The team is really flat right now. Maybe they are on edge with the deadline and not knowing how the roster will be shaken up.
It’s almost as if they were instructed to take a collective dive in order to avoid taking on any criticism for a sell off while still being competitive.
The Redbirds take a sound 10-2 beating as the Cubbies plunge them below sea level for the first time since 9-28-25. I could clearly hear the death knell during this one.
The Cardinal manager is now 1 game under .500 for the season and 1 game over .500 for his managerial career.
Well if a sell off was inevitable (it always was), might as well justify it.
I hope the players are not taking that attitude, but for my part, I am not surprised. The team was punching above it’s weight for a long time.
Not much to add that has not been said. Usually in a 162 game season the breaks will even out, and that seems to be happening. Our record more accurately reflects our talent, whereas during the first half we were somewhat charmed.

I don’t think the players are tanking, I do think Marmol has been making more questionable lineup and bullpen decisions than usual.

Hopefully that is an exaggeration. At Coors Field you can get a kids dog, which is really just the traditional sized hot dog for a little less than $4. Cokes are around $6.
And you can get $3 beers up until first pitch at a place in the stadium. When working the games I get asked a lot, “Where are the $3 beers?” 😄
Marmol doesn’t know what he will have after Monday. So, for instance, he could be thinking about what a lineup without Herrera to fill the two hole would look like. What does his outfield alignment look like without Noot. That sort of thing.
Blaming this on Marmol is laughable.
What is amazing is how this roster made it four months above .500.
