I get your point that they were exposed regarding CF depth. Can’t argue with that. On the other hand, losing all three CFs at once due to injury is an unexpected blow. Any organization would have a dropoff having to play their 4th-best player at the position.
But that isn’t Scott’s fault. I see some mixing up the two issues. You are critical of the pipeline. I am trying to temper expectations of a player who I feel is not yet ready for MLB.
It will be interesting to see what they do if Noot can return next week. If Scott is still struggling, I would be tempted to keep Donovan in left, put Lars in CF and send Scott down.
March 30, 2024 at 9:22 am #245540Albert, I agree we have seen enough of Burleson to know what we very likely have. Probably a bench player until he is out of options and then a 4A type.
Some think he may become a good enough hitter to stick, but he will have to do it before he is out options, because his defensive limitation means he will stop getting chances at that time. So far he is a singles hitter with some gap power who hits for a low average and low OBP. That is not promising and his clock is ticking.
March 30, 2024 at 9:34 am #245541Brian what are the circumstances that would result in Scott not burning an option year? I am never able to remember how that works.
Yeah, I have been wondering about what happens when Noot is ready. I am not fully prepared to accept that broken bones heal in less than 6 weeks, but maybe ribs heal faster.

The option year is burned after just 20 days in the minors. Now that he is on the roster, it will almost certainly be used in 2024.
March 30, 2024 at 11:06 am #245553Disappointed in Burleson’s poor start to the season. But he’s not alone. Good to see some Winn offensive success.
March 30, 2024 at 12:33 pm #245556Since this topic is about Alec Burleson’s potential, it’s not useful to compare him to others. No one else is the 2024 St. Louis Cardinals DH. He has had an abysmal 2 games. Which doesn’t matter if he improves.
But, as previously pointed it, this mirrors his previous 2 years as an MLB hitter. Low batting average, poor power, hapless against LHP. Hopefully Cards get some useful bats back off the IL ASAP! Until then, let’s hope he can have something good to talk about.
March 30, 2024 at 12:37 pm #245557I feel it’s fair to mention that the team, collectively, is off to a slow start offensively. Why nitpick?
March 30, 2024 at 12:53 pm #245559Sensitive much? Let’s quit whining and talk baseball!
March 30, 2024 at 1:22 pm #245564In reality, a few ABs against two real good pitchers does not constitute a slow start. Gotta give it time. We are 1/81st into the season. It’s about like saying, “Our promising running back has 5 carries for 8 yards; with his slow start maybe he is not going to be any good after all.”
March 30, 2024 at 1:30 pm #245565bicyclemike, that’s sound reasoning. Some posters are quick to criticize Burleson. He’s kind of of the current Cardinals “whipping boy”. I’m disappointed in the team’s collective slow start. But I’m excited about their potential. Go Cardinals !
March 30, 2024 at 1:53 pm #245569Shady trolled ~ “I feel it’s fair to mention that the team, collectively, is off to a slow start offensively. Why nitpick?”
you spent 14 of 16 pages over-hyping Burleson, ignoring his issues and lack of MLB production. You have to take the criticism with how you trolled in this OP. A real man would take it. Own it.

ParticipantI agree with bicyclemike’s point about SSS, of course–it should go without saying. But Shady, you’ve made multiple posts in this thread about the alleged significance of Burleson’s ST batting average, based on as few as 30 ABs. You can’t have it both ways.
March 30, 2024 at 2:01 pm #245571t8ball12, when did you become the moderator for this message board? By the way, you are under no obligation to respond if you are not content with the thread.
March 30, 2024 at 2:02 pm #245572RBK, patience is a virtue. Give it a try. Sheesh ! Burleson’s a Cardinals “whipping boy”, I get it. But give it some time.
March 30, 2024 at 2:05 pm #245573ok .
March 30, 2024 at 2:11 pm #245575I don’t think Burleson is the “Whipping Boy”

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to mischaracterize what he’s been doing. What would you call it, so I can properly fit in here? It’s not baseball talk. What is it? He does a lot of “Taunting”, and UConn specifically said that’s a no-no. Swooped in here and made show of it.
March 30, 2024 at 3:26 pm #245587t8ball12, I am not going to play your games. You are not a victim. What other posters do is not your business. You want to moderate and complain about the moderators.
It is crystal clear that you and Shady have past problems. You spend more time complaining at and about him than talking baseball. Accusing him of trolling and then telling him to be “a real man” is the last straw.
I don’t believe you are sorry and are trying to fit in, as you have been warned multiple times and still, it continues. So you have given me no choice.

March 30, 2024 at 5:20 pm #245624Wow, Burleson back in the lineup tonight. And against a tough lefty. And playing RF. This is totally unexpected. Even for an avid Burleson supporter like me.
March 30, 2024 at 5:40 pm #245628Clarification Mr. Shady, Yamamoto is a right handed pitcher…..per Baseball Reference and MLB.com.
March 30, 2024 at 5:47 pm #245630With an ERA of 45.0. He is expensive, but had a bad spring and a terrible 1 inning outing vs the Padres.
March 30, 2024 at 5:48 pm #245631RBK
ParticipantRBK, patience is a virtue. Give it a try. Sheesh !
Well, that has absolutely nothing to do with the point I made above and is completely inapposite, but I wholeheartedly agree. I wish some people would remember that quote when they constantly and repetitively lobby for premature promotions of every shiny new object in the Cardinals’ farm system.
March 30, 2024 at 5:52 pm #245632BOCfan, you are correct. My bad. Thanks for the clarification. Maybe Burleson in the lineup then isn’t that unexpected, after all. But playing RF kind of is.
March 30, 2024 at 5:56 pm #245633Agreed. Hope Walker is ok.
