Great movie! Durante literally kicks the bucket as he utters his last words.
Did not see the game but watched the condensed versions this morning. That fog looked really intense for awhile. You could read the players lips saying, “We can’t see.”
But in the end we saw a shutout. Can we bring the brooms today? Tough to do, but it’s been done.
July 4, 2026 at 5:14 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #86 thread – Saturday, July 4 at Chicago Cubs #311881We just arrived at the pool party. Din-din is ribeye steaks, potato salad, and we brought a fresh made orzo salad, with both soft drinks and adult beverages. I am going to stick to the soft stuff tonight.
There will be other items and desserts but not everyone is here yet. Will follow the game on my phone.
July 4, 2026 at 7:48 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311838That is some stat about the +\- 15 run differential. 132 years since it last happened, and a first in the so called modern era (1901 to present). Now that is a true rarity.
July 4, 2026 at 7:45 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311837Great win alright, but it not counts as one. The offense has hit double figures twice in a row. Will be interesting to see if this uptick in offense continues, not double figures every game but a more consistent run production.
On the philosophical side, yep we are only here for a short while. My philosophy is to live such that the world is a little bit better place for you having been in it.
July 3, 2026 at 5:43 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311807This game is down right offensive, for both clubs!!
Oops, see I was on the wrong thread with those last few. Man, having a tough Friday on the postings! 🙃

July 3, 2026 at 5:33 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311801Sheesh – whenever I am at the gym and hit “submit”, nothing happens. So I wait to make sure and hit “submit” again. From now on I will only hit it once and if it does not update so be it.
Sorry gang.
July 3, 2026 at 5:28 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311799At the gym and checking in. 16-0! Holy cow! Wish we could store some of those up for the next two. You always wonder if the series will be a “1960 World Series” affair where we lose the next two 4-3 and 2-0.
Perish the thought!

Alright, hoping this lead is safe, 11-0 now, and gonna hit the gym for a workout before the big weekend.
Burly a big hit off the lefty after three straight BBs. 8-0 Redbirds.
Church and Wetherholt with solid contact against the lefty but both were “at ‘em” balls.
Yeah, still plenty of time for him.
July 3, 2026 at 4:20 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311761Pallante has kept them off the board but the pitch count is high. Almost 60 pitches to get nine outs.
July 3, 2026 at 4:14 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311760This ump has missed a few including what looked like were off but not challenged. He’s also not real quick on some calls.
July 3, 2026 at 4:09 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311758Like the way Winn went with the outside pitch. I tell ya, Fermin is a pretty good player. Puts the ball in play a lot. I would play him at third against righties.
Speaking of which, is Gorman doing anything at AAA? Haven’t heard anything about him since the demotion.
July 3, 2026 at 3:49 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311752Church has been answering a lot of prayers of late with some heavenly bolts to the bleachers.
July 3, 2026 at 3:35 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311749Ah, the 200th. I remember it as well as I was a youthful lad into the “sowing my wild oats” time. Me and some buddies went out to the reservoir near our area in central Wyoming, consuming mass quantiles of beer and snacks and hanging out with other guys and gals from the old hometown.
Me and this girl were kind of goofing around on a pier and she bumped me into the water. I wore contact lenses back in those days and despite the libations had the good sense to close my eyes as I went in the water, not losing my contacts.
Man, those were fun times, but glad I got out of that lifestyle in due time and got serious about the future and got back in to college.
No score after one.
July 3, 2026 at 1:11 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311731Can’t get too much more Americana than Cards-Cubs over July 4th weekend. Even the uni’s will be red, white and blue.
We are having the exact same din-din tomorrow as Rats today – ribeye steaks on the grill. It is courtesy of my step-daughter who is putting together the festivities at her townhouse pool area. All we need to bring are a side dish or dessert, and our swim suits. 😁⛱️
Crooks has had a couple of trials and has not done much. This year Marmol has given him some regular time but he has not taken charge.
I wonder if he will end up being a lot like Carson Kelly – a good player, but not a top tier receiver.

July 2, 2026 at 10:31 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #84 thread – Thursday, July 2 at Atlanta Braves #311631With last night’s game a clunker I did not bother to watch the condensed version this morning while having my healthy breakfast.
Working today’s Rockies-Marlins tilt, which is an afternoon affair so should be able to take in our game live. 8 1/2 back now and fading even from second in the division. We look more and more like a club that is mostly laying for a better future than going for a post season berth.
