Gorgeous day out here in the Rockies so I was on the bike and dialed up the KMOX broadcast for the first inning. Looks like a long day for the road club.
I do like that Mikolas went back to the ‘stash and a bit longer hair look. The clean cut Mikolas of the second half of last year just didn’t look right. But unfortunately it hasn’t helped his pitching, at least not in that opening frame.
Didn’t realize Jason Heyward was still playing. We dodged a bad contract when he went to the Chicago National league club back in their memorable 2016 campaign.
At least Goldy got a hit his first time up. Maybe he can last in the lineup a few more days before the natives want him traded or released.
These two clubs have had their eras combining to dominate the NL. In the ‘40s they won 7 of the 10 pennants. In the ‘60s they combined to win six straight. And in the ‘80s they won five of the ten.
Betts is off to a monster start! Made it look easy on that jack. Whoa, looked like that was a strike to Ohtani on “ball four”.
Maybe Mikolas should have worried more about how to get the Dodgers out instead of mouthing off about their checkbook. I figured those words would come back to bite.
We’ll see right here what we’re made of, as we need to come right back and hit them for at least 2 runs here in the 4th.
Goldy 2 for 2 with a homer! Maybe his monthly slump was in ST this year.
Then Gorman hits it on the nose but Heyward can still play defense.
Goldschmidt had quite a few solo taters last season and still collected 80 RBI’s. He would have pushed close to 100 across HP if he’d have been hitting out of the 3 slot. The Cardinal manager’s not smart enough to figure that out.
Mikolas’s last winning season was 6 years ago, so yah, its not his fault he’s our second best starter.
And Burly with a hard-hit out. We picked up something there. Will see if Mikolas can put some zeros up against these ‘27 Yankees.
Very encouraging sign seeing Contreras hustling down to 2nd base on that ground ball. Hope our young players took note.
Heyward was pretty good last year – looking at the batting line he had an .813 OPS. That with his defense is certainly acceptable.
Nice turn on the DP. I saw some notes about Gorman’s improved defense this Spring. Looked good on the pick-up and throw, and of course Winn had a cannon at short.
