Toscar Hernandez hit both HR on balls up in the left hand corner of the zone. The first HR was on a 90 MPH two seamer, the second HR was on a hanging 73 MPR curveball.

    This team is already unwatchable.

The pitch to Betts in the 1st and to Hernandez in the 4th have convinced me that under no circumstances should Thompson ever again offer up a curveball to a RH’ed hitter…Zsa Zsa Gabor could have tatered up on those two hangers.

Yes they are unwatchable. These hitters we have take pitch after pitch and make me want to hurl. Awful looking ball club. Good job Mo.

I liked how ZT competed. Results not so much.

Why was the set-up man working in the 6th inning of a game in which his team trailed by 5 runs?

Sounds like something the Cardinal manager would say.

    They simply
    need more veteran leadership.

That’s the ballgame. Matt Carpenter pinch-hits for Winn and lines out to end it.

And that sucks. I had a coke bet with my buddy that he would strike out in his first at bat this year. I just lost $3.

I’ve noticed that Katie has regurgitated the FO’s and Marmol’s talking points a lot in the offseason.

Welp, I think we all knew how that was gonna turn out. 160 more games to go.

The Cardinals went 63-90 in 1912. That .412 win percentage equates to 67 wins in today’s game and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where this team finishes. The starting pitching is tire fire.

“Why was the set-up man working in the 6th inning of a game in which his team trailed by 5 runs?”

I didn’t bother me, Marmol bringing Gallegos into the game. Chance to shake off the rust, get a game under his belt.

But the key of course — the only key, since the game was a blowout at the time — was to not throw so many pitches that Gio’s availability would be in any way compromised for Saturday.

So what did the manager do? He left Gallegos in for two innings and 20 pointless pitches. It’s taken two games and Marmol has already displayed his incompetence.

Not that Marmol has any idea what role Gallegos occupies within his bullpen anyway. Recall that last August, in a space of five appearances, Gallegos was used as closer, as Jake Woodford Mopup Eunuch, as seventh inning guy, and as the setup man. One of Ollie’s innumerable managerial weaknesses is that he does not understand (having never played above A-ball) that the vast, vast majority of major leaguers hit and pitch and field their best when they have defined roles.

It’d be pretty silly to draw any conclusions based on a couple of games against the Dodger juggernaut — their incredible winning percentage over the past five years is MLB’s best half-decade since the Billy Southworth Redbirds. But one thing we do know. The StL manager is still terrible.

That is an intangible Bob. Intangibles are things that cannot be objectively measured and therefore constitute dirty input, which is caustic to the system. The best way to handle a factor that cannot be reliably quantified is to pretend it does not exist. If you can redefine reality so that success conforms to the limitations of your system, your output will be amazing. This is how wonks think, Bob, and they are running the asylum now.

The Dodgers have started off their season with two quality starts.

Raise your hand if you were dumb enough to believe the over the hill three were gonna change anything. Oh yeah they haven’t pitched a game yet, but this team is every bit as bad as last year’s version. It’s a culture thing alright. It’s stale culture that starts at the top and needs to change or they are in a perpetual winter as a franchise.

Nothing like a bichfest 2 games into the season against the best roster in the league. Let me point out there have been no errors so that’s encouraging. We obviously need to get the offense going. Scoring runs takes pressure off the pitching. And I’m wondering what level of baseball I need to have played to understand game strategy? Maybe they have no intentions of pitching Gallegos 2 days in a row so he goes 2 innings? Ask Ollie.

It’s not a bitchfest. It’s reality as that team is the measuring stick. Literally nothing has changed and it might actually be worse this year. You’re hired staff “ace” is already on the shelf. The clowns extended Marmol when it could have been an easy out by June and trust this much they are already out. So no it’s not two games in to this mess. It’s been a slow burn over a few seasons now.

Its obvious the Cardinals are not on the same level as the Dodgers and that is the problem. The Dodgers are what the Cards used to be. If you’re fine with that then all be means give Dewit your wallet.
