Have a feeling Saggese is going to shine in this one. Let’s call it 6-3 Birds shall we? And what’s for din-din one may ask? It’s a trip over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse where I think I just may opt for some sort of seafood entre late this afternoon. Din-din for me these days commences around 4:30pm, where it used to be 6:30pm a couple decades ago. Boy at this pace in about 20 years, I’ll probably be having din-din around 2:30p.
The Doppler Radar doesn’t show any green stuff in the St. Louis area. This one should be played.
Then later tonight it’s either the Rockies at the Doyers or the Cubs at San Diego. I have a feeling the Rockies are going to bear the brunt of the Dodger offense breaking out of its mini slump.
As far as tonight’s game at Sportsmans Park. I am going to call this one 6-3 Redbirds with Burleson getting off the schneid by jacking a long dong to RF.
And din-din today is a Hungry Mans Turkey dinner, a couple ears of corn, a piece of strawberry pie from the Amish restaurant, and a chocolate shake.

The Astros in town for 3 games has me wishing our old friend Dusty was still managing that team. I happen to like old Dusty. I liked him as a player and I liked him as a manager. Old Dusty will most probably be inducted into the HOF one of these days and I’m smitten with a bit of wisful nostalgia whenever I think back to the wonderful days of all those intense battles fought between Dusty and my favorite Cardinal manager TLR when Dusty was on the top step for the Giants, Cubs and Reds. You could always tell that those two absolutely adored one another…And they were both always incredibly fun to watch as they faced off in countless classical NL matchups. One of the most endearing baseball images that I’ve ever laid eyes on was a cartoon caricature of a miniature little Dusty sitting upon TLR’s lap. The image showed the former Cardinal manager with a big smile on his face as he playfully bounced the cute little Dusty up and down on his knee…Dusty, who was appropriately dressed in a Cubbies uniform, is obviously having a wonderful time as he too has a magnificient smile upon his face that says, “This is SO much fun, Uncle Tony!”…At any rate, Dusty will always be one of my favorite baseball people and, in my view, the game needs more players and managers like old Dusty…
Edit; I’ve also been led to believe that our good friend Rats was fond of old Dusty…Haha!
I’m not sure what I’ll have for supper, but I had a late lunch which consisted of pimento cheese on the sort of white bread that they call ‘Soft Twist Bunny Bread’ along with a sliced store bought tomato that tasted almost as good as the homegrown variety, and a Claussen brand pickle spear. I washed all that down the hatch with an ice cold glass of good old fashioned vitamin D whole milk…You know, the kind that’ll land you in the cardiopulmonary ward…You only live once. Go for the gusto…Haha!
Haha!…A baseball gypsy told me a final of 16-3, Cardinals, with a good chance of Pages manning up at SS and ripping 3 taters…How’s about that?
Give these two a go forum: 1) What player had the most Career HRs in a Cardinal uniform and a little harder 2) what Cardinal had the lowest strikeout rate in a single season (in the modern era)

I happen to know the answer to the first part of the trivia is Stan Musial, who is a little ahead of Albert in the tater category. I have to take a guess to the answer to the second part of the trivia and if you wouldn’t have provided a hint, I’d have guessed it was Musial, but since the hint says he isn’t, my best guess would be Enos Slaughter?
Monday night’s din-din chez CiF was mussels and French fries with a green salad, followed by a dish of Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream decorated with strawberry jam.
Yesterday’s shutout picked up my spirits and left me with a hopeful feeling for tonight but I daren’t hazard a score prediction.
Rah Cardinals!Since we’re playing the Astros, here’s a little trivia that applies to the former NL team that was also once an intense Cardinal NLC rival…
I will always feel that the best season Albert Pujols had as a Cardinal was in 2006. During that season the great Pujols placed .331/49/137 up on the board and also led the NL in SLG, OPS, OBP and TB’s. Pujols was a genuine monster in ’06. He absolutely carried that entire Cardinal team on his back during that WS Championship season and was the very personification of what my perception of an MVP is. I always thought it was an extreme injustice that he placed second behind Ryan Howard for that season’s MVP award. The question to the trivia is as follows…
Who came in third in the vote for the 2006 NL MVP award?
Hint…I thought this player also should have placed ahead of Howard in the voting for ’06 NL MVP.

No, but good guess, Pugs. Who could ever forget the clash of titans known as Pujols/Beltran in that 2004 NLCS? Those two put on a hitting show that was not at all unlike a massive and unrelenting artillery barrage during that 7 game playoff series.
Musial is of course right for HR’s, and Enos is a DAMN good guess for K’s
Stan, DiMag and and Ted (as far as I know) are the only elite hitters in history (.325 with Power) that K’d as few times as they did, so that pretty much shows how good they realy were
This Cardinal was real good hitter too and could drive balls to the wall with the best of ’em…just not Over them

During the 7 games of the ’04 NLCS Pujols/Beltran combined for 8 HR’s, 22 R’s, 15 RBI’s and 20 H’s. Beltran hit .417 with a .958 SLG and Albert hit .500 with a .1000 SLG…Haha! It’s my guess that sort of exchange between two superpowers was such as that there still remains enough radioactive fallout that could possibly pose a hazard to living organisms…

I guessed Slaughter only because back then hardly any of the good hitters ever K’d. I think it may have been a point of pride not to be victimized by the K so they made certain to make some sort of contact. Those guys back then just seemed to have rather given up their left you know what than to have an enemy pitcher set them down with the dreaded K.
I looked up the second part of Carter’s trivia question and, along with Red and Slaughter, was one of the first names that came to mind. After looking up the answer, it’s pretty obvious that this guy should have been the first player to enter my mind. He was pretty doggone good.
I haven’t a clue about the low strikeout guy. So, I’ll start the process of elimination by saying it probably wasn’t Dick Allen.
