We swept the Reds in St. Louis a few weeks ago. They will be looking for revenge. And since we are playing like sh~t now I’d say we will lose two of these three.
Din-din today is a CCFF. Cardinals Catfish Fiddlers Friday. Out at the Amish restaurant north of town on the lake. Catfish Fiddlers, mashed potatoes/gravy, noodles, dressing, sweet iced tea, a piece of pie and some vanilla soft serve ice cream afterwards. Then after all that a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar out on the patio.

C Jimmy Crooks LYes aberosa, it is indeed a rainy day around the St. Louis area today. But the good news is that the Doppler Radar shows it has all but moved out of the downtown metro St. Louis area. There appears to be some small cells a little north and a little west of the city but nothing major.
Chances are this one gets in. And if we are delayed I don’t anticipate a lengthy one.

We dug into the freezer and got out leftover roast beef we had cooked up in the crockpot months ago. It’s the classic roast beef with potatoes, carrots and peas in brown gravy – kind of an all in one din-din.
I grabbed some Tillamook “Malted Moo Shake” ice cream on sale for dessert. If you like malts, this stuff is “to die for” as the Lovely Lady Bike might say. Rich creamy vanilla malted ice cream with chunks of chocolate.
I have always favored malts over regular shakes, so this really hits the spot.
Oh yeah, there is a game tonight. These might be the number 4 & 5 teams in the NLC by seasons end. The Reds were out here last week and I chatted with quite few fans. Nice folk. I asked them “Pete Rose – in or out?” Pretty much everyone said “in”. They say forgive and let him in. I have heard some comments that the Hall should put Pete in, but note on his plaque his entry was delayed due to violating the rule of betting on his own team. Personally I am still sort of hard core abs say no go.
I agree BikeMike. Rose is a no go on the HOF.
And that little cell just NW of downtown St. Louis looks like it might be headed towards the metro St. Louis area in the next hour or two.

I once had the same view, Bikemike, but since the entire sport and it’s owners are now involved in the organized gambling racket, in my estimation it’s nothing other than genuine hypocrisy to delay Pete’s entry into Cooperstown. And, regardless of whether or not he gets in, as a baseball fan I’m grateful that I was able to see the all time hit king play baseball when he was playing during the prime of his epic career. No one played the game of baseball with more intense drive than did the great Pete Rose. Whenever he situated himself onto a baseball field, Pete entered into a trance that was entirely focused on nothing other than winning the baseball game.
What Rose did was expressly against MLB rules, which are clear about the punishment, a permanent ban. IMO, it was worse given his role as the manager.
However, I want to point out that as bad as MLB’s gambling “partnerships” are, it is just as much against the rules today as it was 50 years ago to bet on games. And I imagine the penalty would be the same.
If his name was Pete Jones, no one would care. That he was an exceptional player doesn’t change what he did.
No, you’re right, BW, no one can change what they do and I’m reasonably certain that everyone has one or two things they wish they could do over again. And I agree that gambling has to be placed into the category as the games’ mortal sin. For a long time I was of the opinion that Rose should be denied entry, but I always guessed he’d eventually gain entry posthumously. I’m okay with whatever the big bosses decide to do but, in my view, Pete Rose extended far and away beyond an exceptional player. I’d have to describe anyone who averages 200 hits for 20 Big League seasons as a freak of nature…Haha!
You are right, everyone makes mistakes. However, Rose was not apologetic, and instead was indignant about it. He made his situation worse and got what he deserved, IMO.
Halfway through the game, the Cards are down 1-0 and still looking for their first hit.
The in-game interviews so far have been a real A-list of celebrities. Anthony Reyes, the team’s community relations director and the bullpen catcher (and BP pitcher for Walker). Can’t wait to see who is next!
Rose did deserve to be banned at the time. But baseball has went against its own rules by bedding itself with the evils of gambling for its own greed.i dont see any difference. Sure rose betting on his own team called into question how he managed unless he always bet they win. But same applies. We dont really know if the games are on the up n up based on their partnership.
Yeah, BW, I entirely agree with the indignant and unapologetic temperament only adding to the negative perception of Rose. He never came close to being what could be termed an affable guy. I always thought a more accurate term for Pete’s character would be a jerk…But, as a baseball player, he was most definitely an all time great. In any case, I’m okay with whatever posterity has in store for him.

Do you really think that because FanDuel has a partnership with MLB that they can affect Marmol’s decisions or how May pitches and the same with 29 other teams? That seems almost impossible to me.
The Cards’ have one hit, a two-run double from Blaze Jordan. May stranded the bases loaded in the top of the sixth.
I like the sign posted on the masonry behind HP that reads, “Bet 365, Winning is Everything”…It doesn’t mention anything about winning fair and square…Haha!
Brian, i dont know a lot of things. Do they secretly have conversations with umpires. Do they manipulate the screens that show the balls n strikes. Do i think there is shenanigans going on,no i dont. But regardless bedding themselves with the devil doesnt help their cause in this case. Rose def had his faults i agree and those didnt help his cause. I just know that rose was the ultimate competitor. You never saw him in any way play to lose so i dont think he did that as a manager. Far as a ball player goes, every player should play like rose. I remember when he got hot at garber when garber got him out in his last at bat when his 43 game hit streak ended,saying he was pitching like it was the final out of the world series. Kind of rich coming from rose and he looked like an idiot saying it but thats how he was. He prob regretted saying that later but it was amusing then.
Well, the fade will make the upcoming trades easier to take.
They need to trade May, Stanek, Romero, and maybe even Nootbar and if they were solidly in the playoffs then it would be much more painful when it happens.
As it is – these guys are out of gas so they can get a look at some more young players and improve their draft position for next year.
