    Top of 2.

Carlson – Walks on 4 straight unstraight pitches.

Herrera – Blisters a base hit to right on the first pitch he sees….Carlson stopping at 2nd.

Walker – Sends a routine fly ball Bellinger’s way out in center field and there will be no advancements on the base paths.

Winn – Drills a base hit to left and Carlson will score the tying run with Herrera stopping at 2nd. Very encouraging swing of the bat by Mr. Winn.

Donovan- Flies out to Suzuki in right field.

Goldy – Flies out to Suzuki in right about a cat’s whisker shy of the track to retire the side.

Dylan Carlson exits the action in the bottom of the 2nd as he and Walker collide on a fly ball to right-center. He walks off with no assistance……he should be turning somersaults by daybreak is my guess.

Looks like the Redbird manager plans on Gorman getting the majority of his PA’s from the 3 slot.

    Top of 3.

Gorman – On 3-2 Nolan flies out to straight away left field.

Arenado- Sends a fly ball out into short center field where Bellinger races in…..and gloves it for the second out here in the top of the 3rd inning.

    Contreras- Strikes out.

There’s not a “Dr.” preceeding “Pugs”, Scotty, but I really do not believe Carlson’s injury to be a serious one…..let’s hope I’m right.

Attrition may intercede to the degree that Burleson get some innings in CF.

I wouldn’t have thought a ST crowd would be loud enough to impede communication.

Carlson looked fine. But we all know he is fragile.

In the old days, the way that works is the corner outfielders goes hard for the ball unless and until called off by the center fielder. Don’t know how the kids now days play it,

Top of 4. Wicks still toeing the cubbie rubber.

Siani – Pokes a roller towards 3rd base where Morel backhands it and fires it over to 1st to just barely nip the speedy Siani.

    Herrera – Strikes out swinging.

Walker – Grounds out to Morel at 3rd base to put the finishing touches on the second consecutive quiet Redbird offensive inning.

Top of 5. Drew Smyle now pitching for Chicago.

Winn – Sends a fly ball sailing out to deep center field…..Bellinger back towards the wall and has just enough real estate to haul it in. An extremely encouraging two at bats from Masyn so far here this afternoon.

Donovan – Grounds it neatly out to Hoerner at 2nd where he’ll gobble it up and fling it on over to Busch at 1st base for the out.

Goldy – Taps a little nubber out in front of home plate where Gomes pounces on it and easily gets his man at 1st base to retire the side and that’s now 3 straight frames where the Cards have failed to get a batter safely on board the base paths.

Suzuki his second homer on the game here in the bottom of th 5th….both of the solo variety…..3-1 Chicago.

Pitching change: Ryan Fernandez the new Cardinal hurler and he quickly ends the cub threat by inducing your basic garden variety 6-4-3 twin killing.

Top of 6. Jose Cuas now plying his trade on the mound for Chicago.

    Gorman – Strikes out looking.

Arenado – Smashes a liner past the 3rd baseman Morel and out into left field for a leadoff single. And Arenado will exit this ballgame.

Contreras – Ramrods a long one to right center field!……and that bomb is going to make one heck of a nice souvenir for one fortunate fan…..tie ballgame.

Siani – Cannot check his swing and he’ll go down on strikes.

Carpenter – Grounds out to Michael Busch at 1st to retire the side.

Brian has me on a strict 6 inning PBP count here this afternoon, so I’ll follow Carlson, Arenado and Matz into the St. Louis showers……no I won’t……that will put an abrupt end to PBP today….but you can rest assure that I’ll be ready and raring to go on opening day.

Winn and Pages doubles produce 2 Redbird tallies in the 7th…..5-3 Good Guys and they’re looking for more. And how about this Winn kid! I’m thinking between .270-.280 with 14 dingers this year for the kid.

Yeager base hit plates another….6-3 Birds.

3rd DH today behind Herrera and Carp. Oli not believing in Burleson’s hitting ability vs. LHP.

While I’m not one to put a lot into spring training stats b/c of small sample size and just getting ready/conditioning, I would say starting pitching might be a bit concerning

    Lynn……7.90 ERA
    Matz……….8.16 ERA
    Gibson….10.80 ERA
    Gray…injured list

At least Thompson(2.81 ERA) and Mikolas (2.14 ERA) have looked pretty solid

Hope Carlson answers the bell on Thursday. Thinking we should have kept Palacios, but of course hindsight is always easy.

After today’s game Pedro Pages’ slash line this spring is .367/.440/.807. In somewhat of an offensive breakout, Pages slashed .362/.443//806 with 16 HR at Springfield in 2023. Considering his above average defense, if he can continue that kind of offensive production, he’s a major league player…..somewhere.

Nice job today, Pugs. Thank you. Love that positive thinking on Carlson.

Struck out in his only at bat.
To be fair, he still had a better day than Goldy.

I just now got a look at the Carlson/Walker OF collision and it looked to be a bit more than a minor fender bender. The replay showed Carlson taking most of Walker’s body weight to the area below his right knee. Hope he’s okay.

Perused the box and saw Goldy’s anemic .109 Spring mark. Man, that is certainly a concern. You hope it is not an indicator of a major decline, however you cannot help but wonder.

Still don’t like him in the 2 spot – but if this carries over to the regular season he will be lucky to be in the lineup at all.

Yeah, Goldschmidt’s .109 couldn’t buy a free bowl of soup. He’d better start hitting before June.
