Church and Wetherholt with solid contact against the lefty but both were “at ‘em” balls.
Yeah, still plenty of time for him.

July 3, 2026 at 4:14 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311760This ump has missed a few including what looked like were off but not challenged. He’s also not real quick on some calls.
July 3, 2026 at 4:09 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311758Like the way Winn went with the outside pitch. I tell ya, Fermin is a pretty good player. Puts the ball in play a lot. I would play him at third against righties.
Speaking of which, is Gorman doing anything at AAA? Haven’t heard anything about him since the demotion.
July 3, 2026 at 3:49 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311752Church has been answering a lot of prayers of late with some heavenly bolts to the bleachers.
July 3, 2026 at 3:35 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311749Ah, the 200th. I remember it as well as I was a youthful lad into the “sowing my wild oats” time. Me and some buddies went out to the reservoir near our area in central Wyoming, consuming mass quantiles of beer and snacks and hanging out with other guys and gals from the old hometown.
Me and this girl were kind of goofing around on a pier and she bumped me into the water. I wore contact lenses back in those days and despite the libations had the good sense to close my eyes as I went in the water, not losing my contacts.
Man, those were fun times, but glad I got out of that lifestyle in due time and got serious about the future and got back in to college.
No score after one.
July 3, 2026 at 1:11 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #85 thread – Friday, July 3 at Chicago Cubs #311731Can’t get too much more Americana than Cards-Cubs over July 4th weekend. Even the uni’s will be red, white and blue.
We are having the exact same din-din tomorrow as Rats today – ribeye steaks on the grill. It is courtesy of my step-daughter who is putting together the festivities at her townhouse pool area. All we need to bring are a side dish or dessert, and our swim suits. 😁⛱️
Crooks has had a couple of trials and has not done much. This year Marmol has given him some regular time but he has not taken charge.
I wonder if he will end up being a lot like Carson Kelly – a good player, but not a top tier receiver.

July 2, 2026 at 10:31 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #84 thread – Thursday, July 2 at Atlanta Braves #311631With last night’s game a clunker I did not bother to watch the condensed version this morning while having my healthy breakfast.
Working today’s Rockies-Marlins tilt, which is an afternoon affair so should be able to take in our game live. 8 1/2 back now and fading even from second in the division. We look more and more like a club that is mostly laying for a better future than going for a post season berth.
July 1, 2026 at 11:34 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #83 thread – Wednesday, July 1 at Atlanta Braves #311599Having the not-so-late night bowl of Raisin Bran and checking the box of our game. McGreevy again not getting any run support.
The Rox-Marlins game was played in 2:09, so I got home earlier than usual.
I see The Blazer made a couple of errors. With that and a .603 OPS he’s not exactly taking the third base job by storm.
July 1, 2026 at 5:07 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #83 thread – Wednesday, July 1 at Atlanta Braves #311580We have been kind of lucky as our run differential is negative, yet we have consistently stayed above .500. The Red Stockings are similar to us on run differential and are 9 games under break even. But then the Guardians and Rangers are also similar and both a bit over .500. If our bullpen can continue to be effective I think we can stay at least around .500, but realistically we need to start scoring more than we give up if we expect to hang with the big boys.
July 1, 2026 at 4:30 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #83 thread – Wednesday, July 1 at Atlanta Braves #311574Cubs are getting hot again and might put us essentially out of any realistic division title hopes this weekend, if we aren’t already, and dampen our wild card aspirations.
July 1, 2026 at 4:06 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #83 thread – Wednesday, July 1 at Atlanta Braves #311571Hoolie gave us solid second base play for a decade. My favorite Cardinal yearbook is the 1964 one with our All Star infield on the cover.
Working tonight’s Rockies game August those red hot Marlins. Those ‘Lins had the best record in MLB in June.
No din-din tonight; have my game snack ready of an apple, grapes and a granola bar. Will have the usual late night bowl of Raisin Bran when I get home.
June 30, 2026 at 8:23 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #82 thread – Tuesday, June 30 at Atlanta Braves #311512‘67 was magical. I have the highlight record and as a kid listened to that so many times I could pretty much recite it.
June 30, 2026 at 8:11 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #82 thread – Tuesday, June 30 at Atlanta Braves #311509I like the review. Wish we had it in 1985.
June 30, 2026 at 8:09 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #82 thread – Tuesday, June 30 at Atlanta Braves #311508JJ looked unusually confused against Dodd. Never swung the bat – he seemed to not pick up the ball.

Yeah, you wonder if Albert ends up taking the reigns in Orange County.
I was in our local Lowe’s yesterday and a guy had an old school Angels hat on – it was the original style with the interlocking “LA”, two tone with the halo on top. I told the guy I think that is still their best cap design and they should go back to those.

June 30, 2026 at 7:10 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #82 thread – Tuesday, June 30 at Atlanta Braves #311495Velazquez really hammered that one Harris just turned and looked.
June 30, 2026 at 7:01 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #82 thread – Tuesday, June 30 at Atlanta Braves #311491Libby did indeed look impressive in escaping that second inning jam. His issue as we all know is not going deep into games. Inconsistency.
I worked a couple of Braves game early when they played out here. Was outside the visitors clubhouse and saw them in the tunnel. I tell you, Ozzie Albies is really built. He looks like a short running back seeing him in shorts and a t-shirt.
Din-din here was leftovers. A chicken and vegetable mix along with a big tossed salad that included avocado and salmon.

June 30, 2026 at 6:46 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #82 thread – Tuesday, June 30 at Atlanta Braves #311489There has to be some correctable mechanical flaw in Libby’s delivery with all those pitches up and away to righties. Seems like that can be fixed.
June 30, 2026 at 6:38 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #82 thread – Tuesday, June 30 at Atlanta Braves #311486Those Braves uni’s are a great look. As a kid collecting cards I loved those Milwaukee Braves uni’s with the tomahawk. They were my second favorite behind our classic birds on bat.
Then the Braves watered them down taking off the tomahawk, and eventually went through a lot of changes before going back to the classic style.
June 30, 2026 at 5:18 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #82 thread – Tuesday, June 30 at Atlanta Braves #311480Yeah, Harry was one of a kind. Never heard him on Hawks broadcasts. In Casper, WY as a kid in the ‘60s I could get San Francisco Warriors game with Bill King and Hank Greenwald.
Harry should be in the Cardinals Hall of Fame. Why he is not puzzles me. He was Cardinal baseball to millions of midwestern, western and southern fans for 25 years.
