July 18, 2026 at 11:12 pm #313476The Redbirds are still sitting at 5 games above sea level, but just can’t seem to gain any sort of steady traction. Hopefully they can take this series with a W in Sunday’s game before heading to So. Cal to face a last place Angel’s team.
I’d have to guess that it’s mass hysteria at Fenway as the Red Sox are now at 12 consecutive W’s and have a chance to place a 4 game series broom job on the ALE leading Rays. Another little league tidbit is that both the Pirates and Senators have now scored more runs than the Dodgers. I didn’t see any of that coming, but that’s baseball.
July 19, 2026 at 7:17 am #313482The Cardinals are presently tied for the third Wild Card slot. I accept the need to rebuild, but the idea of throwing in the towel in the next couple weeks seems pusillanimous and un-American. The players are fighting for it, but we will have to see how their resolve holds up if the suits knock the wind out of their sails selling at the deadline.

“pusillanimous”
That one got past our filter! 😉

July 19, 2026 at 9:18 am #313498Yeah, I had no idea what that meant and had to look it up. I am reading this big 700+ page biography on Alexander Hamilton, and the author has quite a vocabulary. About every other page there is a word or two I have to look up.
“Senators”? There hasn’t been a Senators team since 1971. I miss those guys though, because my first team in Little League was the Senators. 😁
A guy I work with at the Rockies is at today’s game in Phoenix. Like me he is a Cardinal fan, and has a Pallante jersey he is wearing to the game today. Meanwhile I will be scoreboard watching as I am working the local nine’s game versus the Redlegs.
July 19, 2026 at 9:23 am #313499I was afraid to look it up.
Edit…I was going to call them the Expos, but didn’t want to create any confusion.

July 19, 2026 at 10:00 am #313501Yeah, sorry, I didn’t think about it being an unfamiliar word. My preferred definition of it is ‘contemptibly timid’. But anyway, as I mentioned, the players will be playing to win. Many of them will be playing for jobs. I do hope we see some more new guys, pitchers and position players. It will also be a test for Marmol trying to keep it together. And you never know.
July 19, 2026 at 10:34 am #313502I believe technically the Washington team’s official nickname was “Nationals”. The original team that is, the club that moved to Minneapolis-St Paul starting in 1961. But they also went by “Senators” and eventually were known as the Senators even though “Nationals” was their official name.
Then the expansion team was “Senators” from the get-go, as Mike Shannon would say.

July 19, 2026 at 12:46 pm #313507We have been on the periphery of a wild card spot the last few years and I always wanted us to go for it but was repeatedly told that selling out the farm in order to just get squashed by the big boys was why we were in the situation we were in in the first place.
I heard that so many times that I now believe it. I think we should sell. The only way around it is if Bloom could somehow buy and sell at the same time. That is a tough needle to thread though.

July 19, 2026 at 12:54 pm #313509Now on to the important stuff.
Hot and dry weather conditions will prevail in Phoenix. The game will be played without a glitch.
And din-din today will be a ribeye steak on my little grill. Along with some mashed potatoes, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and some Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream.
Will start out watching the Reds and Rockies from Coors Field in Colorado Springs then tune over to the BOB for the Cards/DBacks affair.

Iván Herrera (R) C
Jordan Walker (R) DH
Nelson Velázquez (R) LF
Alec Burleson (L) 1B
Masyn Winn (R) SS
José Fermín (R) CF
Lars Nootbaar (L) RF
Blaze Jordan (R) 3BJuly 19, 2026 at 1:42 pm #313511Oil writing in the worst OF arrangement he could have. If they are going to play Fermin and Velazquez in the OF, make sure it isn’t the same game.
July 19, 2026 at 1:54 pm #313512The lefty righty matchup algo can’t be trifled with ATM.
July 19, 2026 at 1:59 pm #313514I’m unsure why they are having Walker DH instead of Velazquez. That would be a big improvement just swapping them with Noot in LF instead

Ivan-C
J Walk-DH
Nelson
Burly
Winn
Fermin-CF
Noot
BlazeA little better ops vs. Lefties. This will be a tough match up. From a pitching standpoint this guy is having a career year even though his K’s are down.
July 19, 2026 at 2:12 pm #313516Idk maybe they want to give Walker a day off in thr field. He has been more active than some this past week.
July 19, 2026 at 2:24 pm #313517Indeed Booyah, this one will be a toughie to score more runs than the opposition. Jimmy Lee Crooks seems to be finding his swing with the big club, so hopefully we’ll see him getting an at bat or two. Fermin has been a pleasant surprise to me and if anyone has a decent shot of success vs “Rodreego” (Eduardo Rodriguez) today, it’s “The Ferminator”.
And I think I speak for many around here with this burning question for Rat…..hey Rat, you often make reference to you enjoying a heaping bowl of Turkey Hill vanilla bean ice cream. Do you add anything to it? I love adding a big gob of Jiff peanut butter to my vanilla bean ice cream. And if I’m really feeling frisky, I go all out and also add mass quantities of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, fresh banana chunks and Planters cocktail peanuts.
July 19, 2026 at 2:55 pm #313518No Pugs, I typically do not add anything to the ice cream. I prefer the good old fashioned taste of the Homemade Vanilla and the Vanilla Bean. Sometimes plain chocolate is just as good.
And as far as BikeMike working out there at Coors Field in Colorado today……he may as well focus on the job at hand as the Reds are smoking the Rockies 8-1 in the 2nd.
And the Cubs are pounding the Twins 10-0 at Wrigley.
And the Doyers also pounded the Yankers in Game One today at Yanker Stadium. 8-2 was your final. And something to note was the Doyers did not yank a dong today in game one at Yanker Stadium.
July 19, 2026 at 3:34 pm #313519The Red Sox completed a 4 game series sweep over the 1st place Rays today with a 6-1 W at Fenway. It was their 13th consecutive W and they’ve now won 18 of their last 20 games. Sonny Gray was the winning pitcher of decision as he lifts his W/L record to a pretty nice looking 12-1 on the season. Boston was 14 games under .500 in late June and are now not only in the thick of the ALWC race, but also just 6 game off the pace in the ALW. It just shows to go ya’ that good things can happen if you don’t pack it in and just keep playing baseball.
July 19, 2026 at 3:44 pm #313520A Blaze Jordan ringing triple plates Noot with the game’s maiden tally.
July 19, 2026 at 3:48 pm #313521Now JJ continues the 3rd inning with an rbi base hit to left. 2-0 Birds and looking to add more now that we have “Rodreego” on the ropes……gotta pound him while we can.
July 19, 2026 at 3:51 pm #313522The kids are piecing together a real nice inning here in the 3rd as they take a 3-0 lead with baserunners at 2B and 3B and still 0 outs.

July 19, 2026 at 3:53 pm #313524Herrera just swung at ball 4 on a full count……and it works to our benefit as on the next pitch Ivan lines a single to right with JJ scooting around to 3rd……now Walker ramrods a long one to left and that baby is……off the top of the wall and bouncing back into play…..in trots JJ with Herrera applying the brakes at 3rd and just like that the Cardinals have plated 3 and definitely looking to enhance that total this inning.
July 19, 2026 at 3:55 pm #313526And Burleson with the 2 RBI base hit to stretch it to 5-0.
July 19, 2026 at 3:55 pm #313527Burly blisters a liner into center that’s going to mushroom the St. Louis advantage to 5-0…..still just 1 out.
