Did the Cardinals receive what was once termed as either, “an undisclosed amount of cash” or “cash considerations” during today’s flurry of activity? I mean, let’s face facts…Cash is king and is always the primary consideration simply because you can buy all kinds of stuff with it.
Well, they did save more than $7 million in 2026 payroll obligations, and another $7 million projected for next year, with Noot’s salary now off the books.
They could add a poverty abatement surcharge on the dogs a drinks. The fans would understand.
Yes, they will probably increase season ticket prices another 5-13% this year, as what the DeWitt’s are discovering is that the key to profit maximization for billionaires is not “fans in the stands”, but rather how much welfare you can receive from your fellow owners and the tax-paying minions.
I think they saved $5 million LA with the loss of Noot and addition of Ferguson being essentially a wash for the remainder of this season. Really $4 million after they add a player at the minimum to the roster. But I get your point. However, I don’t believe that these transactions to save $4 million had anything to do with money. Or at least not hardly anything to do with saving $4 million today.
I was very happy with the deadline deals. We got 2 high end outfield prospects in Ragsdale and Frias, while getting a potential innings eater in Eagan, and a much needed lefty reliever in Santana. Frias might be the best of them all, but he is the furthest away. The other 3 could be knocking on the door next year. Memphis should be a fun team to watch. And very young.

Bling, there is a chance the PTBNL is a 2026 draftee and the teams can’t officially name them until the off-season when this year’s draftees are allowed to be traded.

Hope Curley is better than the 6.41 ERA and 1.7 WHIP he put up with Amarillo in his 46+ innings this year.
Curley was the D-backs 20th ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline, and they wrote this about him prior to the draft:
Curley not only deals at 94-97 mph and reaches 100 with his fastball, but he also produces high spin rates and difficult carry, and has maintained his velocity through longer outings. He also has shown the ability to miss bats with three different breaking balls, the best of which is a mid-80s slider with impressive depth.
Wasn’t Curley the guy who shut down Springfield in the Texas League championship?

It was his first year of pro ball. They promoted him from high A. They can’t all be Liam Doyle.
