If Campos was in another system he would rank higher because of the position he plays along with his improved bat this year. It will be interesting to see what happens going forward with the catching position in our minors. It seems that Rodriguez is our number 1 prospect, with Bernal being the next catcher up after Crooks. Although I believe Bernal is better than Crooks. But next year it could be Rodriguez and Bernal at Memphis, with Campos repeating AA. That is, of course if no trade is made. I am not advocating a trade as roster moves usual decide themselves.
Another prospect who has had a great year is Jalen Flores. I believe he was expected to be drafted higher. If you look at his stats this year he is 3rd in our system with 80 rbis. It seems reasonable he will do well next year at Springfield. Perhaps like Jesus Baez, it is unsure what position he will play. And this not a reflection of either Baez or Flores having an iron glove. Baez as of now, could be ticketed for third base because of need while Flores may continues to play several positions.
I think this farm system is the best i can remember in my time watching our minor leagues. Now, that doesn’t mean we won’t have some players not live up to expectations. I expect us to contend by 2028. And with the minor leagues playing next year no matter what, that might be an advantage for the Cards, as we nay have a lot of near ready players at Memphis.
If there is a Rule 5 draft I would think Cho and Jesus Baez might be protected. Lin might have a chance, but continues to be inconsistent. Henderson would have been in the conversation, but his injury makes his future murky. Gastelum, Jordan, and Mathews have been added. Free agents Stanek and Urias are likely are free agents we will likely let go.
Looking at Gormans numbers seem to indicate a home run or bust strategy. While has 13 homers, yet only 2 doubles. He has 70 strikeouts in 150 at bats, with 33 walks. What is his future? It seems like he he might need a fresh start with another team.
It was good to see Rojas promoted stateside. We’ll have to see if he continues hitting the ball well. I was unfamiliar with Pérez, who also got promoted, but his numbers were strong in the DSL.
Good to see former top 30 prospect Franco have a good outing. And Franco is very young.
Rodriguez just keeps improving. Fajardo had a very good start. This is the deepest I can remember our farm system being in 20+ years. Maybe the best in my lifetime. I just don’t remember this many teenagers and low 20 something’s in our top 30.
I was very happy with the deadline deals. We got 2 high end outfield prospects in Ragsdale and Frias, while getting a potential innings eater in Eagan, and a much needed lefty reliever in Santana. Frias might be the best of them all, but he is the furthest away. The other 3 could be knocking on the door next year. Memphis should be a fun team to watch. And very young.
If there is a 2027 season it will be interesting to see what the FO does with the current rotation members along with those vying for a starting job. Leahy and Pallante have been very good for the most part, but Leahy is 29 and you may fetch a decent return for him. With Fitts, Mathews, and the return of Roby might make the Cards think about upgrading. And if we flash forward to mid 2027, Franklin, Cijntje, Doyle, and Molina could be ready. Liberatores rotation spot is very much in question going forward.
Also if there is a work stoppage at the MLB level that would thin the Memphis ranks of Roby, Fitts, and Mathews. Possibly Henderson if the there is a Rule 5 draft. It is interesting to ponder about the AAA rotation of Molina, Doyle, Cinjtje, Davis, etc.
It seems Alan Reyes should be promoted to Peoria. He has a career 2.14 era. We need all the good relievers we can get.
Indeed Luna is back. I kind of wonder where he’ll start next year? I assume he’d be playing stateside at FCL.
Brian, it’s just speculation on my part. Watching Cijntje limp off the field, it appeared to be a leg injury. The Cards don’t divulge much injury info. I hope he is okay, as that was the best and most dominant start.
Graham pitched yesterday. I also wonder if Cijntje is out for any period of time that Doyle may get a up of coffee at Memphis.
Of all of their starters, Liberatore and Pallante could be upgraded. Pallante and Leahy have been way better than I expected. In fact, Pallante could be dealt in the off-season. Bernal is someone I’d like to see this year. Does Crooks handle the pitching staff that well? His bat has some pop, but he strikes out too much, which Bernal does not.
Nice way to kick some Cubs butt. The Cubs have the 3rd oldest lineup. The Cards have the 3rd youngest.
Another pitcher to watch is one I’ve followed for a while. Davila was stalled for a while, but has a live arm. He’s at Springfield now. It looks like he added a splitter. And we could All the minor league relievers we can get.
