The Cubs lost to the Padres last night in San Diego. 10-4 was your happy final. It was a 3-1 Cubs lead in the 6th but then the wheels fell off. Including a botched pop fly behind 3rdbase that neither the 3rdbaseman, shortstop, or LF took charge on. Then a line drive right over the pitchers head and then a swinging bunt. Then Tatis took over. It was a joy to watch..:)
And Skubal and the Tigers pounded Milwaukee last night at Miller Park. 9-1 was your happy final. Front Row Amy was in attendance in this one. That was a joy to watch too..:)

With a W they can surface above .500, but an L submerges them back down to underwater status. The entire season may well hang in the balance of the outcome of tonight’s game…
Happy Birthday to Ted Sizemore who enters the octogenarian club today. He reminds me of the stark contrast in the way lineups are constructed in today’s game as opposed to when I was still cutting my teeth as a baseball fan. Many probably recall the ’74 season in which Sizemore seemed to be tailor made for the 2 slot behind the great Lou Brock at lead-off who burgled 118 SB’s that season a crossed HP 105 times. That ’74 Cardinal team finished up a scant 1.5 off the pace behind the Pirates in the old NLE after being victimized by the Steve Swischer debacle on the last day of the regular season. That ’74 Redbird roster was a good one that contained 5 HOF’ers named Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Ted Simmons, Joe Torre and manager Red Schoendienst. Those five names were augmented by players named Reggie Smith, Keith Hernandez, Bob Forsch, Al Hrabosky and Bake McBride who was awarded the ’74 NL ROY that season. That’s a lot of first rate talent and they should have won the division that year. I’ll always maintain that Cub’s catcher Swischer dropped that 3rd strike for the PB and then tossed the lousy baseball into RF for the E-1 on purpose…Haha!

Gibson gave up a homerun in the last of the 8th with two outs to Mike Jorgensen that costs the Cardinals the win. I think it was a 3-2 Montreal final.
Then the Cubs had the Pirates beat until Steve Swisher really screwed up.
Yeah they lost their last game of the season to the Expos at Jarry Park which was game #161. There was no need to play #162. You reminded me that Jorgenson was also a culprit in that sad ending. Oh well, wait’ll next year…
Jorgensen eventually ended up playing for the Cardinals and working as the farm director and later in the front office. He even was interim-manager for part of 1995. He was between Torre and LaRussa.
Yeah, he sure was. He also collected 5 PA’s as a Cardinal in the ’85 postseason. He went 0-2 in the NLCS and 0-3 in the WS.
I’m a little nervous with Fedde taking a turn in such a crucial game. The Cardinals desperately need a W to climb above .500 and demonstrate that they’re a team that has a chance to compete. A loss tonight could spell the end of the ’25 campaign…Where’s Manny when you really need him?
The skies look clear in both the St. Louis and Cincinnati area for their respective games tonight. Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the first few innings of the Mariners and Reds from Crosley Field. Then we will switch over to catch the Astros and Cardinals from Sportsmans Park. Then later tonight it will be a combination of the Cubs and Padres from Jack Murphy Stadium or the Rockies and Doyers from Doyer Stadium.
My late din-din tonight might very well be a pancake and a chocolate shake. Along with a few cigars tonight.

My guess to the trivia was just a wild guess, but it made me think of another Detroit Tiger named Gehringer. Charlie Gehringer didn’t hit enough HR’s to be the correct answer to the trivia, but he could flat out hit. If you’ve never done so, you should check out his career numbers. He was also said to be a quiet and unassuming sort of guy. Player-manager Mickey Cochrane said, “Charlie says ‘hello’ on opening day, ‘goodbye’ on closing day, and in between hits .350″…Haha!
Lucky to get out of that. Fedde has really been struggling with his command the last 2 games despite not giving up any runs in 10 IP
