Thanks for clarifying that Marilyn. I am glad they switched back. I must have not even watched the game last year.
Surprised Herrera is an All Star as he has not exactly been a force. I think he will have better seasons ahead – maybe even finish strong this year. But he has not been a difference maker, which is what you think of when looking at an All-Star.
Haven’t watched the home run derby in years as it was always on ESPN, which I have not had since 2017. But this year it’s on Netflix and we have a sub to it, so will check it out some and see if our own Junior Walker can be the best of the All Stars.
This year’s NL team is truly Junior Walker and the All Stars.
…for you younger fans, Junior Walker and the All Stars was a music group. They had a couple of big hits in the ‘60s, “Shotgun” and “What Does It Take (to win your love for me)”
Based on team results the NL should be quite a bit better than the Junior Circuit.
So I am going to say that is too obvious and the AL wins tonight 6-3.
I agree with your take on Herrera, Bikemike. In my estimation, he’s been somewhat of a disappointment this season in the sense that his bat hasn’t generated near the sort of production that I was hoping for. And when he’s situated behind HP, the catcher’s position becomes a defensive weakness. I’d have to say that there are at least one or two Redbirds who were more deserving of AS consideration.
I had no idea that Walker raked in a million hot dollars for winning the HR derby. And, although I didn’t watch it, I’m going to have to try to pull up a replay. In any event, not a bad little bonus stack of nice looking green paper for the young man. Good for him.
3-0 AL after one. Didn’t realize the game started so late. One inning in the books and it’s almost 9pm EDT.
1TD – if you have mlb.tv they have a nice 15 minute recap of the derby. I would think Netflix has the entire show if you have it. We have it because the Lovely Lady Bike likes some shows on Netflix, so I lucked out with the derby on it this year. But I will say, Netflix has some great documentaries and I watch one of those now and then.
Back in the day as I recall the All Star starting pitcher usually went three innings. These days it’s one and done. Not that I long for the old days in that regard or that it was better – just a difference in how the game was played.
A long challenge on that close call, but it looks pretty clear cut that he was out. However they rule him safe. Sheesh again – that one looked pretty easy – his foot was above the bag when the ball arrived.
Just took my first look at it in a replay and that was a genuine first rate power surge performance from the young Jordan Walker in last night’s HR derby. And it couldn’t hardly get any sweeter than to totally outclass the home crowd favorite Schwarber in front of the Philly fans that were booing the young man in a manner not at all unlike I once heard them boo a young Mike Schmidt many years ago…In any case, to set sail as the underdog and overcome adversity to beat the odds is what the St. Louis, Cardinals have always done ever since I’ve been a baseball fan.
Yeah 1TD -we will see how the season plays out over these last 67 games, but it might be that the Jordan Walker show on July 13th is our season highlight.

In days of yore, I can recall being really disappointed if the NL lost the AS game. And that was many years prior to the game having anything to do with HFA. Right now I’m experiencing deja vu all over again…It’s a serious matter of pride.
Former Cardinal Michael Wacha on for the AL. K’s his first two opponents.
Isn’t it crazy that after all the twists and turns, Wacha turned out to have the best career of all that pitching we had in the pipeline circa 2013? It sure seemed like he wasn’t going to be able to keep off the injured list and be effective enough to be more than a back end starter while he was with us. Now he’s a two time All Star who’s had a pretty nice career as pretty much what we hoped when we drafted him…a mid rotation #2-3 sort of starter. Admittedly, we all got a little carried away after he dominated that first postseason, but he’s been very good.
Wacha has been a good, reliable starter for awhile now. Kind of what we hoped Mikolas would be when we extended his contract.
The game was dominated by pitching, especially from the AL side. Still I enjoyed it.
Walker was pretty much dominated in his at bat. He had a 2-1 pitch that was up and away that looked like he might have been able to take the other way and do something with, but he swung through it and it appeared to me like he tried to pull the ball.
Herrera hit one down the line but the third baseman was able to make a play in it.
So our guys did not do much.
