I wonder why there’s only one game scheduled for Thurs. If two teams are scheduled to play, why not have a full slate of baseball or simply give every team in the league four days off? It seems silly to me, but I suppose I have to keep in mind that the commissioner of baseball is a lawyer who once attended Harvard. If I keep that simple fact at the forefront of my mind, every foolish decision makes perfect sense…

At least this game is not the stupid AppleTV game and we will be able to watch it.

I’ll start with the Reds around 8:40 here in SW Indiana and then switch over to the Cards and DBacks.

In case you are wondering early about the meteorological conditions for this one.

It will be sunny and warm down in the Phoenix area. Highs around 101. No chance for rain.

And speaking of rain. Today (Thursday) about 1:00 as me and Whitey walked out onto the porch just before I was about to commence mowing the rains came. They didn’t last too long but fairly heavy. We had about .6 in about a half hour. That wiped out mowing but I was able to go ahead and mow during the evening.

And din-din for this fine Friday will be the CCFF. Cardinals Catfish Fiddlers Friday. Out at the Amish restaurant north of town on the lake.

Why are we TBD? I know we’ve had some days off but the rotation should be the same through unless they are worried about being at Bank One Ballpark and the match ups.

Maybe the rotation will be reordered to put May in the spot they want his deadline replacement to be in.

I will be scoreboard watching this one as I work the Reds-Rox tonight. Will be interesting to see how we do over the next couple of weeks, and what the roster looks like in August.

As long as they are getting rid of daylight savings time they should get rid of Mountain and Pacific time too.

I have little chance of staying awake for more than a couple innings of these late starting games.

I think it’s Standard time that is being considered not using, and going to full time Daylight time.

Doesn’t matter to me which way it happens, but if I had to choose I prefer Daylight time.

I always have said though that the change, if we use two time frames, should be on April 1 and October 1 every year, no matter what day of the week that falls on. Then we always know and are consistent with a 6 month on, 6 month off set of rules.

I used to work part time overnights at a radio station. If you worked the fall back time change the bookkeeper would only pay you for 8 hours instead of the 9 that you actually worked. She told me it would even out when the clock moved ahead an hour. Since I was a part timer who filled in when someone took a day off, in the 4 years I worked there the other overnight guys NEVER took off on the nights they’d only have to work 7 hours. 🙂

I’d prefer they just settle on one time year round, whichever they choose, and stop confusing those poor cows about milking time.

Why is Romero now on the IL?

Not probable, but if the Cards win 8 out if their next 10, Bloom is going to be in an unexpected predicament. Doing your best to succeed and never waving the white flag of surrender when there’s still hope are obviously preached by all professional teams. If the Cardinals are playing winning baseball and in serious contention for a playoff slot as the trading deadline draws near, how could the organization throw in the towel and send players packing. If Bloom had made one less off season trade and Sonny was still with us, I think we would quite possibly be looking to add another couple of ML ready pitchers instead of subtracting them.

Rats, Romero is on the IL for appendicitis. I assume he will miss the minimum.

Nice to get the 2 out 2 RBI base hit from Winn to jump out to an early lead. Those 2 out RBI’s are a thing of beauty.

And now McGreevy does just what he’s supposed to do as he sets down the side in order.

Looking up at the board, the Red Sox placed the broom on the Rays today as they swept a doubleheader at Fenway for their 11th consecutive W. They’re now 17-3 in their last 20 games. Gray and Contreras are the pitching and hitting MVP’s on that Red Sox team who are now legitimate postseason contenders over in the AL.

Spectacular play from Winn with both the mitt and arm to save a run.

Reading back 1TD, I know the play you are referring to. That was a heck of a play by Winn earlier to even get to the ball let alone make the throw over

Gassy looks gassed. Not to worry, as I think we’ll all learn to love what Gassy brings to the table once he gets settled in. Tie ballgame……we’ll get these guys tonight.

Almost looked like Seward wanted no part of Jimmy Lee Crooks in that at bat. Cardinals perched at 1st and 2nd with no outs here in the top of the 9th in an even-steven 4-4 ballgame.
