Giants…took me about 5 minutes to remember his name…Buster Posey?April 14, 2025 at 5:52 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #16 thread – Monday. April 14 vs. Houston Astros #279398Pug: Beltran had to have been in the mix. I’ll say him
Watcha’ say, Puggy Mc Pugsington? Long time no type…Carlos might very well qualify Like many of today’s sluggers with an eye…if he had played 40 years ago before PEDs
April 14, 2025 at 5:44 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #16 thread – Monday. April 14 vs. Houston Astros #279397Musial is of course right for HR’s, and Enos is a DAMN good guess for K’s
Stan, DiMag and and Ted (as far as I know) are the only elite hitters in history (.325 with Power) that K’d as few times as they did, so that pretty much shows how good they realy were
This Cardinal was real good hitter too and could drive balls to the wall with the best of ’em…just not Over them
April 14, 2025 at 4:46 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #16 thread – Monday. April 14 vs. Houston Astros #279388Give these two a go forum: 1) What player had the most Career HRs in a Cardinal uniform and a little harder 2) what Cardinal had the lowest strikeout rate in a single season (in the modern era)
Hint…they were not the same man
April 8, 2025 at 6:48 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #11 thread – Tuesday, April 8 at Pittsburgh Pirates #279027A relief not to have to sweat the game from the jump. Come on Sonny, keep ’em close to a needed win
April 7, 2025 at 7:22 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278951Need a hint Dom…good record or bad record for Carl?
April 7, 2025 at 6:54 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278941Carl Warwick gone…have not heard his name spoken for decades

April 7, 2025 at 4:17 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278925Oh I see…John was the most RECENT Card to do it. I have no memory of that as he must have done it in my drunken period
April 7, 2025 at 3:55 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278922I should have mentioned Ruth along with Mantle Mays and the Rajah as he stole more bases than 2 of them…he had around 120 or so and actually stole home 10 times!
Kinda explains why he gifted the Cards a WS win trying to steal 2nd after he got too heavy after he became a rich glutten
In his prime that man was the greatest baseball player EVER, Otani? Not even close as a hitter or pitcher.
April 7, 2025 at 3:31 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278920While on the subject; I would have bet my house that Grudzelanic hit for a natural cycle, but google says it was Mabry! WTF am I thinking? Am I getting senile???
April 7, 2025 at 3:25 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278919Not Red, but a teammate of his for a few years
April 7, 2025 at 3:22 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278917When you think of speed and power Mays Mantle and Hornsby come to mind…none did it! (Rogers did not come to my mind or I would have guess him.
I forget what Cub player said this, but after he retired he ran a 60 yard dash with the team and WON…I forget the reason given why he did not steal bases when he played.
April 7, 2025 at 3:12 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278913Your thinking of my thinking was right on, Dom,but it wasn’t Frankie. FYI the list of HEAVY hitters that never even hit 1 is surprizing to say the least!
April 7, 2025 at 2:50 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #10 thread – Monday, April 7 at Pittsburgh Pirates #278908I’ve got a good one for you Dom, ZTR, et al…what Cardinal great in the live ball era hit for the most career cycles? I didn’t know the answer before I looked it up but my wild guess was (amazingly) correct “😮”
April 6, 2025 at 6:51 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #9 thread – Sunday, April 6 at Red Sox (Game 2) #278844Rat, gotta blame the strategy fail on the manager. Most players don’t bunt well and don’t wanna do it. Afraid to look bad I guess.
Maxville…I knew him. He was a regular at the joint I worked at. He struck me as a real jerk. Quite brusk with us working stiffs.
April 3, 2025 at 6:44 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2025 Game #7 thread – Friday, April 4 at Boston Red Sox #278659For some reason the site will not let me start a new topic. So I will post my link here
I would have thought that the answer would be that 60s Pirates team that beat the Yanks despite being outscored by a ton, but…
